Chapter 44 - Work

Although Chu Sui was used to being the center of attention, being stared at intently by a group of Military Females with explosive combat power in a confined space would put pressure on anyone. Arno didn't seem to know how to explain either, his hands behind his back quietly clenching, revealing a trace of imperceptible helplessness.

How should he explain it?

Say that his Male Master was bored and wanted to come to the Military Department to play?

Arno felt that this reason was a bit too far-fetched. Just as he was about to say something, a Military Female not far away was the first to react, breaking the delicate atmosphere: "Major General Arno, this is...?"

In fact, the more sharp-eyed ones could mostly recognize who Chu Sui was. After all, the matter had caused a huge stir on the StarNet, and with such an outstanding appearance, he was basically unforgettable. But they still had to follow the rules and ask.

Hearing this, Arno turned slightly to the side, revealing Chu Sui behind him, and said carefully, "This is my Male Master. He came today because..."

Before Arno could come up with a reliable reason, Chu Sui took the lead and spouted some nonsense, "Er... I mainly came today to drop Arno off at work and to take a look at his workplace. Please, carry on with your work, I won't disturb you."

In this place full of Military Females, Chu Sui smiled very gently. After speaking, he patted Arno's shoulder, "You go on in to work. I'll be heading back first."

Without waiting for their reaction, he slipped away as fast as he could. The pressure from more than ten A-rank and above Military Females was no joke. Coupled with their battle-hardened experience and aura of slaughter, Chu Sui could barely breathe while he was in there.

Little did he know, the Military Females present fell into a delicate silence again because of his fabricated reason. Fedi looked at Arno and stammered, "Ma... Major General... I didn't mishear, did I... Your Male Master dropped you off at work?"

Zerg God above, he swore that when he went to the main residence to look for the Major General before, he had seen bloodstains on Arno's shirt more than once. Would that Male Zerg be so kind?

A Male Zerg dropping a Female Zerg off at work was simply unbelievable!

Arno obviously hadn't expected Chu Sui to say that. After a moment of stunned silence, he realized it was clearly just a random excuse the Male Zerg made up. For a moment, he didn't know if he felt disappointed or something else. Facing the envious, jealous, and hateful gazes of his colleagues, he forced a smile, "Everyone, please don't misunderstand. My Male Master was just curious about the Military Department, so he came along to have a look today..."

Some Zerg were skeptical, while others teased, "Oh, come on. Who doesn't know that His Excellency Chu Sui got into a fight with the young master of the Capet family for you? Maybe he just wanted to drop you off at work, so he used looking around the Military Department as an excuse. What's there to see in our little plot of land?"

The envy and sighs in their words couldn't be hidden.

It was hard to find a Male Master these days, and even harder to find a good one. Nowadays, apart from Male Zergs of commoner origin who might have a gentler personality, the others were simply torturous enough to kill a Zerg without paying for it.

Arno didn't know how to explain to them, so he simply didn't. Maintaining his usual silence, he walked into his office. He took off his military jacket, draped it over the chair, and sat down at his desk. His thoughts slowly gathered after a moment, and then he turned on his Light Computer to start working.

After leaving the office, Chu Sui didn't leave. Instead, he randomly chose a few floors and wandered around. The System had told him to either go into business or join the military as a civilian employee. Chu Sui now felt that neither was suitable for him.

As for business, he had tried it before in the human world, but ended up losing several million. As for developing in the Military Department, after seeing those ferocious Military Females just now, Chu Sui really couldn't adapt.

So he took the Light Elevator straight to the first floor, ready to slip away. The System saw this and stopped him: [Go back.]

Chu Sui found it as annoying as a fly: "Go back? I'm not going back. It's full of fierce Military Females everywhere. What's so fun about it?"

The System hated that it didn't have legs, or else it would have kicked him to death: [Go back and find a job.]

Chu Sui lied with his eyes wide open: "I've looked. I couldn't find one. You can't possibly want me to enlist, right?"

The System still had eyes: [Go to the front desk and look. The light screen there has job postings.]

After it spoke, a circle of purple electricity suddenly appeared around its body, crackling. Chu Sui was inexplicably reminded of the day he was zapped by the System so badly he couldn't even recognize his own mother. His Adam's apple bobbed, and he unconsciously took a step back. "You, you, you... don't do anything reckless!"

The System said only one word: [Go.]

