"What did you say?" Chu Yi held the phone, feeling his voice was a bit distant.
"Your dad got arrested by the public security bureau!" Grandma very uncharacteristically had so much patience and repeated it again, "The detention notice has been sent!"
"Notice?" Chu Yi said softly.
In his life, he had only received one notice before, which was the admission notice sent by their school. This was the first time he knew there were other types of notices.
Detention notice?
"Alright, your mom doesn't even care about him anymore, don't worry about it," grandma said, "It's best your dad didn't kill anyone. If he killed someone, I'd like to see how you live your life from now on..."
Chu Yi hung up the phone.
"Pay together?" the cashier next to him asked.
"Yeah." Chu Yi came back to his senses and looked at the things on the table, nodding his head.
"I'll add another bottle of spicy sauce!" Hu Biao held a bottle of spicy sauce.
"Have some shame," Zhou Chunyang said, "If you can finish that whole bottle of spicy sauce then add it."
"It's fine," Chu Yi said.
"I'll pay for myself," Hu Biao pointed at Chu Yi, "Brother Dog really gives me face."
Chu Yi smiled.
After returning to the dorm, everyone sat around the table and chatted while eating. First discussing how to spend the evening, whether to take a taxi or bus, controlling the timing, not eating too full at dinner because they still had to eat while singing K, and after finishing singing they still had to go eat supper, arguing for a long time about where they should go eat supper and what to eat...
Chu Yi sat at the table side the whole time listening to them talk, basically not saying anything.
He repeatedly recalled what grandma said in his mind, wanting to get more information, but grandma had already said it very clearly, it was unlikely he could find any other information.
No need to ask grandma anymore either. If there was anything else, she would have already said it earlier.
Chu Yi tilted his neck back.
Detention notice.
Dad was finally caught and detained.
He didn't know why, but after finally reacting to this fact, the first feeling Chu Yi had was relief.
It felt like a weight off his shoulders.
He was finally caught, finally didn't need to worry whether dad was dead or alive, whether he was doing alright or not, and also didn't need to resent him for not being responsible anymore.
Perhaps because he still hadn't truly come back to his senses, Chu Yi felt he didn't even think about what kind of role his dad played and how deeply he was implicated.
There was no use thinking about it anyway. He was already caught, the police would soon figure out exactly what happened.
The dorm mates finished chatting and took out their phones to play games together.
"Chu Yi, wanna play?" Zhou Chunyang asked, "Didn't you say last time you were playing, I'll bring you in."
"No...thanks," Chu Yi pulled the corners of his lips, "You guys go ahead."
"Come watch me," Hu Biao said, "I'm extremely awesome."
"Changing your name to Bragging Bullshit would suit you best," Li Ziqiang said.
"I'm not bragging!" Hu Biao refused to admit.
"Hurry up!" Zhou Chunyang slapped the table.
The few of them started shouting as they began the game.
Chu Yi tilted his head to watch Hu Biao's phone for a good while but still didn't understand, he couldn't even hear clearly what they were shouting.
Slowly up until now, he realized his so-called relief was actually just an illusion.
He wasn't relieved at all. Those things he thought were useless to think about kept spinning around in his brain.
He stretched lazily, pretending he needed some air, and took his phone to walk out of the dorm.
There were a few people in the corridor, leaning against the railing chatting.
Chu Yi walked over and stood at the very edge of the railing, silently observed the people around to make sure no one noticed him and wouldn't hear him talk before raising the phone to his eyes.
He tapped out Yan Hang's name.
How long has it been?
How many changes has this matter brought to his and Yan Hang's lives?
No matter how happy he was, whenever he thought of this matter his heart would sink.
On the surface Yan Hang didn't show much, but when they caught the cripple last time, Yan Hang had lost control. That said everything.
Now there was some progress, whether Dad getting caught was good or bad, it was still progress.
He didn't hope Dad truly had any trouble, but also feared this matter would continue looming over their heads.
At least get through this birthday. It was quite an important birthday for both him and Yan Hang.
The phone rang.
It was a message sent by Yan Hang.
- I applied with the back kitchen, later I'll go make a specialty dish for you.
Chu Yi smiled.
- Do you guys have noodles? Grandma wants me to eat noodles.
- No problem, watch me. It's my first time preparing a birthday for someone, I didn't even know you're supposed to eat noodles?
- Actually it's fine if we don't eat them, I don't know either.
- Grandma said to eat them so we'll eat them. It's no trouble anyway, wait for me to make another bowl of full marks noodles for you.
Chu Yi looked at Yan Hang's replies. Yan Hang rarely used emojis in his messages, but this one had a very cute smiling emoji.
You could tell Yan Hang was in a very good mood.
Looking at this little emoji, Chu Yi suddenly hesitated.
Dad was only "arrested" for now. But Yan Hang was happily preparing his birthday for him, even adding a cute emoji showing how delighted he was. If he told Yan Hang about this now...
Yan Hang wouldn't easily reveal any emotions he could perceive. Yan Hang kept everything in his heart.
Just thinking about Yan Hang having to ponder this matter while still preparing his birthday and making him happy, his heart ached.
He definitely had to talk about it, but the timing was truly too inappropriate.
It was already difficult to get back into the right mood to properly enjoy this birthday. He didn't want Yan Hang to be affected either.
At least get through this birthday. It was quite important to both him and Yan Hang.
"Brother Hang, what time are your brothers coming?" Zhang Chen came to ask.
