Chapter 22 - Chapter 17 Part 1

Qin Chuan didn't think he would have a very good evaluation in Bo He's mind.

He was even mentally prepared to hear all sorts of negative words and curses directed at his family from her.

Then again, even if Bo He was scheming, crafty, insidious, and cunning, she would never have guessed that the girl thousands of miles away, who claimed to be a first-year high school student in Nine Heavens and was a noob who couldn't survive five minutes in the stimulating battlefield, would actually be her big boss.

“Our big boss... is indeed quite difficult to talk to...”

On the other end of the game, Bo He was completely unguarded with her little apprentice, speaking slowly and casually as if in an idle chat.

As expected.

Qin Chuan thought to himself, "Here it comes, here it comes," and pricked up his ears.

“He doesn't like to talk, is quite self-righteous, and thinks all the women in the world should like him. Last time, I accidentally walked into the wrong room, and before I could even explain, he ridiculed me thoroughly, saying I was a toad lusting after a swan's flesh.”

There wasn't much resentment in Bo He's tone, just a mix of emotion and amusement.

The battle wasn't over yet. One was spectating, the other was fighting alone deep in enemy territory. In the gaps between speaking, she had already eliminated three enemies.

But they were all bots deployed by the system, so it wasn't difficult.

Qin Chuan: Do you still want to find a chance to explain?

Bo He said nonchalantly, “There's no need, right? That kind of big boss has his own set of standards. No matter how much I explain, it might not improve his impression of me and could even make it worse. Besides, I won't be getting a promotion anytime soon, so there's even less need to hang around in front of him. Rather than rushing to make amends and flatter him, it's better to do my job well first and gain more experience.”

Qin Chuan: Maybe you should also reflect on your own part in those misunderstandings.

Bo He chuckled. “You're right. The big boss has been put on a pedestal since he was a child, so he must be surrounded by many women. From his perspective, it's not surprising he thinks I have ulterior motives. Maybe in his eyes, this toad is still restlessly trying to climb up, wanting to get back to the CEO's office to gain favor by proximity!”

Qin Chuan had indeed thought so, but hearing it from her mouth, why did it sound so awkward and sarcastic?

It seems your resentment for your big boss runs deep. Qin Chuan typed out another line.

Bo He quickly replied, “I wouldn't call it resentment. I lack work experience and was careless, giving him something to hold against me. It's no wonder his impression is bad. Actually, our big boss isn't without his good points.”

Just as she finished speaking, gunshots rang out from behind.

Even with Bo He's superb skills, with all three of her squad mates dead, she could only temporarily hold her fire and go silent, concentrating on listening to the sounds around her as enemies closed in from all four sides.

Qin Chuan was actually quite curious what good points she would mention, but he couldn't appear too eager.

Otherwise, a teenage girl prying so deeply into her game master's big boss would be an inescapable bug.

The situation that followed also left him no time to ask in detail.

On the vast fields, gunshots rose and fell. Qin Chuan could only judge the enemies' approximate locations from the directional indicators on the screen, but his spectator view could only follow Bo He's movements. Before Bo He fired, he couldn't even see where the enemies were hiding.

Maybe behind a tree, maybe behind a rock, and there were also some moving in the grass wearing ghillie suits.

Bo He was also lying prone on the ground, motionless.

She had just fired a shot, hitting the head of an enemy behind a rock, but the other party obviously had a teammate nearby reviving them, because Qin Chuan hadn't seen the notification that the person was eliminated.

This was the final circle, and the poison fog was slowly encroaching inwards.

The number of survivors gradually decreased, from the initial one hundred to over fifty, then over thirty, then a dozen or so people.

Until now, only six people remained.

Among the initial one hundred people, there were definitely bots randomly deployed by the game officials to fill the numbers.

These robots were called 'bots' and could only shoot from a fixed position, acting woodenly and stiffly.

So, veteran players of the "stimulating battlefield" would sometimes jokingly tease a teammate who easily killed an enemy, saying they'd killed another bot.

But for Bo He to have survived to the final circle, her enemies were of course not just those slow-reacting bots, but also truly cunning players.

Qin Chuan watched with his own eyes as she spoke to him while nimbly maneuvering, without neglecting to keep her eyes and ears open to her surroundings, discovering hidden enemies at any moment, taking on three at once, and sweeping through them all.

When the game reached this stage, it was the most thrilling moment.

Bo He didn't speak again, presumably needing to focus her attention to react in time.

She lay prone in the grass, switched to an 8x scope, and aimed into the distance.

Mountains, trees, grass, and rocks.

A head poked out!

Qin Chuan subconsciously started to type a reminder to her.

But Bo He's movements were faster than his; the bullet had already flown from the barrel.

The notification that the enemy player was eliminated lit up.

Nice!

Qin Chuan picked up the beer beside him and took a big gulp.

This is the charm of competitive gaming.

You don't know who your opponent is, where they are, or how good their aim is, and you also don't know when a hidden enemy will emerge to take a cheap shot.

Until the very last moment, victory and defeat are not set in stone; the outcome is undecided.

In human blood flows the beastly genes of ancient times—the strong preying on the weak, the hunt and the chase—but in an era of peace, besides going to war, what chance does an ordinary person have to participate in a life-or-death struggle, let alone handle a gun?

Games thus become the best battlefield.

Including Bo He, there were five survivors left.

Gunshots came from elsewhere, suddenly landing on Bo He!

Bo He's health bar instantly dropped by more than half.

She didn't dare stand up, otherwise she would immediately become a target from all directions. She could only move bit by bit through the grass, moving away from the source of the gunfire to get behind a rock.

“Did you see where the enemy is?” Bo He asked over voice chat.

Qin Chuan hesitated for a moment, then typed: I didn't see either.

Bo He raced against time, using a first-aid kit to heal and opening her inventory.

“My level 3 helmet is gone,” she said.

Qin Chuan reminded her: There might be enemies behind you.

There was only one rock.

Bo He used it to shield herself from the enemy in front, which meant she had no cover from behind.

If someone rushed her from behind right now, she could only die on the spot.

To have fought this far, it would be a pity to fall at the last hurdle.

Bo He gave a soft 'mm'.
