The Plough

The Plough

Chapter 101 - Chapter 101

At this moment, Yue Dingtang had many thoughts running through his mind.

He thought about how Ling Shu might suddenly faint, or burst out laughing and say he was just joking. After all, Ling Shu was known for being frivolous.

He thought about pushing Ling Shu away and sternly telling him not to try to seduce people with his beauty, that he wouldn't fall for his tricks, and then enjoying the sight of Ling Shu's shocked and injured expression under the lamp light.

He even thought about turning the tables and pressing Ling Shu against the wall, taking the offensive instead of the defensive.

But no matter how much he thought, he couldn't keep up with the rapidly changing situation.

The next second, Ling Shu didn't faint or burst out laughing.

Instead, from the other end of the corridor came a sound of hurried and chaotic footsteps.

Yue Dingtang reacted quickly and fired a shot at the lamp beside him!

With a loud bang, the only source of light was gone.

The other party seemed stunned into silence, unsure if they were friend or foe, this was the best choice.

Yue Dingtang realized that Ling Shu was also holding his breath.

He gently grasped the other's wrist, but Ling Shu flexibly broke free and patted him on the back, silently indicating that he was okay.

"Did we take the wrong turn?" A voice sounded not far ahead. The volume was deliberately lowered, but it still reached their ears.

Yue Dingtang couldn't distinguish who it was, so he continued to listen intently.

"That's right, we came in from the exit. Tang Yulin walked out of here years ago!"

With this voice, both of them knew who it was. An old acquaintance, Zhen Congyun, Miss Zhen.

Yue Dingtang had never figured it out. With the financial resources of the Zhen family, Miss Zhen could easily become a comfortable socialite in high society.

Her clever tricks were enough to support her in coming up with new ideas for her clothing and lifestyle, guiding the fashion trends of the time.

Even if she married someone she didn't like, it was no longer the old era where women were not allowed to divorce and remarry.

Nowadays there were many socialites who have had second or third marriages, as long as they marry well, they still live extravagantly and freely.

Miss Zhen, however, chose to take a different path.

She eloped a thousand miles away, keeping it a secret from her family, and with a young man from Russia.

Speaking of which, this woman was already capricious and eccentric.

When Third Sister Yue Chunxiao wanted to introduce Miss Zhen to him through a mutual acquaintance, he politely declined and did not want to have any involvement with her. But unexpectedly, they ended up getting involved in the northeast.

The light from a few horse lanterns faintly illuminated the wall, casting shadows of various heights.

"When Tang Yulin had the underground passage dug, he was well prepared. One dead end was used to deal with the enemy, while another escape route was left for himself. In case someone blocked the way outside, there was also a secret room stocked with food and water, enough to last for ten or twenty days. The Guan family ancestral tomb was nearby, and that old man probably knew about it already, otherwise he wouldn't have let Yuan Sansi guard the area!"

Zhen Congyun sounded very confident.

"At first, I didn't know where the entrance to the secret passage was, so I searched for it for a long time. Fortunately, Yuan Sansi fell into the trap himself, haha!"

Yuan Sansi.

This was the second time Yue Dingtang had heard this name.

He didn't know the full name of Old Yuan, but he had a feeling that Zhen Congyun was referring to him.

Judging from the sound of footsteps, Zhen Congyun had brought at least five or six people with her.

Would that Old Yuan be in danger if he encountered them? Various thoughts raced through their minds as they stood there.

When the person next to him moved slightly, Yue Dingtang immediately noticed and reached out to hold him back.

Ling Shu wasn't trying to hold back because of the mention of Old Yuan's name; he just had an itch in his throat.

The tickle in his throat surged up, and he had to use all his strength to suppress it. He curled his fist and pressed it against his lips, his brow furrowed.

The two of them quietly stood up and hid in the shadows, concealing their figures.

Yue Dingtang held his gun tightly in his hand, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Ling Shu didn't bring a gun; the only weapon he had was the short knife left to him by Old Yuan.

Running was not an option.

They didn't plan on running either.

Turning the tables and taking the initiative might be their best chance.

Yue Dingtang was waiting for this opportunity.

"Ah!!!" Suddenly, Zhen Congyun let out a short, sharp scream.

She had discovered Ivanov's body.

Five or six people ran after her.

"Ivanov! It's Ivanov!" Zhen Congyun knelt down and carefully held Ivanov in his arms.

The horse lamp illuminated the bloody hole on his forehead.

His handsome face did not close his eyes in death, but his blue eyes had lost their luster and became a pair of dead fish eyes.

Now is the time!

Yue Dingtang couldn't wait for them to react and search around. The moment the other party saw the shocking corpse was the best time to take action.

But someone was faster than him!

Ling Shu rushed over, and his short knife followed to stab the person closest to him in the back.

He then grabbed the person's neck with one arm and blocked the bullets with the person's body when others reacted and fired at them, buying a few more seconds of time!

He pushed the corpse towards the enemy and grabbed a gun from them.

Bang! Bang!

The chaotic sound of gunfire rang out one after another. Three of the shots were fired by Ling Shu, while the other four came from Zhen Congyun's men.

Ling Shu didn't aim for the people, instead he shot directly at their three lanterns.

Suddenly, darkness enveloped the surroundings.

In the moment of sudden darkness, people tend to lose their senses and judgment, even for experienced gunmen, there would be at least half a second of confusion.

