Chapter 27

Bloody Calamity - Begging the High Immortal for Fulfillment Part 1

Wu Xuan’s commotion was a bit loud, and all the guests at the other tables in the hall looked over.

Yu Zhen was also startled. He reflexively turned his head to look, then his eyes widened.

Was it an illusion? Why was there a faint red mist floating around Wu Xuan? It clearly wasn't there last time he ran into him on the plane.

Sensing the shock in his heart, Yin Yan stood up to block his line of sight, turned his head to meet Wu Xuan's gaze, and responded, "We can talk, but let's go to a private room."

Wu Xuan didn't like being the subject of gossip either. After his outburst, he immediately suppressed his anger and strode over.

The person eating at the same table as Wu Xuan frowned, then got up and followed him.

Bu Chen hadn't expected Wu Xuan to be eating here today too, and of all the rotten luck, to be sitting so close. Just as he was sighing internally about how enemies were bound to meet, he saw the person following behind Wu Xuan.

"Wu Feng?" he exclaimed, then immediately composed his expression, sighing heavily in his heart about his bad luck.

The Wu Family was different from other families. They were very particular about rules and had never split up the family assets. From their ancestors to the present, the entire clan had always done business together. The cousins of this generation also advanced and retreated as one, somewhat resembling the great aristocratic and scholarly families of ancient times.

Wu Feng was the eldest son of the main branch of the Wu Family's current generation. He had been groomed since childhood to be the future leader of the family. He was a serious person and fiercely protective of his own. The young people in their circle had all had some friction with each other, more or less, but no one dared to provoke this Wu Feng. No one was willing to provoke him, because doing so meant a mountain of trouble.

Now, his sister's comment about Wu Xuan being cheated on had been overheard by the man himself. It seemed today's meal was not going to end well.

With various thoughts in their minds, the group moved to a private room. Fortunately, the room Yin Yan had booked earlier was still being held for them, sparing them the trouble and embarrassment of waiting for a table.

After they were all seated in the private room, Bu Chen ordered a new spread of dishes. He didn't ask the waiter to bring any alcohol, fearing that people might drink too much and cause a scene, so he only ordered some tea and juice.

"Make yourself clear. What do you mean Xiao Ya begged you and called you crying?"

Wu Xuan was the first to lose his patience, his words full of doubt and accusation from the get-go.

Bu Chen frowned upon hearing this, Bu Lian looked indignant, Wu Feng sipped his tea thoughtfully, and Yu Zhen was still staring at Wu Xuan, as if trying to stare a flower out of him. In the entire room, only Yin Yan, the one being questioned, and Xu Wu, who was lying on Yu Zhen's lap, remained calm and composed.

Of course, perhaps it was only a superficial calm.

Yin Yan suddenly turned his head to look at Yu Zhen and said, "I want to drink some juice."

Yu Zhen snapped back to reality, glanced at the juice right beside his hand, and questioned him with his eyes.

'Isn't the juice right there? If you want to drink it, just pour it yourself. No need to announce it.'

Yin Yan didn't speak, but raised his hand and gently caressed his own cup, his meaning self-evident.

"..."

With a deadpan face, Yu Zhen leaned over to grab the large glass pitcher of juice.

"Be careful not to drop it."

As he leaned over, Yin Yan considerately reached out and gently supported his waist, in a half-embrace.

And so, Wu Feng stopped drinking his tea, Bu Chen stopped frowning, Bu Lian was no longer indignant, and Wu Xuan became even angrier.

He was fuming over here, trying to maintain his composure for a talk, but the other party was showing off their affection right in front of him. What kind of person does that?

"Yin Yan, you—"

"One moment." Yin Yan noticed that Yu Zhen's body had suddenly stiffened when his hand touched him. After a slight pause, he slowly retracted his hand, took the juice pitcher from him, helped him sit up straight, and said, "You eat first. I'll chat with Wu Xuan."

But Yu Zhen suddenly gripped his hand tightly.

Yin Yan's mood arrow immediately flipped from a downturn to an upturn, but his face remained calm. He turned to look at him and asked, "What's wrong?"

Yu Zhen glanced at Wu Xuan out of the corner of his eye and saw that the red mist around him had indeed vanished the moment he held Yin Yan's hand. He opened his mouth, then shook his head and silently released his hand. As if to confirm, he glanced at Wu Xuan again and saw the red mist reappear. He lowered his head, using the motion of petting the cat to hide his expression, his brows furrowed.

'What's going on? Why does the red mist on Wu Xuan disappear whenever I touch Yin Yan? What is this red mist, anyway?'

Yin Yan sensed that his mood was off, but his heart only registered his utter confusion, so it wasn't appropriate to ask directly. Instead, he poured him a glass of juice and motioned for Xu Wu to pay more attention to him. Then he turned his head and spared a glance for the nearly exploding Wu Xuan, saying, "No matter what I say now, you'll think I'm slandering her behind her back because I failed to win her over."

His first words hit a raw nerve. Wu Xuan exploded, slamming the table and standing up, saying angrily, "Yin Yan, what do you mean! I'm trying to talk to you nicely, but you have to be so sarcastic and passive-aggressive with me?"

"That's why hearing is deceptive, but seeing is believing."

Yin Yan once again demonstrated his skill at making dramatic pauses. He took a phone out of his pocket, unlocked it, and handed it directly over, saying, "After the car accident, I blocked all of Han Ya's contact information, but some of the past call records can still be found. If you want to know something, confirm it yourself. I just hope that after today, there will be no more rumors about Han Ya and me. No matter how you guys want to stir things up, don't drag me into it."

His posture was open and his words were merciless. No one present was a fool; they instantly understood his meaning. The atmosphere froze for a moment.