'Fine, I'll go. What's with the attitude?' Chu Sui thought. He frowned and reluctantly dawdled to the front desk. Sure enough, he found job postings on the light screen. There were quite a few types, like records clerk, data entry clerk—all very ordinary positions.

Chu Sui watched quietly for a moment, then turned to leave again. The System blocked him: [Why are you leaving?]

Chu Sui said, "I've looked. There are no positions here that can change my destiny."

System: [...]

The System was choked for a moment, then recovered and continued to coax him: [How would you know if you don't try? Maybe you'll soar to the heavens. Just like in your human world, Zhu Yuanzhang was once a beggar, but didn't he end up becoming emperor?]

Chu Sui was still reluctant: "My Male Monarch is a Major General upstairs, and I'm a clerk downstairs. How embarrassing would that be if word got out? No way, no way."

The System corrected him: [There's no shame in supporting yourself. It's shameful to rely on others. Everyone starts from the bottom. Do you expect to become a councilor the moment you walk in?]

That was impossible.

Throughout The Empire, those in high positions were all Females. Unlike the superficial, empty nobility of the Male Zergs, they held real power. In a sense, Male Zergs were like canaries kept in a cage. Apart from enjoying life, eating and drinking, they didn't have to worry about anything. But correspondingly, they were also excluded from the center of power.

Although Male Zergs had privileges, the Military Department was definitely not one of them. Military power was the foundation of a country. If Male Zergs were allowed to act recklessly, the entire country would basically be finished. So there were no shortcuts. This was also why some noble Male Zergs married Military Females—not just for contribution points, but also for the Military Department's resources and connections.

Under the System's increasing brainwashing, Chu Sui finally felt a meager sense of crisis. Hearing this, he pouted and slowly moved to the front desk. But he still felt embarrassed, hiding the lower half of his face with his collar and asking the receptionist in a low voice, "Which office is it for the clerk position?"

The receptionist was busy entering data at a Light Computer. Without even looking up, he casually pulled out a form and gave it to him. "32nd floor, Area C, Room 3207. All the applicants are waiting there. Just fill out this resume and hand it to Group Leader Morei."

There was a pen holder nearby. Chu Sui casually pulled one out, then found a random spot to fill out the form. The Zerg race's script was different from Earth's. In his previous life, Chu Sui had managed to recognize about seventy to eighty percent of it, so he could still write most of the characters.

He filled in the basic information, only to find sections for work experience, education, and professional certifications and other such messy things. With a flourish of his pen, he filled them all with "None." The System's eyelids twitched as it watched. If this were on Earth, only a company that had lost its mind would hire him.

But Chu Sui felt pretty good about himself. After finishing the resume, he tossed the pen back and went straight to office 3207. The Military Department offered generous benefits, so it was obviously a cushy job. Countless Female Zergs had come to apply, forming a long line at the door.

'Embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing. The great young master of the Chu Family was actually here to compete with others for a shabby little clerk position.'

Chu Sui pouted. Not wanting to be recognized, he silently pulled up his collar, covering the lower half of his face, and stood at the end of the line. The Female Zergs in front of him entered the office one by one, probably for an interview, but they came out again not long after.

Group Leader Morei was the interviewer. Because he was busy with his duties, he had to multitask. He quickly glanced at the resumes his assistant had collected, questioning the applicants while looking down and rapidly writing up information.

When Chu Sui came in, Morei was still writing furiously. Without even looking at him, he asked as a matter of routine, "What position are you applying for?"

Chu Sui sat down in the chair in front of him, thought for a moment, and said, "Clerk, I guess."

His tone sounded a bit forced and reluctant.

Morei's impression of him immediately took a slight hit. He organized the messy documents on his desk, the papers making a soft rustling sound. "Which university in The Empire did you graduate from? Do you have any prior work experience?"

Chu Sui was just an uneducated little rascal. "Never went to school, no work experience."

Group Leader Morei's movements paused at his words. 'Daring to apply without even going to school, is he here to cause trouble? Causing trouble at the Military Department, he must be tired of living.' This old Female Zerg who had retired from the battlefield still had a fiery temper. He tapped the documents in his hand on the table, about to get angry. However, when he saw Chu Sui's appearance clearly, his eyes widened and his brows furrowed, "Hmm?! A Male Zerg?!"

What the hell, a Male Zerg actually came to apply for a job.

