Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

"Your dad still hasn't sold that stock? It's already crashed, clearly forcing these retail investors out."

"Tell auntie, them going against the big players is not even like an arm wrestling a leg, more like a finger wrestling a leg."

"The short-term moving averages have all diverged, right?"

During the break before the meeting, the conference room turned into a securities trading hall. Qi Shi'an sat in his chair, conserving energy. A few employees from the investment department stood beside him, watching stock trends together. After looking at a dozen or so, he said with deep understanding, "This is how it is when old folks trade stocks. If you're not careful, they do as they please. When they lose money, they still blame you."

The futures department manager said cheerfully, "Mr. Qi, you've also been forced to help out?"

"I've been enslaved for several weeks already." Just as Qi Shi'an finished saying this, several team leaders from the consulting department walked into the conference room one after another. He glanced at each of them. When he saw Shen Duoyi, his gaze lingered for a moment longer.

Shen Duoyi was turning his phone to silent mode and didn't notice. Only after he finished did he look up and greet, "Mr. Qi."

Qi Shi'an nodded, signaling everyone to take their seats and prepare for the meeting.

Annie turned off the lights and sat in the corner to take meeting minutes. Everyone either leaned against their chair backs or propped their chins, all in a relaxed, contemplative state. That notebook was still in front of Shen Duoyi. This time he sat in the middle so Qi Shi'an wouldn't wrongly accuse him of dozing off.

"Let's first talk about a few stocks we're optimistic about that we need to focus on promoting in the coming period." Today, Qi Shi'an didn't stand in front of the projector, just sat in his seat staring at his computer screen. "No need to elaborate on the magnesium concept stocks. The policy just came out yesterday, they'll definitely become a hot topic. Just remember three points about this stock. If it falls, buy more. If it rises, also buy more. If it surges, you must react immediately and boldly buy a lot more. It's taking over from the zinc concept stocks. The zinc concept stocks are already at a high position, so don't open new mid to long-term positions. If you're really interested, you can get involved short-term."

Shen Duoyi had a habit when listening to lectures in school - he liked to click his pen cap, and it was the uncontrollable kind. When clicking, it didn't affect his listening at all, as if it was a subconscious behavior.

The "click click" sound accompanied Qi Shi'an. After Qi Shi'an finished speaking and paused, he glanced at Shen Duoyi's hand and called out, "Team Leader Shen, which other stocks do you think we should focus on promoting?"

Shen Duoyi was originally leaning relaxedly against the table edge. After being asked, he instantly sat up straight. The hand clicking the pen cap also stopped. He replied, "I calculated some statistics yesterday. Xinjiang Urban Construction, Xinjiang Zhonghe, and Qingsong Jianhua all look good, so I'm optimistic about the Xinjiang sector."

Qi Shi'an switched to the next chart. The chart showed all the individual stocks in the Xinjiang sector had already turned green across the board. He agreed, "Also a predetermined hot topic, and the momentum will be huge."

Shen Duoyi perfectly answered the boss's question, so he continued clicking his pen cap in a good mood. The original intent of calling his name was to get him to stop. Who knew the clicking got even more lively. Qi Shi'an wanted to laugh in exasperation. He simply finished talking about the remaining few stocks accompanied by the "click click" sound.

The second half of the meeting was always for open discussion. The consulting department staff were no longer as restrained as last time and could engage in debates with the investment department. Qi Shi'an talked until his mouth was dry. He picked up his cup to quench his thirst, not participating in the arguments between his subordinates.

"Team Leader Shen, are you done drawing?"

"Almost, I only have two hands, okay." Things like analysis charts, everyone has their own way of drawing them, but the core message expressed is basically the same. Shen Duoyi was the fastest, so they always had him draw.

His colleagues took the chart he just drew and started discussing. He actually wasn't that interested in that stock on the chart, so he drew another one himself. When Qi Shi'an put down his cup and paced over to listen in on each team's discussion, he stood beside Shen Duoyi as if checking his homework.

"Mr. Qi." Shen Duoyi put down his pen. "What do you think about this stock's future development?"

Qi Shi'an inconspicuously snatched the other person's ballpoint pen and replied, "It hasn't broken through the rectangular fluctuations yet. If you like it, don't rush to buy."

Shen Duoyi wanted to make a mark. Only then did he realize the pen had ended up in the other person's hand. He met Qi Shi'an's gaze and realized, "Was I clicking my pen cap again? Sorry, I'll switch to a fountain pen next time."

