Chapter 27 - Tracking

The light screen suddenly popped up. On it, the location marker Su Heting had given the madman was a rat. His precise tracking had even found the madman's building number. The seconds of the countdown ticked in the upper right corner, and the madman immediately hung up the phone.

"Given his cunning nature, I suggest you keep the arrest time within 20 minutes. I will report his movements at all times during these 20 minutes," Su Heting said, looking at the timer. "Let's begin."

"Turn off the system surveillance," Yan Junxun said as he stood up, slapping Jiang Lian's Communicator down on the desk. "We have to catch him tonight, or we'll all be in trouble."

Jiang Lian took back his Communicator, weighing the pros and cons for a few seconds. He stood up, following Yan Junxun, and asked quickly, "He can hack into our systems? All of them?"

"All of them," Su Heting said. He opened a split screen next to the timer and started playing Lianliankan*. "Don't let him get away, or you won't get a chance this good next time."

*T/N: A puzzle game with a cute interface and a countdown to connect two pairs and eliminate them to the end.

Jiang Lian put on his jacket, pulled open the door, and shouted to those outside, "Halt system surveillance!"

"No, you have to give my dad a reason," Jue said through Piao Lin's Communicator. "What on earth is going on?"

"There's no time. Your dad's approval will take half an hour," Su Heting said without looking at the other split screen. He raised a hand and tapped it once. "Why don't you let me handle it."

The Supervisory Bureau's central light screen abruptly went black, and the system broadcasts in the main hall stopped. Then, the lights in the external basketball court, the parking lot, and the surrounding shops all went out. However, this was only the beginning. With the Supervisory Bureau as the epicenter, the darkness spread like sprayed ink, covering the Docking Area's night in the blink of an eye.

"Warning!" the Supervisory Bureau's door security system was the first to cry out. "Malicious intrusion spreading—"

"Ding dong," Su Heting said, still playing Lianliankan. "Shutdown achievement unlocked."

"Jue, Jue, are you still there?" Piao Lin tried calling out to the Jue in his ear, but there was no response.

Voices of astonished questioning arose throughout the Docking Area. Drivers stuck in after-work traffic suddenly found the traffic lights had gone dark. Communicators in the middle of calls all experienced signal problems, and countless people stood on the streets, watching as the clusters of buildings were devoured by darkness.

"Hello? Can you hear me?"

"What's wrong with the light screens?" an elegant woman in high heels anxiously asked her companion. "They suddenly disappeared."

"Only 20 minutes," Su Heting said, propping his face in his hand. "Everything turns back on when the time's up."

"You've gone too far," Jiang Lian said, his plans thrown into disarray by Su Heting's actions. "What is wrong with you?!"

Yan Junxun slipped past between them. The main hall was filled with clamorous discussions, but he didn't look at anyone as he quickly reached the entrance. The door security system was still screaming. He said to Su Heting, "My car is in the parking lot."

"The barrier's already been lowered," Su Heting said. The sound effects from his game were comical, and he was having a great time playing it. "I recommend the optimal solution for you: let Shi Shanyan drive."

Yan Junxun vaulted over the parking lot's railing and, without hesitation, tossed the car keys to Shi Shanyan.

"Ace driver," Su Heting said, crossing his legs. "The rat is in a place with heavy traffic. It's all up to you."

Shi Shanyan caught the car keys. Before getting in, he held out his hands to Yan Junxun. "Adjust the distance on the Restraint Lock."

The left and right cuffs of the Restraint Lock were clasped tightly around Shi Shanyan's wrists. The current safe distance between his hands was 60 centimeters. This was already a very dangerous distance, but Shi Shanyan wanted it longer.

Yan Junxun hesitated for only half a second before pulling Shi Shanyan's hands toward him. His inner wrist had the sensor controls for the Restraint Lock, with authorization exclusively open to Yan Junxun.

"20 minutes of free movement," Yan Junxun said, staring at Shi Shanyan. "It goes back to normal when the time's up."

Shi Shanyan flexed his wrists and said obediently, "Alright."