Group Leader Morei was old. Seeing Chu Sui, he didn't swoon like those Female Zergs. On the contrary, his brow was furrowed so tightly he could probably kill a fly with it, which reminded Chu Sui of his annoying high school homeroom teacher. He unconsciously sat up straight.

Morei asked, "What's your name?"

Chu Sui rubbed his nose and answered honestly, "Chu Sui."

Group Leader Morei adjusted the glasses on his nose and finally found Chu Sui's resume from the pile. Other than basic information like name and age, the rest was practically blank. "Your Excellency is a Male Zerg. Why are you applying to be a clerk?"

'Right, I'm a Male Zerg. Why am I applying to be a clerk?'

Chu Sui also felt he was crazy. It would be so much better to stay at home, eating, drinking, and enjoying a life of leisure. But forced by the System's tyranny, he could only continue to spin lies. "I'm quite interested in this job."

This reason was so far-fetched that even Morei found it fake. He glanced at Chu Sui several times. "But the Military Department's affairs are busy, especially for clerks. They often have to go to different departments to enter data, have one day off every eight days, and the salary isn't high. I'm afraid Your Excellency won't be able to handle it."

This was a tactful rejection in disguise, just short of telling him to go home.

Chu Sui's scalp went numb when he heard about one day off every eight days. He said insincerely, "It's fine."

He was a Male Zerg after all, so Morei still gave him some face. Seeing no other applicants behind Chu Sui, he patiently asked a few questions. "Does Your Excellency have a Male Monarch at home?"

Chu Sui had guessed he would ask this. "Yes."

Morei saw that his rank on the resume was A-rank and continued to ask, "How many Female Attendants?"

Chu Sui: "None."

Sub-Females were effeminate, Military Females were ferocious. In this world full of men, Chu Sui had already given up on the idea of picking up girls.

Morei seemed to get a little interested upon hearing this. After all, Male Zergs who actively went out to find work were quite rare, and Chu Sui's temper didn't seem bad. Although he himself had no ideas, there were plenty of single Military Females in his department.

He was a Male Zerg after all. It was just a small position, so giving him some privileges didn't matter. But he couldn't make a decision too quickly either. Morei was also afraid of inviting a granddaddy back. "In that case, there's a three-day probationary period. Can Your Excellency accept that?"

Chu Sui nodded. "I can."

Hearing this, Morei pulled a contract form from a drawer. The contents were all prepared in advance. He signed his name, stamped it, and handed it to Chu Sui. "Your Excellency can take a look at the salary and benefits. If you have no questions, sign in the name field below. Report here at eight tomorrow morning. This is your ID card."

The Military Department was strictly managed. Without an ID card, you basically couldn't get in.

Chu Sui didn't really look at the contract. It wasn't like he'd be able to make heads or tails of it anyway. He signed his name on the last page. In all his years among the Zerg Race, there was one thing he hadn't lost—his neat handwriting, with powerful and graceful strokes, was very good.

His maternal grandfather had forced him to practice at a desk when he was a child.

Morei took it and glanced at it, secretly satisfied. The clerk job didn't require much technical skill; being able to operate a Light Computer and print documents was enough. But if one could write well, that was even better, of course.

Morei stood up. "I'll see Your Excellency out."

Chu Sui wouldn't go so far as to have an elderly person see him out. "No need, I can see myself out."

After speaking, he walked out of the office, looked at the short-term employment form in his hand, and found it quite novel. He said to the System, "Are you satisfied now?"

The System's body floated above his left shoulder as it advised: [There's no harm in coming out to see the world. Since you have a job now, you have to be serious and responsible. Don't put on airs with your colleagues.]

Chu Sui seemed to understand this world, but in reality, he knew nothing. A person couldn't stay in one place for too long. Over time, their spirit would be worn down. The System couldn't predict Chu Sui's future, nor was it 100% confident it could save him. It just felt that Chu Sui should come out, walk around, and see this world with his own eyes.

It clearly had technology far surpassing the human world, yet it had the most backward civilization and system. Whether in his past life or this one, Chu Sui had never truly experienced the twisted nature of this society, because he was a Male Zerg, and all benefits went to him.

Sometimes, nagging ten thousand great principles in his ear was useless. It was better to let him see it for himself.

After Chu Sui left, Group Leader Morei's assistant slipped into the office with a whoosh, chattering at him with great enthusiasm, "Group Leader, Group Leader, did you see that? It's a Male Zerg! A Male Zerg!"