Those few sentences used up all the time. In the blink of an eye, it was already noon. Annie tidied up the conference room while the others prepared to go eat lunch. Qi Shi'an took the chance to say, "Anyone going to the company cafeteria? Let's go together."

Shen Duoyi was closest and responded, "I'm going."

The company cafeteria wasn't lively even during lunchtime. Although many employees came to eat, everyone chatted in low voices without much commotion. Several departments occupied an area. Qi Shi'an was especially conscientious and sat right in the consulting department group.

During the meal, his phone kept ringing nonstop with messages. He took a quick glance and then put it on silent. At the same time, Team Leader Qi's phone beside him also kept ringing. The other colleagues joked, "Staying out all night, the girlfriend has to keep a close eye for a week before she can relax."

Qi Shi'an glanced at Shen Duoyi who was drinking soup right across from him, then seemingly casually explained, "My mom is having me watch two stocks for her, and also for a group of her lady friends. Yesterday they even made a group and pulled me in. They keep sending messages."

Shen Duoyi sensed those words were directed at him, so he smiled and responded, "Auntie is so cute."

After lunch, they finally had to part ways. Qi Shi'an returned to the 30th floor alone. A copy of the morning's meeting minutes was already placed on his desk. After reading through it, he signed. After signing, he stared at the fountain pen tip, lost in thought.

He bought this fountain pen while studying in Germany but never had the heart to use it. He only started its working life half a year ago, and even then only occasionally signed his name.

Qi Shi'an pondered for a moment, then pressed the intercom, "Annie, come in for a minute."

Annie's movements were always swift. She knocked and entered, "Mr. Qi, what can I do for you?"

Qi Shi'an picked up the folder on his desk, "This is a high probability analysis report on the Growth Enterprise Market. Take it over to Team Leader Shen in consulting and see if it's useful to him."

"Okay." Annie took it and immediately went to the consulting department.

There were few people in the department during the lunch break. Shen Duoyi wasn't napping on his desk. He was making a key points outline based on the morning meeting content. There was a knock at the door. Looking up, he saw Annie standing outside.

"Team Leader Shen, not even taking a break at noon?" Annie came in and gently placed a folder on the desk. "This is the high probability analysis report for the Growth Enterprise Market. Mr. Qi asked me to bring it over to see if it would be useful."

Shen Duoyi took it. "Thank you for going through the trouble. Please also thank Mr. Qi for me."

As Annie was about to leave, she said, "You should rest for a bit, don't overwork yourself."

Data and information could never be too much, let alone a ready-made analysis report. Shen Duoyi opened the folder almost immediately, not expecting to find a pen clipped to it.

The pen body was entirely black, but exuded streaks of milky white marble patterns as fine as hair. Shen Duoyi took the pen off, unsure if Qi Shi'an had accidentally left it or if it was intentional.

The pen cap wasn't tightly closed. After removing it, he found the gold nib of the pen exposed with a bit of black, indicating it had been used not long ago. As he was about to recap it, he noticed a folded note tucked inside the cap.

Shen Duoyi gently pulled out the note and unfolded it. On the small sticky note was written: "Hope you will like it."

He opened his notebook and hesitated for a moment while holding the pen, then wrote down his own name. The nib was very smooth and didn't scratch the paper at all. He capped the pen and weighed it in his palm, feeling it had substance.

In the evening, Zhang Yiming had no one to accompany him, so he brought wine and food to bother Qi Shi'an again.

"Where are all your boyfriends and girlfriends? Have they seen your true colors?"

The first thing Qi Shi'an did when he got home was take a shower. After washing up, he didn't put on pajamas, but changed into extremely casual clothes.

Zhang Yiming asked, "Going out again?"

"Returning to the company late at night." Forex markets fluctuated greatly at night, especially in the early morning hours. Qi Shi'an would go home to rest for a few hours before continuing to work. He lay on the sofa in the side hall looking at his notebook, annoyed. "I have plans with You Zhe tomorrow, I almost forgot."

The appointment was for the morning, meaning that after working through the night, he still wouldn't be able to rest and would have to work straight through until getting off work the next day. Qi Shi'an threw a pillow at Zhang Yiming and directly ordered him out. "Hurry up and leave after you're done eating, don't disturb my sleep."

