Chapter 51 - Chapter 50 Part 1

Yesi's devilish training was not in vain. The simulation room with the damage threshold removed had an extremely high degree of realism. Fu Luo had already gotten used to the daily routine of dying and coming back to life, no longer making a fuss like when she first enlisted.

She put away the reader, switched the entire monitoring system, and stared at the coordinates on the image, saying steadily, "Estimate the coordinates, direction, and magnitude of the abnormal visitors."

While the coordinates were jumping, Fu Luo connected to the patrol ships from various departments cruising outside: "Attention all departments, an unknown fleet is approaching the headquarters defense perimeter. Please check if there are any gaps in the fortress defense system in the third and fourth districts of the Second Department..."

Before she could finish, she was suddenly interrupted by a sharp alarm, indicating that the system had determined the other party was no longer an uninvited guest, but an enemy attack!

Fu Luo dared not hesitate and directly opened the space fortress public broadcast channel: "The third monitoring room of the Second Department has uploaded an enemy attack alert. The enemy vanguard has reached a distance of about 56 firing range units from our fortress. I repeat..."

Almost simultaneously, in the lower right corner of the screen in front of her, the alarm information from other monitoring rooms of the fortress popped up one after another like website pop-ups.

Enemy attack information is usually displayed in eye-catching red. The entire screen quickly turned into a sea of red, shockingly reminiscent of a hemorrhage.

Yang Ning's voice came through the in-ear communicator: "On-duty personnel at the General Staff Office, return to the ship immediately and gather in the central conference room at once!"

Fu Luo ran out quickly.

The Earth's space fortress was usually not as impersonal as those in other star systems. Although the off-duty soldiers were not noisy, they were all young people. It was common to see them chatting in groups of three or five. The scene of a artillery battalion commander blocking the doorway a few days ago, insisting on sending flowers to the quartermaster, was still being gossiped about by everyone in the General Staff Office.

But at this moment, the entire fortress was filled with a murderous atmosphere.

Apart from the sound of footsteps, the friction of clothing, and the incessant alarm in the corridors, there was nothing else.

At this time, in this place, why would there be an enemy attack?

The people from the other star system? With so many of their forces tied up on Jupiter, how could they have time to return?

Questions popped up one after another in Fu Luo's mind. She vaguely realized that something big seemed to have really happened this time.

In the midst of her unease, Fu Luo accidentally bumped into someone at the corner. The other person grabbed her arm, fingers hard and powerful, and a familiar voice tinged with reproach said, "Don't panic."

Fu Luo was stunned: "Colonel Yang."

Yang Ning was a well-known germaphobe. He had probably just finished showering, his hair slightly fluffy and damp, seemingly not fully blown dry yet. Surprisingly, a button on his cuff was not fastened.

Yang Ning shushed, pressing two fingers to his own ear, listening to orders from his superiors while striding into the General Staff Office conference room: "Open all communication channels, take stock of the status of ships in port in 90 seconds, check the fortress defense system, and preheat the long-range missile system."

The General Staff Office was busy but orderly, immediately executing the orders. Fu Luo was also accustomed to the pace here. As soon as Yang Ning spoke, she immediately stood at her post.

"From now on, the Second Department's General Staff Office will serve as the overall command center for this battle." Yang Ning spared a hand to fasten his cuff button and said briefly, "Attention all personnel, prepare for combat."

Fu Luo: "Report, the other party has entered 45 times the firing range unit. Should we warn them?"

"No warning," Yang Ning said decisively. "Calibrate the range. After preheating is complete in half a minute, launch the first batch of missiles directly."

The order given to him by Major General Chen was "the safety of the fortress is the top priority". Now that the fortress was in a level one combat readiness state, visibility was within 30 firing range units, and a detection range of 120 units was acceptable. The other party, knowing full well that a battle was going on here, still dared to charge forward so aggressively. If they weren't looking for trouble, then most likely they had ill intentions.

Fu Luo skillfully entered the launch command, firing the first missile salvo of the entire Chinese fortress.

"Record the first wave of attack data and prepare for the second wave of missile attacks."

Fu Luo: "Yes."

However, when the hit rate of the first wave of attacks came out, Fu Luo was stunned.

The number kept climbing, quickly exceeding 70%, and then without slowing down, it surpassed 80%... heading straight for 90%.

In the end, when Fu Luo was already completely flustered, it stopped at 99.75%.

Almost all hits, but... how, how is this possible?!

Long-range precision guidance in space battles had always been jokingly referred to by everyone as "hitting a general's head with a green brick from a hundred paces away", showing that it was not very "precise".

