Death and rebirth are intertwined, condensing all the love, hate, and grudges of all things into a complete circle.
But everyone's circle is not perfect, there are always regrets and shortcomings.
With regrets, there are flaws and weaknesses, and they can be taken advantage of.
Miss Feng and Fourth Young Master Wu's love was the biggest regret in her otherwise perfect life. They were a match made in heaven, but fate was jealous and separated them.
They were torn apart, unable to see each other even in the afterlife.
She was helpless and in pain, with all the riches in the world unable to bring her lover back to life.
That's why she used the Fifth Young Master Wu to lead herself step by step towards the abyss of death.
Ling Shu felt a sharp pain and a heavy weight pulling him down endlessly.
He wanted to let himself rest and sleep peacefully, free from the troubles of the outside world.
The dream was beautiful.
The Ling family had not yet fallen, and he was still the carefree young master of the Ling family. Ling Yao married a perfect husband who held a government position, was wealthy, knowledgeable, and highly valued by his superiors.
It was rumored that he would soon be sent abroad for further development, which made Ling Yao very happy.
She went out and bought many clothes, trying them on one by one and spinning around in front of him to show off. She asked Ling Shu which one looked better.
Ling Shu sat there with a coffee cup in hand, laughing along with Yue Dingtang. They were both preparing to study abroad in the old powerhouse of England, one to learn English and the other to study mathematics.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, they would meet at the highest institution of learning there, just like all the privileged students from wealthy families.
They would spend every season by the Thames, experiencing the exotic flavors of the foreign land. Perhaps they would grow closer, or perhaps they would go their separate ways, but these experiences were undoubtedly filled with the bittersweetness of youth, like a small hint of goose yellow amidst the bright red of freshly picked cherries.
A smile involuntarily spread across his lips.
But deep in his mind, there was another voice, sharp and piercing, angrily rebuking him, wishing to pour all the hardships of reality onto him.
Ling Shu, have you forgotten something?
"What did I forget?" he asked.
"You forgot something very important!"
"The most important things, Yue Dingtang and my sister, they are both by my side, I haven't missed anything."
"No, you forgot. You need to remember quickly, time is running out, you don't have much time left!"
"What time? What did I forget? I am Ling Shu, the only son of the prestigious Ling family, favored by my father and indulged by my sister. I love Yue Dingtang, and he has already responded to my feelings. We will soon go abroad together and come back as the pride of the nation, standing tall at the forefront of the times, striving for excellence and fulfilling our responsibilities. I remember all of this."
"All of that is fake!"
"That's impossible. My sister is real, and so is Yue Dingtang. Wait a minute..."
"The Ling family has long been gone."
He has never been to England. He had never seen the Thames River before, nor had he ever been there. Everything he knew about it was from Yue Dingtang's words.
As for him, he never even went to college. He went to the southwest and almost lost his life. He went from being a rookie soldier to a seasoned veteran, from being afraid of the sound of shells to being able to sleep soundly in the trenches even when they fell outside.
His name was Ling Shu, which sounds the same as "Ling Shu," a nickname for Tian Shu, the first star of the Plough.
His father hoped he could stand tall like Tian Shu, fearless in the face of adversity. A person's life is limited, but the depth of the soul is infinite. His father hoped that his soul could be like a star, standing tall for eternity, unaffected by the changes of the world. Therefore, he was Ling Shu.
He had also dreamed of studying hard, returning as a proud and accomplished elite to save his country. He had also dreamed of achieving great things, going to battle and taking the heads of enemies amidst thousands of soldiers, full of vigor and attracting the attention of the masses.
But in the end, none of these ideals were realized.
He had been to the battlefield, killed enemies, and struggled between greed and humanity. He had also faced the test of interests and integrity, ultimately ending up with scars, illness, and pain.
He then moved to another battlefield without gunpowder, where he encountered Yue Dingtang by chance. They fought against each other, solved mysteries, and used their wits, making their lives worthwhile.
Most importantly, he met Yue Dingtang, and he was no longer alone in this life.
All fate is the result of the mysterious workings of the universe. He was just an ordinary person.
Despite his claim of having a strong will, he had a soft side and struggled with hesitation.
He was even susceptible to hypnosis, getting lost in dreams and not wanting to wake up.
But he had to wake up!
He still wanted to live, to go out and see the sun with Yue Dingtang, to watch the moon rise and the stars come out with him for many more years.
Ling Shu furrowed his brow, using all his strength to tear down the final barrier.
As the darkness faded, the light reappeared!
Suddenly, he opened his eyes, gasping for air and drenched in sweat.
"Mr. Ling! Mr. Ling!" The call came from far away, gradually becoming clearer and closer.
Firelight.
The flickering firelight illuminated the nearby area, allowing him to see the face of the person in front of him.
"What are you doing here?"
"You finally woke up!" Leader Ying was on the verge of tears of joy, his happiness was no different from seeing his own father come back to life.
Ling Shu was still a bit dazed and slow to react, causing Leader Ying to become anxious.
"Ling Shu, you've been unconscious for a while now. Yue Dingtang was injured while protecting you!"
Ling Shu suddenly snapped out of it and became more alert.
"Protecting me? What do you mean? How was he injured?"
He looked around and saw Yang Chunhe standing not far away, blocking the entrance to the cave with two guns in her hands.
But she was hesitant to shoot, looking left and right.
There were sounds of fighting ahead, and it was unclear whether it was Yue Dingtang or someone else, but it was clear that there was more than one person causing a commotion.
"You forgot? We ran all the way here, there was no way out ahead, we had to go back the way we came. And then you suddenly attacked us, Mr. Yue was shot and injured by you. The pursuers caught up with us, but luckily another group of people also escaped here. The two sides fought, and we managed to hold on until now!"
Ling Shu frowned, "I attacked Old Yue?"
"Yes!" replied Leader Ying.
Ling Shu asked, "Then we didn't encounter the water snake?"
Leader Ying was puzzled, "What water snake?"
Ling Shu continued, "And you didn't suddenly go crazy, saying that everything was under the control of the real leader?"
Leader Ying suddenly realized, "You were being controlled by him all along?"
The 'him' didn't need to be explained, both of them knew it referred to the man with white hair.
Ling Shu stared, "Why weren't you controlled by him?"
Leader Ying gave a bitter smile and said, "He wants me to be his puppet, to pretend to be the leader in front of others, to block those sharp swords and arrows for him, and even to deceive the members of other Yiguan Dao sects in other regions. I know too much, so he can't easily deal with me. Otherwise, if I go crazy, it would be a waste of effort. But I have seen him control others' minds with my own eyes, and it is indeed terrifying. No one can escape. You are the first one who can stay sober."
Ling Shu stared at him, trying to judge whether what he said was true or false.
Leader Ying urgently said, "I know too much. The leader knows that once you hold me hostage, you will learn many secrets from my mouth. He will never let me go now. I can only escape with you!"
Ling Shu asked, "There is no way out here. How can we fight against those people?"
Leader Ying said, "The Azure Dragon Society is not a unified entity. The leader controls most of the benefits, and many people are dissatisfied. They just dare not speak up. This time, our uprising is a good opportunity. Mr. Yue just said to use calmness to overcome chaos, and we didn't expect a real riot outside. Maybe we can really escape!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Yang Chunhe suddenly exclaimed and helped someone back.
Ling Shu took a closer look and was surprised to see that it was Yue Dingtang.
Most of his clothes were stained red, and although he didn't show much pain on his face, his slightly staggering steps indicated that his injuries were not light.
