Chapter 54

Chapter 35 Part 2

Enduring everyone's peculiar stares, Bo He gave a wry smile. “CEO Wei, please stop joking with me!”

Wei Feizhou laughed heartily. “How is it a joke? I’m being completely sincere. After we parted ways on the island, you never contacted me, so here I am, paying a personal visit. Talent is easy to come by, but talent with excellent character is hard to find. If young CEO Qin doesn't cherish you, I certainly will.”

The aforementioned “young CEO Qin” finally spoke up. “CEO Wei, poaching my employee right in front of my face... isn't that a bit much?”

Wei Feizhou replied, perfectly justified, “Poaching your employee behind your back would be in bad taste. This is called being open and aboveboard. Xiao Bo, give it some serious thought. I gave you my work number last time. Contact me anytime you have a thought.”

Without waiting for Bo He's reply, he waved his hand and made a dashing exit.

Once Qin Chuan and Wei Feizhou were out of earshot, Tang Mi joked, “Bo He, when you make it big, don’t forget to give us a leg up!”

Shi Yu also chimed in with a laugh, “That’s right. Even CEO Wei thinks so highly of you, to say nothing of CEO Qin.”

Bo He grinned, picking up a stack of documents. “Sisters, have you forgotten? I’m not even part of the President's Office. I just passed my probation not long ago and I’m only a temp on loan. CEO Wei is just being friendly and making a joke, so please don't tease me. I can’t talk, I just got a notice that I have to go back to the Sales Department for a meeting. I’m off, see you later!”

She didn't give the two another chance to probe or joke, slipping away in a flash.

Meanwhile, Qin Chuan was seeing Wei Feizhou out. The two stepped out of the elevator and walked toward the building’s main entrance.

“So, how about that? My assist was pretty good, wasn't it?” Wei Feizhou said smugly.

Qin Chuan: “...I don’t quite understand what you mean.”

Wei Feizhou: “Don’t wait until she actually leaves for another company or gets a boyfriend to be filled with regret.”

Qin Chuan suddenly asked, “CEO Wei, do you happen to have a part-time job on the side?”

Wei Feizhou was baffled. “What part-time job?”

Qin Chuan: “Matchmaking.”

Wei Feizhou brushed it off. “I’m just a naturally warm-hearted person. When I see someone in trouble, I have to lend a helping hand. No need to look so grateful. You’ll thank me for this one day.”

A car slowly pulled up, stopping right at the entrance.

Wei Feizhou swung a long leg in, already halfway into the back seat.

Qin Chuan couldn't help but call out, “CEO Wei!”

Wei Feizhou turned back.

Qin Chuan: “Back when you were pursuing your wife, what did you do to win her over? Don't get me wrong, I’m just curious about that story you never finished.”

Wei Feizhou gave a faint, wry smile. “Nothing more than a single line.”

He beckoned to Qin Chuan.

After a moment's hesitation, Qin Chuan leaned in.

Wei Feizhou whispered, “Figure it out yourself.”

Qin Chuan: ...

Wei Feizhou let out a hearty laugh and shut the car door.

Watching the car speed away, Qin Chuan turned to Guan Shen in disbelief. “Is that old geezer really in his forties and not four?”

Guan Shen was speechless.

On the way back to his office, Qin Chuan could have taken a more direct route, but he deliberately followed Guan Shen to the President's Office instead.

Guan Shen was confused. “If you need any documents, sir, I can bring them over to you right away.”

Qin Chuan said with a straight face, “Those books recommended by the instructor at the last internal training—didn't you say you had them? I’ll come get them myself. No need for you to make a special trip.”

What could Guan Shen say to that? With his boss having spoken, he could only lead the way.

Although the President's Office and Qin Chuan's office were next to each other, the elevator exits for each were on different sides. Because the building had an atrium design, their paths normally didn't cross. Unless absolutely necessary, Qin Chuan rarely made a special trip to the President's Office.

But over the past few days, the number of times he had graced them with his presence was already far greater than usual.

Bo He wasn't there.

Qin Chuan swept his gaze across the room and quickly noticed that her desk was empty.

He deliberately lingered at Guan Shen's desk for a while, flipping through a few pages of a book, but still didn't see her return.

The question was on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't bring himself to ask.

That would be too obvious, he thought to himself as he picked up the book and rose to leave.

Tang Mi, Shi Yu, and the others all sat primly at their desks, facing their computers without turning their heads, but in reality, they were using every fiber of their being to track their boss's movements.

But the one person Qin Chuan most wanted to see had yet to appear.

Just as Qin Chuan was leaving the President's Office, Guan Shen quickly muttered something.

“Bo He went to the Sales Department for a meeting.”

Qin Chuan looked at him.

Guan Shen returned his gaze with an innocent look.

Qin Chuan: “What did you just say?”

Guan Shen looked baffled. “Nothing. I didn’t say anything.”

Qin Chuan pursed his lips and turned to leave.

He pretended not to notice the fleeting sense of disappointment that flickered in his heart.

In the days that followed, Bo He came to work and went home, and Qin Chuan did the same. But with their different positions and responsibilities, their paths rarely crossed on a typical day.

Even when there were meetings in the President's Office or the Sales Department, Qin Chuan couldn't find the time to sit in, even if he wanted to.

Until he was met with his umpteenth night of working overtime, a regular occurrence for him.