The sky was already turning completely dark. Zhang Yiming was alone in the living room watching a game and eating. Qi Shi'an had already returned to the bedroom to rest. At this moment, Shen Duoyi's black Volkswagen had just pulled into Wenhu Apartments.

The sound of the door opening rang out. Grandpa Shen immediately complained, "Why are you so late today? I thought you were working overtime."

Shen Duoyi changed his shoes and came in. "I took a detour to buy some things and ended up in a traffic jam."

He hurried to the kitchen to cook. The bags and his backpack were thrown on the sofa. Grandpa Shen helped him take them to the bedroom, muttering, "The bags aren't big but quite heavy."

After a simple dinner, Shen Duoyi didn't plan to work tonight. He went to his room, took out the pen from his bag, and then pulled out the seven or eight bottles of ink from the other bag. When he was about to write, he didn't know what to write. Finally, after pondering for a long time, he wrote out a poem "Spring Snow at Qin Garden" from memory.

After fiddling around for a night, he had written several poems. Shen Duoyi gently capped the pen, thinking that he hadn't said "thank you" to Qi Shi'an yet. He sat at the desk in a daze for a while, then suddenly remembered something and got up to go to the study.

The study was very small, with various books piled on the desk, and the bookcases and shelves were all full. Shen Duoyi pulled open a cabinet door and rummaged through a section of actuarial exam study materials, quickly finding an unopened notebook.

He carefully tore off the packaging paper, revealing the notebook's brand new cover. The specifications and paper were the same as the one he was currently using.

Shen Duoyi also wanted to tuck in a note with "Hope you will like it" written on it. But on second thought, he didn't have a secretary to run errands for him. Either way, he would have to personally deliver it to the 30th floor himself. He might as well just say it directly, no need to go through extra trouble.

A night passed. The traders in the forex investment department were all exhausted. Some curled up in their seats, some went to the break room, all catching up on sleep without exception. Qi Shi'an was still holding down the fort in the trading room. When he got sleepy, he would take out the chat records between his mom and other aunties to read, which could cheer him up.

"Mr. Qi, you should also go rest for a bit. We'll keep watch."

"It's fine, you all go eat breakfast. I'll head directly to the 30th floor in a bit." Qi Shi'an sat in his original spot without moving. For several hours, the forex market conditions changed erratically, fluctuating frequently.

As the work day was about to begin, after the other colleagues finished breakfast and returned, Qi Shi'an finally left. He was wearing a shirt and jeans, a bit out of place in the entire building. But if he had to wear a suit and tie after staying up most of the night, he would definitely bid farewell to the financial world immediately.

With a "ding", the elevator doors slowly opened. Qi Shi'an, who had just finished yawning, raised his eyes and saw Shen Duoyi inside.

Shen Duoyi was surprised for a moment, not expecting Qi Shi'an to appear on this floor at this time, and dressed so casually. By the time he came back to his senses, Qi Shi'an had already entered the elevator and stood beside him.

Not only did he stand next to him, he also asked, "Looking for me?"

Shen Duoyi asked back, "How did you know?"

Qi Shi'an smiled wryly. "You pressed the button for the 30th floor."

In the time it took to speak, they had already arrived. Shen Duoyi followed Qi Shi'an into the office. Seeing that he looked tired, he wanted to make it quick. Walking to the desk, he took out the notebook from his bag and said straightforwardly, "Hope you will like it."

Qi Shi'an was stunned for a moment, not expecting Shen Duoyi to reciprocate the gift.

But Shen Duoyi had already handed the notebook to him, continuing, "I bought this when I was on a business trip in Japan last year. I've been using another matte one. This cover is a bit shinier, more luxurious, and the paper is very nice to write on."

Qi Shi'an was amused by his serious sales pitch and took the notebook. "Thank you, I like it very much. How about the pen I gave you? Is it comfortable to use?"

"Mm, it writes quite well." Shen Duoyi reached into his bag and felt around. "I brought it, planning to use it for signing from now on."

After a brief pause, Qi Shi'an flipped open the notebook cover and stared at the flyleaf. "Write my name for me."

Shen Duoyi took it. "Okay, in the middle or a bit lower?"

He placed the notebook flat on the desk, holding it with one hand and writing with the other. As he leaned over, his bangs gently hung down. The nib glided across the page as he carefully and swiftly wrote three characters.

Qi Shi'an glanced over and was slightly stunned. "Why did you write your own name?"
