Chapter 46 - Chapter 37 Part 2

"I don't know 'anything.' I can't shoot 'anything.' You tell me," Chen Chao said, looking at Brother Di. "If you don't, I'm leaving."

Brother Di looked at him through the lens, snapped a couple of shots of Chen Chao's impatient frown, and said, "You two, just do whatever."

Right now, Chen Chao wanted to go back three days and snap back a few more times at the Brother Di who had said Miao Jiayan lacked spirit on the first day of the shoot.

The hell knows what you want to shoot.

Seeing that Chen Chao was about to lose his temper, Miao Jiayan came over, grabbed his wrist, and looked up at him.

The camera was set up right beside them, so Chen Chao also lowered his head to look at Miao Jiayan, seeing his own reflection in his dark, bright eyes.

Miao Jiayan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but being stared at by Chen Chao like this, he forgot what he could possibly say.

Under a gloomy sky, in a boundless field of "roses," a young man and his lover gazed at each other. An indescribable emotion was on the little lover's face; a soft affection swirled in his eyes, enveloping his handsome lover.

The older sister, standing to the side, thought, 'This is amazing, absolutely amazing,' and took many pictures with her own phone.

"Young man, walk forward," Brother Di said.

Chen Chao lifted his leg and started walking.

"Barefoot," Brother Di added.

Chen Chao turned back and asked, "Can you even get my feet in the shot?"

Brother Di said he could.

So Chen Chao took off his shoes and socks. Miao Jiayan bent down, picked them up, and carried them out of the camera's view, placing them with his own clothes before hurrying back.

"Hold hands."

Chen Chao held out his hand, and Miao Jiayan took it. Chen Chao had only been shooting for a short while, so his hand was still very warm. Miao Jiayan had been shooting for some time, and his fingers were ice-cold.

The pants Chen Chao had changed into were also solid-colored. The legs were a bit long, and after he took off his shoes, the back of the cuffs touched the ground. The Chinese roses had thorns, and although Chen Chao was standing between two rows of flowers, his feet still got scratched occasionally. Miao Jiayan had been shooting with bare legs the whole time; who knows how many times he had been scratched.

The tall, short-haired boy strode forward, with his little lover, hand in hand, following behind. As the little lover ran, the hem of his dress lifted slightly. He gripped the boy's hand with both of his, afraid of being left behind.

"Look back, Yanyan."

Miao Jiayan heard and immediately looked back, not letting go of Chen Chao's hands as he continued to follow him.

Brother Di no longer bothered with the reflector board, letting the two of them walk as they pleased.

"Let go of his hand," Brother Di said.

Miao Jiayan let go and stood on the spot, watching Chen Chao.

Chen Chao glanced back once, then continued walking, his back ramrod straight, his figure from behind very handsome.

Miao Jiayan kept watching him, his eyes unhurried and calm. He stood on the spot, perpetually gentle.

Brother Di had become addicted to photographing him. He watched Chen Chao, and Brother Di photographed him.

Chen Chao had walked quite a distance and hadn't heard Brother Di call him. If he walked any further, he'd probably be out of the frame, so he turned around and went back on his own.

When he got back, he found that Brother Di had been photographing Miao Jiayan the entire time, and he thought, 'What was the point of me walking that far?'

"Do you still need me or not?" Chen Chao had been walking barefoot for half the day, and his feet had gone cold.

"Yes, we're not done shooting," Brother Di said.

"Then let's shoot," Chen Chao said.

Brother Di moved behind Chen Chao, putting some distance between them, and prompted, "Yanyan."

Miao Jiayan was standing in front of Chen Chao, completely blocked by him, so he couldn't be in the shot. He took a step to the side, revealing himself from beside Chen Chao.

Brother Di said, "Go back."

Miao Jiayan was very confused, but he took a step back.

Brother Di said again, "Yanyan, look at him."

Chen Chao: "..."

But Miao Jiayan seemed to understand what he meant. He looked up at Chen Chao. Chen Chao had been photographed to the point of having no temper left; he felt that this money Miao'er was earning really wasn't easy.

Miao Jiayan was shorter than Chen Chao. Chen Chao's height was shooting up endlessly, while Miao Jiayan was currently just a little over 1.7 meters tall.

He suddenly reached out to wrap his arms around Chen Chao's neck, standing on his tiptoes to press close and resting his chin on Chen Chao's right shoulder. His soft hair cascaded down, also brushing against Chen Chao's jawline.

"Beautiful," Brother Di said.

Brother Di moved a little closer. Miao Jiayan removed one arm. He looked calmly at the lens, his right hand resting on Chen Chao's shoulder, his left hand hanging at his side.

A bit of his silhouette could be seen from beyond Chen Chao's shoulder, a thin white strap hanging on his own.

He couldn't keep standing on his tiptoes. Miao Jiayan got tired and pulled his arm back.

Brother Di said, "Young man, sit down."

Chen Chao asked, "How much longer are we shooting?"

Brother Di said, "The last set."

So Chen Chao sat down on the spot. Brother Di carried over a reflector board with one hand and set it up a short distance away.

Chen Chao was sitting cross-legged. Brother Di said, "You don't have to keep your back so straight, it looks like you're meditating."

Having lost his temper, Chen Chao let his shoulders slump and his back relax into a slight curve.

Brother Di was satisfied and gestured to Miao Jiayan, "Sit."

Miao Jiayan also sat down cross-legged, his knees touching Chen Chao's.

"You don't need to slouch, you sit up straight," Brother Di said.

Miao Jiayan straightened his back into a taut, straight line.

"OK, look at him."

It was already an overcast day, and because it was getting late, the sky was now very dark.

Miao Jiayan moved closer to look at Chen Chao, meeting his gaze.

Chen Chao could feel Miao Jiayan's leg, which was pressed against his, trembling. He didn't know if it was because he was too cold.

One sat straight, the other slightly slouched. At this moment, they were looking at each other at eye level. The small, protruding bone on the bridge of Miao Jiayan's nose became somewhat distinct. In this dim light, Chen Chao could see a few small moles scattered across Miao Jiayan's face. One was just below his mouth, perhaps only half a centimeter from his lower lip line.

They were already intimate, so this level of closeness was nothing.

"A little closer," Brother Di said.

So Miao Jiayan leaned forward a bit more. His hand was propped on the ground, pressing down on the stem of a Chinese rose. A small thorn pricked his palm, and Miao Jiayan's eyelashes trembled slightly.

It was as if they could feel each other's breath.

Miao Jiayan didn't dare to move any closer. He was a little scared.

"Don't let your eyes wander." The camera was very close.

But Miao Jiayan didn't dare to look at Chen Chao anymore. He scrambled to stand up, and the small thorn in his palm dug in deeper. Miao Jiayan nearly lost his balance.

Chen Chao reached out and caught his back. Miao Jiayan looked up at him, and their eyes met once again.

Brother Di snapped several shots in succession.

Amidst the sound of the camera shutter, Chen Chao suddenly remembered the damp, indistinct kiss on the side of his face from the summer after middle school graduation.