Yin Yan's actions told everyone that he wasn't lying. That meant the one who was lying could only be a certain third party who wasn't present.

Wu Feng put down his teacup and took the phone on Wu Xuan's behalf. However, he didn't scroll through it. Instead, he locked it and pushed it back, saying amicably, "My Wu Family does not have a habit of prying into people's privacy. Young Master Yin need not do this."

"I just want to have a clear conscience," Yin Yan said calmly, not taking the phone back, his attitude consistent throughout.

All the anger in Wu Xuan's mind was extinguished. He looked at the phone in the middle of the table, which seemed to be silently tempting him, with a complicated expression. After a struggle, he finally averted his gaze, deciding that out of sight was out of mind. He looked at Yin Yan and asked, "How did Han Ya describe me to you?"

"A suitor. Someone who made her feel guilty and whom she couldn't bear to refuse."

"Damn it!"

Wu Xuan couldn't help but curse. That description was so damn familiar!

"You didn't know that Han Ya and I were already together?" he continued to ask.

Yin Yan nodded and asked in return, "When did you two get together?"

"Not long ago, just a month before your car accident. She said she had finally thought it through and decided to be with me forever. Before that, she had hesitated for a long time, saying she felt she wasn't good enough for me. I even had to coax her for a long time because of that."

Wu Xuan suddenly became more talkative, as if trying to re-stabilize the crumbling image of Han Ya in his mind.

Yin Yan mercilessly burst his bubble, "One month before the accident, the shipment of goods she asked me to help her father get finally came through. You know, the products from my mother's cosmetics company are not easy to get."

"As for not being good enough, she said that to me too."

"Fuck!"

Wu Xuan slammed the table, barely able to maintain his basic composure.

He had always thought Han Ya was aloof and noble. Although her family's circumstances were far inferior to his own, she had integrity and had never made any excessive demands by taking advantage of his pursuit of her. He never expected that while she didn't ask him for anything, she was asking Yin Yan for everything! And then she tossed him aside after using him!

What was Han Ya doing? Taking benefits from another man, then acting aloof and goddess-like in front of him. Who was she playing?

"Interesting." Wu Feng spoke up, his gaze falling on the phone on the table. He let out a cryptic laugh. "Xiao Xuan, why did you ask me out to dinner today?"

"Of course it was to discuss bringing—fuck!"

Wu Xuan trailed off mid-sentence. At this moment, he felt like the world's biggest idiot!

He had asked Wu Feng to dinner today to discuss bringing Han Ya home for the new year, and also to help pull some strings for her father!

The Wu Family was not like the Yin Family; their resources couldn't be used casually. If it weren't to cheer up Han Ya, who had been in a bad mood recently, with his personality, he would never have asked Wu Feng out!

"It seems that Han Ya really does like you. Compared to you, who has had a rebellious phase for too long and insists on starting your own business without relying on your family, Yin Yan can clearly give her more benefits, yet she still chose to be with you."

Wu Feng swirled his teacup, his words strange and his meaning unclear.

"No."

Yin Yan, however, shook his head and said, "In terms of resources, I can indeed help her more. But when it comes to networks and connections, the Wu Family is far stronger than the Yin Family."

This was also determined by their family environments. The Yin Family was small and not particularly keen on social climbing. Although they were wealthy, their network of connections was slightly weaker. The Wu Family, on the other hand, was different. With deep roots and an accumulation of several generations, their network could be said to be broader than any other family of the same level.

Although class divisions were no longer in vogue these days, certain unspoken things still existed. A network of connections represented power, and from ancient times to the present, power has always been more attractive than money.

This was also why, in the Yin Family's original destiny, the incredibly wealthy Yin Family would fall into ruin just by taking revenge on a single Han Ya—because money cannot fight against power.

Wu Feng's expression sobered. He looked at Yin Yan with a new hint of scrutiny in his eyes and said, "A car accident has certainly changed you a lot."

"It's because I've started a family. There are some responsibilities I have to shoulder now." Yin Yan caressed the ring on his hand, his reason sounding perfectly respectable.

Thus, Wu Feng's gaze shifted to Yu Zhen, who had been silently petting the cat all along.

Yu Zhen: "..."

Yin Yan gently tapped the table.

"I wish you a harmonious union for a hundred years." Wu Feng retracted his gaze and toasted Yin Yan with his tea.

Yin Yan responded politely, "Thank you."

As the two spoke, they inexplicably emitted an aura of "foolish mortals, do not interrupt." Bu Chen's gaze darted back and forth between them, and he finally decided that silence was golden and returned to his original purpose—eating.

The atmosphere in the private room became dull and strange. A ringtone suddenly broke the silence, and everyone turned towards the source of the sound.

Wu Xuan took out his phone with a dark face. He stared at the caller ID for a moment, then directly rejected the call, stood up, and said, "Yin Yan, I misunderstood you in the past. I'll treat you to a proper meal next time to apologize. Farewell."

With that, he swept out like a gust of wind.

With the main person gone, Wu Feng also stood up to leave. Bu Chen quickly put down his chopsticks to see them off.

The meal ended on an awkward note. Bu Chen had been drinking and couldn't drive, so he called for a designated driver. Yin Yan, however, left first with Yu Zhen, and before leaving, he even scheduled another gathering with Bu Chen.

Once in the car, Yu Zhen could no longer hold it in and told him about the red mist he saw on Wu Xuan. Unexpectedly, Yin Yan had a huge reaction. He immediately pulled over to the side of the road and asked in detail, "What kind of red mist?"

Yu Zhen was a little unnerved by his attitude and quickly described the appearance of the red mist in detail, also mentioning how it would disappear every time he got close to him.
