The Plough

The Plough

Chapter 162 - Chapter 161

On the left side of the Fifth Young Master Wu sat a man.

They were facing away from Yue Dingtang and were quite far away. Yue Dingtang couldn't even be sure if that was really the Fifth Young Master Wu.

Why would the Fifth Young Master Wu be sitting with a man watching a movie?

Yue Dingtang couldn't resist waking up Ling Shu.

The latter groggily responded with a grunt and reluctantly sat up.

"Is the movie over?"

Yue Dingtang smirked, "Look at the third seat from the right in the second row."

Ling Shu stared at the seat for a while and asked, "What's wrong with that person?"

Yue Dingtang replied, "Doesn't he look like the Fifth Young Master Wu?"

Ling Shu shook his head, "No, he doesn't. And besides, Miss Feng isn't sitting next to him."

Yue Dingtang suspected that Ling Shu was still half asleep. He was usually sharp and observant, but now he was kind of cute.

"Forget it, go back to sleep."

With a sigh, Ling Shu closed his eyes and fell asleep, the laughter of the surrounding audience serving as a lullaby.

Yue Dingtang had no choice but to let Ling Shu sleep, and he himself lost interest in the movie. He kept an eye on the person who looked like the Fifth Young Master Wu, until the end of the movie when the man got up and headed towards the exit.

Yue Dingtang quickly grabbed Ling Shu and followed behind.

He was curious about this person and had to find out if he was really the Fifth Young Master Wu.

As soon as the Fifth Young Master Wu left the theater, he disappeared into the crowd, and it was easy to lose him in the dark of night.

Yue Dingtang was prepared and had already left through another door, circling around to wait outside the theater.

After a while, he saw the Fifth Young Master Wu come out from inside. As the Fifth Young Master Wu walked, he was followed by someone who didn't walk beside him.

From a distance, it seemed like they were strangers, even though they had just been walking together intimately.

Yue Dingtang couldn't help but take a few more glances at the person. They wore a black long robe, a round hat, and a pair of sunglasses under the hat, making it hard to see their face. They were slightly taller and thinner than the Fifth Young Master Wu, like a black bamboo pole.

Half asleep and half awake, Ling Shu was dragged along, stumbling and following behind. Yue Dingtang noticed that the other person seemed very alert, walking quickly and frequently looking back. He had to slow down a bit and wait until they were further apart before following again.

Although he knew that his tracking skills were far inferior to Ling Shu's, he also knew that everyone had their own expertise.

But now Ling Shu was still in a daze, and they had been running for so long that Ling Shu was only just starting to come to his senses.

"Who are we following?" Ling Shu rubbed his eyes and finally realized that Yue Dingtang was tracking someone.

"Fifth Young Master Wu," Yue Dingtang said succinctly.

In the distance, the Fifth Young Master Wu and the man entered a house one after the other.

Yue Dingtang glanced at the doorplate.

No more following, Yue Dingtang was not familiar with this area and could not rashly knock on the door.

Ling Shu patted his arm, indicating that he should follow him.

The two turned into an alley, Ling Shu led him through an empty house, and then skillfully climbed a tree in the backyard of the house with three or two strokes, and jumped directly onto the wall.

He turned around and reached out to him.

Yue Dingtang did not take that hand. He climbed up the wall himself and looked down. The house next door was not the one the Fifth Young Master Wu entered, but the one next to it.

Without waiting for him to ask any questions, Ling Shu had already silently leapt off the wall, crossed through someone's yard, and climbed over to the Fifth Young Master Wu's backyard.

Yue Dingtang: ...

Now it was too late to stop Ling Shu from "stealing". Ling Shu agilely and quickly flipped over the fence, and directly blocked the back door of the house, just in time for the Fifth Young Master Wu to come out from the back door.

The two of them came face to face.

Fifth Young Master Wu: ???

Ling Shu raised his hand and waved, "Good evening?"

Yue Dingtang jumped down from the fence, landed smoothly, and also showed a calm smile to the Fifth Young Master Wu.

Fifth Young Master Wu: ???

Yue Dingtang said, "I didn't expect it to be such a coincidence today. We were taking a walk nearby and happened to run into Mr. Wu."