Although the system would predict the other party's travel path, their warships were not stupid either. No one would foolishly stay there and let the other party shoot them, not to mention there were also anti-missile defense systems.

Even the densest missiles encountering the worst pilots could not possibly all hit. Generally speaking, in space wars, at this range, the average hit rate of long-range missiles was only around 35%. Even the highest in history had never exceeded 40%.

Fu Luo's first reaction was: "Retest."

"No." Someone suddenly interjected behind her.

Fu Luo instinctively stiffened her back and automatically gave way half a step. Yesi, who had entered at some point, was leaning over her shoulder, staring intently at the statistical data of the first wave of attacks.

After a while, the blond man muttered in a low voice, "Space pirate group."

Fu Luo didn't react for a moment: "Wha..."

But Yang Ning was shocked and abruptly turned his head.

"That's right, space pirates." Yesi repeated calmly, "Colonel Yang, you'd better pay attention to the stealth warships in the diagonal area."

For some unknown reason, Yang Ning, who was always cautious, actually believed his judgment at once: "Suspend the attack and initiate a full scan."

The full scan immediately entered the process. The scanning process was very slow - this was just like when personal terminals scan for viruses, they usually only choose "quick scan" instead of "full scan".

"Your military's defense system needs an upgrade," Yesi unceremoniously pushed Fu Luo aside, "Little girl, give me some room - preheat the second wave of missiles, don't aim, select manual input coordinates."

Yesi usually appeared out of nowhere in various combat departments, and his authority seemed very high. But no one, including Fu Luo, was clear about what exactly he did.

Fu Luo subconsciously glanced back at Yang Ning.

Yang Ning didn't hesitate at all: "Do as he says."

Yesi grinned, teeth showing: "You actually dare to trust me?"

Yang Ning's expression was cold and stern: "I will submit a supplementary request to the commander later."

Yesi wasted no more time. In a flash, he opened the manual aiming panel and almost without hesitation, entered a dazzling string of coordinates. As soon as the last character was entered, he quickly launched the second wave of missile attacks.

Medium-range missiles!

This time, the medium-range missiles shot out at an unimaginable firing angle, heading in an unimaginable direction.

The moment the missiles launched, the Disciplinary Control Committee inside the space fortress immediately intervened to question: "The person in charge of the Second Department's General Staff Office, report your number and please explain the reason for the missile launch just now!"

Because the direction Yesi fired the missiles in was very unusual - it was the direction of the Russian military fortress.

Among the Earth Allied Forces' space systems, there were three major combat forces - North America, Russia and China. Although the newly deployed Chinese fortress and the Russian military fortress were not adjacent, they were relatively close, with a dead angle in between that was within the range of both sides.

In the early stages of the new deployment, it was known as the "insurmountable security zone".

Unless... Russia had betrayed Earth, or they had already been completely wiped out.

Fu Luo held her breath.

Disciplinary Control Committee: "Repeat, the Second Department's General Staff..."

Just then, the hit rate statistics for the second wave of missiles suddenly started to rise, jumping from 0 to 5% in an instant, finally stopping at the 25% line.

What did the missiles hit? Were there really stealth warships in that area?

Only then did Yang Ning look away from the screen and say in a deep voice to the Disciplinary Control Committee, "Number s2t05, Colonel Yang Ning. Suspected stealth warships invading the area. Over."

That's right, Fu Luo remembered now that she had read records about space pirate groups before, but unfortunately there was too little existing literature and she could only find some clues from bits and pieces.

It was said their usual trick was to use a large number of empty shell warships as a cover to conceal small, fast, and extremely lethal stealth warships to outflank. And the overly high hit rate of the first wave of long-range attacks was precisely evidence of empty shell warships!

But who exactly was Yesi?

How could he be so amazing, able to determine the enemy's origin and direction of travel just based on a statistical figure?

Before Fu Luo could admire him a little, she noticed that Yesi's face had changed.

"No... 25%, it can't be that high."

Fu Luo didn't understand what was wrong with a high hit rate. Besides, medium-range missiles were vastly different from long-range ones. 25% really wasn't a very high number.

However, as the commander, Yang Ning understood. Staring at the comprehensive scanning system that hadn't had time to unfold yet, he pressed his ear and said softly to the other end of the communicator at the main command center, "Chief, we may be surrounded."

Fu Luo: "..."

No, Colonel, could you not sound as calm as if you're saying "this dumpling might be filled with fennel"?

The General Staff Office was dead silent, as if a string was about to snap.