If Ling Shu had shot at the people, even if his marksmanship was fast and accurate enough to kill one or two on the spot, he would inevitably be riddled with bullets by the remaining enemies.

But by extinguishing the lanterns, he could give himself and his companions a chance to turn the tables.

In the darkness, cries of surprise and fear echoed.

Yue Dingtang took action.

He remembered the position and possible movements of each person before the lights went out.

These images appeared before him like a floating vision, lingering and allowing him to swiftly take down his enemies in just half a minute.

In the darkness, they engaged in close combat, facing each other. They could only rely on sound to determine their opponent's position.

The bullets ran out.

A fist wind came from behind his head, and instinctively, Yue Dingtang dodged and countered with a sweeping kick, hitting the opponent's waist and ribs.

Without hesitation, he immediately rushed forward, grabbed the enemy's head with both hands, and twisted it fiercely.

With a crack, the enemy fell silent.

The gun was also passed over to Yue Dingtang.

The chaos gradually subsided as the number of enemies decreased.

The enemy was afraid of injuring their own people, so even though they had guns, they dared not shoot, which became Yue Dingtang's advantage.

"Don't move!"

Zhen Congyun's voice suddenly sounded.

Without thinking, Yue Dingtang raised his gun and aimed it in the direction of the voice. At the same time, the horse lamp lit up.

It was lit by Ling Shu, because he had a gun pointed at the back of his head.

And the owner of the gun was Zhen Congyun.

Three people.

Two of them held guns.

Yue Dingtang could shoot Zhen Congyun dead with one shot.

Zhen Congyun could shoot Ling Shu dead with one shot.

Ling Shu was caught in the middle, with the leisure to laugh at Yue Dingtang.

"It's not my fault, Miss Zhen forced me to light the lamp."

His shoulder was bleeding.

Yue Dingtang's eyelids twitched.

Blood stained his light-colored clothes, and it was gradually spreading.

It was a gunshot wound.

When Ling Shu extinguished the lamp just now, he was also shot by the other side.

In other words, he exchanged this gunshot wound for precious minutes of darkness, catching the enemy off guard.

Compared to the two relatively calm individuals, Zhen Congyun was almost going crazy with anger.

Her pretty face was pale with anger, her eyes bloodshot.

Zhen Congyun, who used to be a glamorous socialite on the Shanghai Bund, was now dressed in long pants and a coat, looking nothing like her former self.

"Put down your gun, or I'll kill him!" She pressed the barrel of her gun hard against Ling Shu's head.

Ling Shu winced in pain and said, "Miss Zhen, your older brother is worried sick about you leaving home. Before we came to the northeast, he specifically instructed us to bring you back if we ran into you. Why did you leave your comfortable life in bustling Shanghai to come here and suffer?"

Zhen Congyun sneered, "Who killed Ivanov? Was it you?"

Ling Shu replied, "It wasn't us. He was already dead when we arrived."

"You're lying!" Zhen Congyun shouted, "Don't come any closer. If you want him dead, just come and get him!"

The second half of that sentence was directed at Yue Dingtang.

"Miss Zhen, he is just my subordinate, at most an old classmate. Using him to threaten me is not a wise move," Yue Dingtang said calmly, not lowering his gun.

"Is that so?" Zhen Congyun sneered.

As soon as those words came out, she immediately aimed a shot at Ling Shu's leg and then pointed the gun back at his head.

Ling Shu groaned and his leg gave out, causing him to half-kneel.

Yue Dingtang, who had just taken a half step forward, froze in his tracks.

This woman was crazy.

He felt a sinking feeling in his heart, completely caught off guard.

"If you didn't care, you would have shot him the moment I used him to threaten you. But you didn't, which means that what you said was the opposite of what you really meant. Men are all hypocrites!" Zhen Congyun stared at the silent Yue Dingtang. "I'll ask again, who killed Ivanov?"

It seemed like Zhen Congyun was just waiting for Ling Shu's name to come out of his mouth before she would shoot Ling Shu in the back of the head without hesitation.

"It was Mr. Liu."

But Yue Dingtang gave her an unexpected answer.

"Next to Ivanov's body was another person who died, surnamed Liu. He was from the Shenyang Municipal Government and he killed Ivanov. When I came in with him earlier, Ivanov was holding Ling Shu and trying to get him to reveal the location of the treasure. Ivanov wanted to kill us, so Mr. Liu killed him. In order to keep the treasure for myself, I decided to silence Mr. Liu as well, and then you all showed up."

Zhen Congyun's gloomy gaze shifted back and forth between him and Ling Shu, and suddenly she laughed.

"So that's how it is, that's how it is! I've long suspected that something was off about you two, I should have thought of it earlier!"

In Yue Dingtang's mind, this woman was completely insane. He didn't feel surprised when he saw her inexplicably laughing.

But then, she said something that caught him off guard.

"Yue Dingtang, everyone around me says that you are humble, steady, refined, come from a privileged family, and have a noble status. You are a perfect match, but they probably never imagined that the fourth young master of the Yue family, in their eyes, is actually lovelorn!"

After saying this, Zhen Congyun burst out laughing, but no one else joined in.

Yue Dingtang's expression remained unchanged as he calmly looked at her.

It was like a sober person standing outside of a mental institution, watching the patients inside.

Zhen Congyun realized his gaze and suddenly stopped laughing.

"Throw down your gun and come over here to tie his hands. Otherwise, I'll shoot his other leg. You know I can do it!"
