From this moment on, Qin Chuan started to seriously consider the feasibility of consulting an almanac for an auspicious day before going out for group activities in the future.
Although it was said that islands were windy and wavy in the summer, to also run into an earthquake could truly be called unfortunate.
This kind of natural disaster had happened countless times over Earth's billions of years, but everyone believed they would be the one to dodge all calamities, just as very few people would back out at the last minute before boarding a plane due to the possibility of a crash.
Life was nothing but one accident after another.
Right now, these sentimental reflections on life merely flashed through their minds like phantoms in a revolving lantern before the two of them quickly got up, hurrying to avoid the dangers that followed.
The shaking stopped quickly, but the crisis was far from over.
Along the way, the loose soil split open into fissures that went from thin to thick. The widest ones were a meter across, and while they could be crossed with a large stride, it was still terrifying.
Not to mention the rocks, large and small with sharp edges, that were still continuously falling down.
Fortunately, the mountain wasn't too high, the path wasn't too steep, and the earthquake wasn't too severe.
At the very least, it hadn't reached the point of landslides and fissures tearing the earth apart.
Bo He and Qin Chuan made it to the foot of the mountain shaken but unscathed, just as they were about to reach the rest stop closest to the hotel.
But the path was blocked.
The days of heavy rain, combined with the earthquake just now, had caused a landslide on the nearby mountain. A large area had collapsed, not only crushing the trees on the side but also blocking the path completely.
It wasn't that they couldn't get through if they really had to, but the sky was gloomy and the lighting was poor. They were both a complete mess, and if they tried to push aside the tangled branches or climb over the rocks, they would inevitably get injured again.
More importantly, someone was shouting for help.
Qin Chuan was about to say something, but Bo He had already started following the source of the voice, so he had no choice but to follow.
The voice was coming from halfway down the slope below the mountain path.
Three figures were faintly visible, and the voice shouting for help was quite familiar.
As Qin Chuan leaned forward to look, the other person happened to look up.
Their eyes met, clearly illuminated by a flash of lightning on the gloomy day.
Qin Chuan thought to himself, Well, well, isn't that Old Wei?
Wei Feizhou thought to himself, Why is it this guy? What an ill-fated connection.
Bo He said to Qin Chuan, "Should we go down and find them?"
Qin Chuan frowned at her recklessness.
He took out his phone, wanting to call the hotel, but upon opening it, he saw there was no signal.
Bo He pointed down and said, "This way is blocked, and there are too many branches. We don't have any tools, so it's hard to get over. But there's a path down there that we can take to get around. The slope isn't steep, so it's a good chance to go down and check on them."
Qin Chuan was noncommittal. "Can you even get down there?"
Although it wasn't steep, there was still some height to it. It might be no problem for a man who exercised regularly, but for an ordinary woman, it would be difficult...
The thought had just formed in his mind when Bo He had already taken the first step, dashing down by stepping on the protruding rocks on the slope.
Her movements were extremely agile and fast. Before Qin Chuan could even stop her, she was already down below.
Qin Chuan: ...
Four people looked up at him in unison. Finding himself in a predicament he couldn't back out of, Qin Chuan had no choice but to follow down the slope.
His movements were much slower than Bo He's; he wasn't aiming for speed, only stability.
After all, having just escaped danger, wouldn't it be humiliating to fall here?
However, Bo He seemed to have misunderstood his actions and stood below, holding out a hand to him.
"Boss, here."
She all but shouted, "Don't be afraid, I'm ready to catch you."
Qin Chuan: ...
He swore he heard Wei Feizhou's stifled laugh.
Qin Chuan ignored Bo He's hand and, when he was just two steps from the flat ground, jumped straight down.
His heels jarred and it hurt a little, but the move was graceful enough for a textbook.
"What happened?" he asked Wei Feizhou.
There were two other people with Wei Feizhou.
One was sitting on the ground, unable to get up, his expression pained as he groaned softly. His pant leg was stained with blood, though it seemed the bleeding had stopped.
The other, dressed like a local, was examining the injured man's wound.
"We were planning to go up the mountain and saw a local selling specialty products at the foot, so we decided to buy some. Then the earthquake hit. I'm fine, but my assistant, Xiao Zheng, injured his leg. It's probably broken; he can't stand up. We don't know if he's hurt anywhere else, and our phones can't get a signal. We need to find someone to come in and carry him out quickly."
Wei Feizhou dusted himself off and explained the situation in a few brief sentences.
Beside them were two overturned bamboo baskets that had probably fallen with them. A few dark, roundish things had rolled out. Bo He picked one up and squeezed it; it felt like a chestnut.
Qin Chuan turned his head to look at the exit Bo He had pointed out earlier.
A healthy person would still have to put in some effort to get up there, let alone someone with a broken leg.
Xiao Zheng would definitely need to be carried out on a stretcher to make it up.
Qin Chuan said, "The earthquake didn't happen long ago. It'll definitely take the hotel a while to react and organize a rescue party to come into the mountains. Someone needs to go back and inform them first."
Wei Feizhou nodded and looked at the chestnut seller. "Then I'll have to trouble you. When you get back to the hotel, report my name: Wei Feizhou. Wei as in the state of Wei, Fei as in 'to fly,' and Zhou as in the Zhoushan Archipelago. Tell them there's an injured person here and that it's best to bring a stretcher. Please bring people here as quickly as you can, and there'll be a tip for you."
After saying this, he stuffed a few large bills into the man's hand.
The chestnut seller readily agreed and quickly strode away.
Seeing that Qin Chuan and Bo He were both alive and well, Wei Feizhou assumed they wouldn't stay behind, so he hadn't factored them in. To his surprise, even after the chestnut seller was far away, Qin Chuan was still standing there. Wei Feizhou couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you two leaving?"
Qin Chuan smiled at him. "I'm not comfortable leaving CEO Wei here alone. I'll stay and keep you company. Who knows, I might be able to lend a hand if something comes up."
Wei Feizhou's eyelid twitched. "That won't be necessary, but thank you for the kind thought. You two should hurry and leave, while there are no aftershocks."
Qin Chuan didn't answer immediately, instead turning to Bo He first. "You stay here for now, too. Wait for him to bring people back, then you can all return together."
The moment he saw Wei Feizhou, he realized this was the last and best chance to salvage their collaboration.
Qin Chuan wanted to stay, but there was no need for Bo He to.
But it was still a considerable distance from here back to the hotel. If he let Bo He go back with the chestnut seller, the two of them would have to travel that road alone.
Before he could be sure of the man's character, Qin Chuan felt it would be safer for Bo He to wait for the man to bring back the rescue party and then return with them.
In comparison, although their current location was downslope, it was already a fair distance from the landslide site. If another aftershock were to happen, while there were plenty of scattered rocks and fallen logs around, they were all at a lower elevation, so there was no great danger to their lives.
He had no interest in explaining his good intentions at length. These thoughts only circled in his mind, so what came out of his mouth sounded somewhat cold and harsh, delivered in a commanding tone.
"Okay."
Bo He didn't ask any questions, nor did she hesitate. Her reply was crisp and decisive, very much in the style of "Peppermint Tea."
The thought vanished as quickly as it came. Qin Chuan pushed it aside, found a relatively flat rock to sit on, and turned to Wei Feizhou with a smile like the big bad wolf.
"CEO Wei, since we have nothing else to do right now but sit here and wait for the rescue team, why don't we have a chat?"
