Death Progress Bar

Death Progress Bar

Chapter 12 - Nightfall

After his activities all night and into the morning, Shi Jin unsurprisingly fell asleep on the plane. He thought he could sleep soundly until the plane landed, but halfway through his sweet dream, Xiao Si suddenly shouted.

"What's wrong?" Shi Jin opened his eyes and asked groggily.

Xiao Si's tone was panicked, "Shi Jin, your progress bar suddenly jumped up, it went up by 100 and now it's at 750."

Shi Jin immediately woke up and sat up in shock, "What?!"

He was too excited and blurted out the question. Lian Jun, who was sitting next to him, put down his magazine and turned to ask, "Did you have a nightmare?"

"Um...yes," Shi Jin snapped out of his thoughts and awkwardly smiled at Lian Jun. He stiffly leaned back in his chair, suppressing his emotions and asked himself in his mind, "Why did the progress bar suddenly increase? Could it be that your precious Baby has encountered some other threat that has affected me?"

Xiao Si replied, "No, the progress bar for the Baby is still at 500 and hasn't moved."

Shi Jin frowned and cautiously scanned his surroundings, trying to find the reason for the sudden increase in the progress bar.

As he looked around, he suddenly thought of something - when he first returned to the country, he had speculated that the distance between him and the five brothers of the Shi family was also one of the fatal factors. Later, this speculation was proven to be correct, and B City as the capital of China was home to the residences of the five brothers of the Shi family.

Distance can be deadly.

He turned his head to look at Number Two on the other side of the aisle and asked hopefully, "Little Two, are we almost in B City?"

Number Two grinned and replied, "The plane will land in fifteen minutes. You slept through the entire flight, little piggy Jin Jin."

Shi Jin rolled his eyes and flipped him off before turning his attention inward to contemplate his own guesses. "The progress bar jumped 100 points as we approached B City. Conservatively speaking, at least three of the five Shi brothers are probably in B City right now."

Xiao Si trembled with fear and asked, "What should we do then?"

"What else can we do?" Shi Jin slumped in his chair, glancing at Lian Jun's beautiful profile from the corner of his eye. He sighed, "Of course, we have to stick to this golden thigh and pray that B City is big enough for us to avoid those ruthless brothers."

Xiao Si sobbed, "...wuu."

......

Although the words sounded pessimistic, after the plane landed in B City and everyone settled into a high-end club called "Nightfall," Shi Jin took action and began to collect information about the five brothers of the Shi family through various channels, trying to figure out which ones were hiding in B City.

Among the five brothers in the Shi family, there were three who had transparent information.

The first was the eldest brother, Shi Weichong, a rising star in the business world, whose financial news could be found with just a quick search online.

The second was the second brother, Fei Yujing, a lawyer specializing in economic cases and a big shot in the industry. He never turned down a big case and spent 300 out of 365 days a year away from home. Just by searching for what case he was currently working on, one could easily guess his whereabouts.

The last one was the third brother, Rong Zhouzhong, the king of the entertainment industry with terrifying popularity. His every move was covered in the entertainment news, and by simply visiting one of his fan sites, one could get a detailed itinerary of his next month.

Shi Jin frantically searched, even pretending to be a fan to infiltrate the fan sites of his third brother, and finally, in the early hours of the morning, he confirmed the whereabouts of the three brothers.

The eldest brother Shi Weichong was definitely in B city and would be staying there for a long time because he was planning to integrate the old company's business with Ruihang; second brother Fei Yujing was definitely not there, he was on the other side of the earth fighting a legal battle with a certain economic tycoon and had no time to run around; third brother Rong Zhouzhong may or may not be there, because he had a recent notice that required him to travel back and forth between B city and S city.

After ruling out second brother Fei Yujing, assuming that the remaining two other brothers whose locations were unknown were also in B city, Shi Jin now needed to be careful to avoid encountering any of the four brothers.

"Basically, everyone is here now," Shi Jinfang put down his phone and looked at the progress bar in his mind that was stuck at 750. He let out a long sigh, "Fortunately, we have managed to secure some room for error from other sources, so the situation is not too bad."

"Mm," Xiao Si responded sympathetically, feeling sorry for him. It comforted him, "Jin Jin, don't put too much pressure on yourself. There's no time limit for the progress bar to decrease. Actually, if you feel too tired, it's okay for us to continue like this. We've found the Baby, and things will get better."

Shi Jinfang's eyes softened as he said, "But if the progress bar doesn't decrease, you will continue to suffer, being bound by me and your abilities being restricted, right?"

Xiao Si remained silent.

"Silly thing," sighed Shi Jin with a smile, placing his hand behind his head. "I don't want to hear you cry in my head for the rest of my life, that would be too noisy."

Xiao Si's eyes welled up with tears and said pitifully, "Jin Jin..."

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore," Shi Jin comforted, his tone becoming serious. "Xiao Si, I don't want to keep living in fear, hiding and constantly worrying about my life. The second chance you've given me is too precious to waste. Besides, I have a feeling that the original owner's death was suspicious.

"Even if the five older brothers disliked their youngest brother, they could have tortured him slowly without dirtying their own hands. Killing someone is a serious crime, and if caught, it could ruin their lives. It's not worth the risk.

"Also, don't forget what I did in my past life. Now, there's a murder case in front of me, and if I don't solve it, I won't be able to sleep soundly for the rest of my life."

Xiao Si was deeply moved. "Jin Jin... wuu... wuuu..."

Shi Jin was taken aback, then burst out laughing. "Xiao Si, you're not crying because you're stuck on a game, are you?"

Xiao Si hiccuped a few times, then burst into tears, sometimes saying "Shi Jin, you're so good" and sometimes saying "Shi Jin, you're so bad," sounding like it had short-circuited.

Shi Jin felt both heartbroken and amused, soothing it with a gentle voice until they both fell asleep.

......

The days of idling away at the club began. Because he needed to stay close to Lian Jun, Shi Jin couldn't go anywhere and could only stay by Lian Jun's side watching him go through what seemed like an endless pile of documents, making each day incredibly dull and boring.

On the other hand, the group of Numbers looked very busy. Starting from the second day they arrived in B City, they went out every day and often didn't return until late at night.

"How is it possible that there isn't even a single person to talk to?" sighed Shi Jin in his mind, feeling like he was about to go crazy. "If I had known that coming to B City was like going to prison, I wouldn't have bothered worrying about running into my brother. There's no chance of that happening at all."

Xiao Si hummed and hawed, "It's not like you're in prison. You can use this time to cultivate your relationship with the Baby."

"Do you really think he's the type to cultivate a relationship with me?" Shi Jin shot a resentful look at Lian Jun behind the desk.

Xiao Si had no response.

"Are you bored?" Lian Jun suddenly lifted his head.

Shi Jin was startled, frozen for two seconds. He didn't want to continue with the dullness, so he honestly nodded his head.