Fifth Young Master Wu was screaming in his heart: Is this what you call taking a walk?

Is it normal to take a walk in the alley and climb over walls at night?

His face twitched slightly, but he managed to pull out a stiff yet polite smile.

"How coincidental," he said.

Curious, Ling Shu peered through the crack in the door behind him.

Quick to react, the Fifth Young Master Wu reached out and pulled the door shut.

"Mr. Wu, I didn't realize you had business in this area. Is this a visit to inspect your business?"

Ling Shu asked, grinning mischievously and adopting a confrontational stance.

Although he knew better than to hit a smiling face, the Fifth Young Master Wu couldn't help but want to wipe the grin off Ling Shu's face.

But ultimately, he decided against it. Making a scene would only attract more trouble, especially with these two people involved.

So the Fifth Young Master Wu smiled back and replied, "Not everyone here are from the Changsan gang. There are also legitimate residents, including an old servant who has been taking care of me since I was young. She's getting old and her health isn't great, so I came to check on her."

Ling Shu was surprised and asked, "The Wu family is so wealthy, and they have been serving you since childhood. Can't they help you find a new place to live? It's known that Mr. Wu is filial, but if others hear that you are just wandering around the kiln, it won't look good, especially if it reaches Miss Feng's ears."

The Fifth Young Master Wu laughed and replied, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Ling. Zhenzhu knows that I am filial and loyal, and she will only appreciate me more. Since we have such a fate, why don't you both come to my house and have a cup of tea?"

Ling Shu declined, "No, it's getting late, and we should be heading back. Let's make plans for another day. Goodbye."

With that, he bowed and left with Yue Dingtang.

As they walked away, Ling Shu whispered to Yue Dingtang, "Have we alerted the enemy?"

Yue Dingtang said, "Let's go back first and have Shen Renjie come over to take a look."

Ling Shu replied, "We need to hurry. Fifth Young Master Wu is obviously lying. If we wait any longer, he might destroy all the evidence, and we won't be able to find anything."

Yue Dingtang asked, "By the way, how did you know that this area is all controlled by the Changsan gang?"

Ling Shu hesitated and said, "It's a long story."

Yue Dingtang said, "I have time tonight to listen to your story."

Ling Shu was speechless and regretted not continuing to doze off.

Why did he have to bring up a topic that would only hurt himself?

The two of them went directly to the Yang family's house and found Shen Renjie, who was already in bed. They woke him up and asked him to gather some people from the police station.

They all met at the entrance of the house they had investigated earlier. Although Shen Renjie was reluctant, he moved quickly and arrived only half an hour after Ling Shu and Yue Dingtang, who had arrived early but were still considered late.

The house was already empty, with not only the Fifth Young Master Wu and the man gone, but all the files inside had been burned to ashes. There were still embers in the brazier, indicating that the other party had hastily destroyed the evidence right after Ling Shu and Yue Dingtang left.

After a night of fruitless efforts, even Yue Dingtang was a little disappointed, let alone Shen Renjie.

"I'm exhausted!" Ling Shu collapsed onto the bed, not wanting to move.

He muttered with his mouth buried in the pillow, "I'm starting to suspect that Yang Chunhe's disappearance is related to the Fifth Young Master Wu."

Surprisingly, Yue Dingtang could still hear what he was saying.

"Not only that, I even think that he is related to Miss Feng's disappearance. Xiao Yue said that Feng Zhenzhu is now uncomfortable around people, not only is her spirit low, but she also always seems distracted, except when she's close to the Fifth Young Master Wu. What if her disappearance is related to the Fifth Young Master Wu?"

Ling Shu sat up abruptly, "So it's not that she's not resisting, but that she's afraid to resist?"

Yue Dingtang nodded.

Ling Shu slumped back down, feeling dejected.

"There's no use speculating here, and Feng Zhenzhu refuses to see us."

"Tomorrow, I'll have Xiao Yue go to the Feng family's house and ask."

Yue Dingtang paused, "So how did you know that the area is part of the Changsan gang?"

Ling Shu pulled the blanket over his head.

"I'm asleep."

Yue Dingtang: ...