Morei couldn't stand the sight of them swooning. "So what if he's a Male Zerg? Hurry up and get back to work."

The assistant stammered, "Then... did you approve his application?"

Morei was unmoved by his burning gaze and said in an emotionless tone, "So what if he's a Male Zerg? If he's arrogant, rude, and naturally cruel, would you still dare to get close to him?"

The assistant paused, the small flame in his heart instantly extinguished. "Er... I'll get back to work, Group Leader."

Arno deliberately finished his official duties early today and returned home a little earlier than usual. When he pushed the door open, he saw Chu Sui sitting on the sofa in the living room on the first floor. He strode over and knelt by his legs as usual. "Male Master."

Chu Sui was still thinking about work tomorrow, unable to tell if he was nervous or just found it novel. Hearing Arno, he came back to his senses and grunted in acknowledgment. "Get up."

He rarely made Arno kneel recently, nor had he laid a hand on him. He didn't know if that counted as progress.

Arno got up from the floor. Just as he was about to ask Chu Sui what he wanted for dinner so he could prepare it, his eyes inadvertently glanced at an employment document on the sofa, stamped with the Military Department's seal and brightly signed with Chu Sui's name.

Arno was a little surprised and looked at Chu Sui hesitantly. "Are you going to work at the Military Department?"

Chu Sui subconsciously looked at him, only then realizing he had casually tossed the employment document on the sofa today and hadn't put it away. He felt utterly embarrassed, rustled the paper behind his back, and said in a fierce tone, "Who... who let you look at my things!"

In the past, whenever his attitude was even slightly bad, Arno would immediately kneel on the ground and ask for punishment. He wouldn't complain even if he was whipped until he was covered in blood. But today, there was no reaction. Instead, he gave Chu Sui a strange look.

Chu Sui didn't know that right now, he was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. His eyes were wide, his pupils dark and bright, the tips of his ears flushed red. Although his tone was fierce, it held no deterrent force.

Arno could already vaguely grasp a bit of Chu Sui's simple personality. He knelt before him again, his movements unhurried, with a kind of methodical elegance. "I'm sorry. I looked at your things without permission. Please punish me."

His attitude of admitting his mistake was sincere.

Chu Sui glanced behind him to make sure he hadn't crumpled the document, then relaxed a little. He sat back down on the sofa, feeling so embarrassed he could die, and just wanted to send Arno away quickly. "I'm hungry, go make dinner."

When Arno wasn't home, the housekeeping robot cooked, but it wasn't as delicious as the food Arno made himself.

Arno lowered his eyes to look at the time. His long, thick eyelashes cast a shadow on his pale white skin, like the trembling wings of a butterfly. He reminded him, "But you usually dine at eight. It's only five now."

Chu Sui wasn't hungry indeed. He wouldn't be able to eat even if the food was made now. "Then go get busy with your work."

Arno glanced at him. "My military duties have already been handled at the Military Department."

Chu Sui: "..."

Chu Sui couldn't come up with any more excuses. His fingertips fiddled with his cuffs. For the first time, he felt that this obedient Male Monarch was a bit like a fox. Just as he was pondering how to muddle through this, a pair of long, powerful hands quietly covered his right leg.

Arno straightened up slightly, his eyes lowered. From Chu Sui's angle, he could only see his silver hair and the handsome profile of his side face, but not his clear, cold blue eyes.

His hands rested on Chu Sui's knees, contrasting against the black fabric, translucent like jade, as perfect as a work of art. One couldn't tell at all that they had once been stained with blood on the battlefield. His voice was low. "Male Master, shall I rub your legs for you?"

Chu Sui found it comfortable, so naturally he wouldn't refuse. He tucked the document behind his back and gave a cool grunt of assent.

Arno had a military background, so the pressure he applied was just right. Before long, Chu Sui's whole body relaxed, and he even felt a little drowsy. Arno watched him quietly and said in a soft voice, "Male Master, is it comfortable?"

Chu Sui was about to fall asleep. He forced himself to stay awake and replied with two words, "It's okay..."

Arno asked again, "Are you going to work at the Military Department?"

Chu Sui: "Mhm."

Arno's movements paused slightly at his words, then he asked, "Why?"

Chu Sui: "Because..."

Seeing that Chu Sui was about to blurt out the truth, the System directly rammed its body into his head like a small cannonball: [Shh! Don't expose me!]
