Chapter 29 - Chapter 21 Part 2

He was also lucky. He didn't have to lie there for half the day like Xiao Zheng, and the chestnut vendor had indeed gone to get help. Two hours later, people from the hotel arrived.

Needless to say for Wei Feizhou and Qin Chuan, the bank cards they held were enough to get them VIP service at any high-end global hotel chain. Once the hotel learned these two were trapped, they immediately dispatched security and medical staff. When Guan Shen heard his boss was trapped, he also hurried out with them.

Although Qin Chuan was injured, he was better off than Xiao Zheng. He didn't need a stretcher; after a simple bandaging, he could walk on his own with someone to lean on.

By now, the earthquake had passed and no aftershocks had occurred. The people who remained at the hotel were clearly much safer than Qin Chuan's group, but most people don't experience many earthquakes in their lifetime, so everyone was thoroughly frightened this time. The people from Shengming Company were also lingering outside the lobby. As soon as they saw their boss return, they all crowded around to ask after his well-being.

The people from the President's Office were especially proactive.

Setting aside a confidant like Guan Shen, both Tang Mi and the newcomer Shi Yu acted very anxious, urging the medical staff to quickly re-bandage and clean Qin Chuan's wound.

At times like this, a sense of proportion was especially important.

Being too fawning and attentive, not only would the boss not appreciate it, but other colleagues would also look down on you.

Being too aloof and indifferent—then you might as well not be an assistant at all.

Bo He watched in awe, feeling deeply that she still had much to learn.

Qin Chuan was surrounded like the moon surrounded by stars.

In reality, after the doctor came over and gave it a simple look, he also said it wasn't that serious. He gave the usual instructions like resting and keeping it out of water, then went to see the other injured guests.

In comparison, Xiao Zheng's leg was more serious and required a trip to the hospital. Seeing that Qin Chuan was not in any major trouble, Old Wei personally accompanied Xiao Zheng to the hospital.

Qin Chuan wasn't particularly fond of this kind of concern.

He didn't pay attention to which subordinate was acting more sincere, his gaze sweeping intentionally and unintentionally through the crowd, but he didn't see that familiar face.

Qin Chuan felt his current thoughts were quite contradictory.

If Bo He were here now like the others, he would definitely think she was being overly attentive and had an ulterior motive.

On the other hand, now that Bo He had dusted off her hands and disappeared after a job well done, he felt a little off.

It was as if all the previous misunderstandings had just been him making a fuss over nothing.

Qin Chuan had taken psychology as an elective in graduate school, and even back then, he felt that human nature was too complex to be summarized by a single academic discipline.

If he were to analyze his own psychology regarding Bo He now, he could only say: Hard to put into words.

The Boss Qin who found it hard to put into words summoned Guan Shen the next day.

"Regarding the matter of the bonus and overtime pay, have you mentioned it to HR?" he asked Guan Shen.

Guan Shen replied, "Not yet. I was planning to wait until we get back, and when HR talks to her, I'll bring it up at the same time."

He knew that Qin Chuan wanted to fire her.

The incident that night, where Bo He went to the wrong room and was harshly reprimanded by Qin Chuan, wasn't a big deal, but it wasn't a secret either. Two other executives from Shengming Company were staying on the same floor as Qin Chuan, and it didn't take long for it to spread within a small circle. Basically everyone on the team-building trip knew about it, but no one took the initiative to go and confirm the truth with Bo He.

The matter was truly awkward. It was one thing for everyone to gossip and mock her behind her back, but it was another thing entirely to go ask the person involved to her face.

After Guan Shen heard this rumor, he subconsciously felt that Bo He's future was bleak.

Sure, Boss Qin was young, rich, and good-looking, a top contender even when compared to others in the rich second-generation circle, but you couldn't be so simple, crude, and lacking in technique.

It's a good thing for young people to be ambitious and enterprising, but it's not good to have read too many romance novels and become deeply poisoned by them.

Adding to that, Qin Chuan had made Bo He accompany him to the banquet to put Tang Mi in her place. Only Guan Shen knew about this, so Guan Shen was more certain than anyone that Bo He wouldn't be staying at Shengming Company for long.

Not only that, but as long as Qin Chuan had a bad impression of her, and if the events of these past few days were to spread, there probably wouldn't be many companies in the same city and industry willing to hire her, unless Bo He moved to another city to start over.

Just as this thought passed through his mind, he heard Qin Chuan say, "Then don't mention it for now."

Guan Shen was taken aback. "Then the bonus?"

Qin Chuan looked at him strangely. "The bonus will be paid as usual. Since the company established an award for good Samaritans, we must follow the rules. I can't possibly interfere in such matters. As for her, we'll see after the quarterly department assessment at the end of the month comes out."

Guan Shen wanted to speak but stopped himself. He wanted to mention the rumors related to Bo He but felt it was unnecessary. The boss wouldn't have the patience to hear about the same employee who made no contributions all day and was nothing but trouble, so he held his tongue.

The earthquake's magnitude wasn't large, but due to the influence of the typhoon, it nearly triggered a tsunami. Fortunately, the epicenter wasn't where they were, so casualties were low. The TV station quickly reported it, and the higher-ups also sent people down. Qin Chuan and his group had no desire to stay and join the commotion, adding to the local burden, so they took a flight back to their home city on the day transportation was restored.

The team-building, of course, could not continue. Although no one was injured, everyone was more or less shaken. Qin Chuan was not an unreasonable boss, so he simply gave the entire company a three-day holiday to let everyone readjust.

Everyone took their vacation and calmed their nerves as they should, and Bo He, naturally, had no opportunity to learn of these rumors.

On Qin Chuan's side, however, it could be considered a blessing in disguise.

Although he couldn't resist his mysophobia and had to take a shower the day he returned, causing his injured leg to accidentally get wet and become infected the next day, his relationship with Wei Feizhou, on the other hand, had broken new ground and eased thanks to their shared experience of hardship.

Old Wei was no longer so stern with him, and the two could now sit down and chat for a bit. The matter of their collaboration thus got off to a good start.

However, Qin Chuan still felt something was missing.

On the first day of his injury, old friends, subordinates, and business partners who heard the news sent their regards via phone calls, text messages, or emails.

On the second day of his injury, which was also the first day of the holiday, Qin Chuan, firm of will despite his physical disability, handled more than half of the mountain of work in one go. He received a call from his 'bad friend' Shen Rui, who asked him how the last 'surprise' felt and whether he wanted another party to celebrate his narrow escape from death. Qin Chuan couldn't even be bothered to speak; he rolled his eyes and hung up the phone directly.

Then, Boss Qin retrieved the surviving game client from his downloaded games folder, copied a new shortcut to the desktop, skillfully typed in his account and password, and clicked 'Login'.

The familiar background music began to play.

When Qin Chuan saw that familiar character appear on the game screen, he actually felt a trace of long-lost nostalgia.
