The Plough

The Plough

Chapter 179 - Chapter 178 Part 1

Ling Shu had been hearing some movement up ahead.

It was faint, but he could sense it.

It sounded like someone was playing the erhu, yet also like someone was weeping. There was even a fragrance in the air, but he couldn't quite place what it was. It was sweet and soft, like freshly baked bread, yet also like a woman's perfume, indescribable and elusive.

Ling Shu quickened his pace, following the sound.

The kerosene lamp in his hand flickered, casting small pockets of light around him. As he moved forward, the fragrance grew stronger and he could see a sudden light up ahead, around the corner.

Without hesitation, Ling Shu turned the corner and found himself in front of a warehouse. The space was spacious, but the artificial traces were obvious.

Compared to the semi-artificial cave before, this place looked more like a deliberately constructed underground facility.

There were iron shelves on both sides, displaying boxes of various sizes. A walkway was left in the middle, and lights were dotted around.

Walking through the rows of shelves felt like browsing a library.

The boxes had seals on them, with dates written on top. Ling Shu took a closer look and saw that some were from the Republic era, while others were from the Xuantong or Guangxu years.

He wanted to pry open the boxes, but unfortunately, he didn't have any tools on hand, so he had to give up for now.

Ling Shu walked very slowly.

This place was exceptionally strange, and he didn't know what dangers might be hidden here.

Did the members of the Azure Dragon Society just leave them here with peace of mind?

The leader of the society was cunning, and even had someone impersonate him.

It was clear that there must be some kind of trap waiting for them, and they were certain that they couldn't escape from this place.

But then Ling Shu had another thought.

Could it be that they were overestimating the enemy?

After all, many people had escaped from the underworld wedding just now. In order to catch those who had scattered, the Azure Dragon Society had to send out a lot of manpower. They might not have the energy to take care of them. If someone else were to cause trouble, the Azure Dragon Society would definitely be in a panic at this moment.

Lost in thought, Ling Shu slowly walked past rows of shelves and saw glass jars one by one.

They were filled with liquid and the yellowish light made the transparent and sparkling beads inside look even more alluring. Ling Shu couldn't help but approach and examine them, but suddenly he was startled.

Those beads were actually eyeballs. The bubbles were so thick that they appeared white, and the so-called luster was just a reflection of light and water. These eyeballs had been soaked for who knows how long, each one stiff and eerie, filled with resentment and unwillingness at the moment they were peeled from their bodies.

All the essence of their souls was concentrated in these tiny eyeballs.

Ling Shu was almost in a trance, forgetting his fear.

Through these eyeballs, he seemed to see the fear and excitement of the deceased before their deaths, their regrets for all the love and hate they couldn't fulfill, and the pain of being killed while screaming in agony. These emotions were reflected on him, as if his body had also gained new scars that began to ache.

Inside the jar, it wasn't just eyeballs, but also half an arm, a palm, and even tongues of various colors and shapes. The sight of these organs had become somewhat numb to the eye after a while.

However, one thing was certain: the fake leader was right.

The man with white hair named He was indeed the true leader of the Azure Dragon Society. This was evident from his peculiar tastes and the fact that only a leader could have such a large space to store his twisted desires.

The scent in the air grew stronger.

There was movement in the corner, and the closer Ling Shu got, the clearer he could hear it. He realized that the sound was not from an erhu, but from someone chewing and swallowing.

"How could someone be eating here? And the aroma is really something." Ling Shu furrowed his brow and couldn't help but turn around for a glance.

Outside the warehouse was pitch black, and Old Yue and Yang Chunhe were nowhere to be seen.

Ling Shu couldn't wait any longer and walked towards the source of the sound.

The lights ahead decreased significantly, and the darkness grew even darker, leaving a large corner of darkness.

Ling Shu approached with a kerosene lamp in hand.

In the corner, there was a person curled up facing the wall, but from the figure, it should be a woman.

"Who's there!" Ling Shu shouted. "Turn around and don't move!"

He had lost his gun during the struggle with the water snake earlier, and now he was unarmed with only a kerosene lamp in hand, so he naturally didn't dare to get too close.

But the person continued to ignore him, still facing away with their shoulders shrugging up and down, as if they were eating.

Eating in this sort of place?
