The Age of the Heroes

Chapter 14 - Chapter 13 Part 2

The two worked on the filing in relative silence. Fu Luo helped her finish more than half of it before leaving without much energy.

Fu Luo didn't have much contact with society and didn't care about big or small matters. She didn't have the habit of thinking deeply about many words and things. Her spiritual world had always been simple and shallow. She easily trusted others, and as long as someone was listed as a trusted person by her, no matter what that person said to her, she would not doubt it.

Now that she thought about it, Teacher Robin's reasons were so lame - "The company has never released this type of new product before", "This transformation is really important for us", "Can't find a suitable model for the time being", "Just do Uncle a favor"...

How could that be?

Of course, Fu Luo was not narcissistic enough to think she was anything special. It's just that when an elder who had always taken care of her, like Teacher Robin, said to her in that tone "do me a favor", there was no way she could refuse.

It turned out that all the coincidences were full of things that were not coincidences.

Fu Luo returned to her home and saw that the living room light was on. To her surprise, she saw Wang Yizheng and Wang Yacheng - that Wang Ergou still had the annoying expression of a creditor at the door.

But Wang Yizheng, for some reason, glanced at Fu Luo and quickly looked away, as if he didn't dare make eye contact with her.

Fu Luo: "Dad, Mom."

Fu Xiaoxin smiled at her strangely, "You're back? Not early ah, have you eaten?"

Fu Luo: "Mm."

Fu Xiaoxin: "Dad and Mom have something to discuss, can you take your brother to play for a while?"

"Come here." Fu Luo casually agreed. Anyway, she knew Wang Ergou was a bastard. If someone told him to go east, he had to go west and definitely wouldn't pay attention.

But today, Wang Ergou seemed to have taken the wrong medicine. As soon as she called, he immediately stood up, his face ghastly white from two pounds of foundation, with a kind of malicious smile like a weasel paying New Year's greetings to a chicken.

Fu Luo was a little surprised, but she was busy with her own thoughts and didn't notice. She just took Wang Yacheng to the study and politely poured him a drink, "Want to play on the computer?"

Actually, thinking back later, she really wasn't much of a big sister. There never seemed to be any effective communication between her and this only biological brother. Every time he came, Fu Luo would use this all-purpose phrase "Want to play on the computer?" to send him off.

If he nodded, then that was the best. Fu Luo could do her own thing while he played games, and the task of entertaining her brother could end in an atmosphere where the two of them acted as if the other didn't exist.

Unfortunately, this time Wang Ergou was very inconsiderate.

"No need to bother." Wang Yacheng raised his neck to a degree that could prevent cervical spondylosis and asked maliciously, "Do you know what my dad is here for?"

He was almost eager to throw the bad news on Fu Luo's head.

Fu Luo had some guesses in her heart. Being suddenly pointed out by him, even with the best temper, she was a little angry. She didn't make a sound, just stared at him silently.

Wang Yacheng didn't have much courage. There was one time when Fu Luo was really angry with him and made a move to hit him, he was even scared to tears.

As soon as he met his sister's gaze, his legs went a little soft first.

"They're discussing keeping you in the Ground Forces's little black room, being a mouthpiece every day." Wang Yacheng mustered up his courage and tried hard to be annoying. "Your mom also said she wants you to back down in the face of difficulties and retire yourself."

Fu Luo felt it was stupid to reason with this little brat. There were only two wise ways to deal with him, either ignore him or beat him up.

However, she was unusually unsettled that day and actually retorted on a whim.

"My transfer orders have already come down." Fu Luo said as calmly as possible, "Signed by General Lu, the Commander of the Space Combat Second Department. Do you want to see it?"

"When my dad was a soldier at the grassroots level, he was part of General Lu's inner circle. If he says so, you have to do whatever he wants you to do. If he wants you to be a mouthpiece, you be a mouthpiece. If he wants you to clean toilets, you have to clean toilets." Wang Yacheng's blood-red painted lips cracked into a smile. "Don't dream, you'll never make it to space."

Fu Luo's eyes suddenly widened, and because she had lost some weight in the past few days due to Teacher Robin's pressure, the blue veins at her temples almost jumped out.

Wang Yacheng was still inconsiderately babbling on, "Of course, I also saw the photos you took. It seems you're quite accepting of your new identity of making a living by selling your face. With this kind of self-awareness, I don't need to say much. Anyway, you..."

Fu Luo suddenly walked up to him.

The overhead light cast large shadows of her body, her sinewy fists clenched tightly at her sides.

Wang Yacheng involuntarily shrank back a little. For a moment, he had a terrifying illusion - it seemed like Fu Luo was about to hit him.

The fragile self-esteem of the pale-faced teenager forced him to raise his chin in a show of bravado, stubbornly retorting, "What's wrong? You get furious over a bit of truth? Tsk tsk, the best military school, the best department - you must have thought you were pretty amazing before, huh? How pitiful... ah!"

The fist carrying a gust of force landed next to his ear with a "woo" sound. For a moment, Wang Yacheng almost thought his head would be smashed by her. The fear and panic on the boy's face was exposed without any attempt to hide it.

The next moment, he discovered that the anticipated intense pain did not appear. Fu Luo's fist had grazed past his ear and landed on the back of the sofa.

Wang Yacheng, like a startled little mouse, hurriedly shrank into a corner of the sofa. He cautiously glanced at the sofa back and his lips instantly turned white with fright. There was a clear dent in the thick sofa back - the springs inside had been hit so hard that they couldn't bounce back.

Fu Luo had already picked up her coat and was walking out.

The moment she entered the living room, her parents, who had been talking in low voices, suddenly fell silent, looking at her with the same kind of look that tried to cover something up.

Fu Xiaoxin even showed a kind smile and asked her, "Huh? Luo Luo, where's your brother?"

Fu Luo looked into her eyes and saw a distinct evasiveness, just like Wang Yizheng.

"Playing on the computer," Fu Luo said expressionlessly.

"Oh," Fu Xiaoxin asked again, "So you are going to..."

"I have something to do, I'm going out for a bit." Fu Luo said quietly. She felt that something must have shown on her face, because Fu Xiaoxin looked even more worried.

"I'll be right back." Fu Luo stopped looking at her, put on her coat, turned around and left home.

She didn't know where she was going, nor where she could go.

Fu Luo wandered the streets for a long time before finally unable to resist squatting down in a corner of the street where no one was around. She sent a text message to Ye Wenlin, who was far away in the sky.

"Senior Brother, what will happen if I can't join the Space Forces?"

When Ye Wenlin received the message, he had just finished checking for the last time that all the functional components and weapons of the spacecraft were adequate.

He silently read the message, and for once didn't banter with Fu Luo.

This genius gazed at the eternally dark starry sea through a window less than a foot wide for a moment, but ultimately failed to find anything less oppressive in it.

A few minutes later, Fu Luo received his reply.

"It may not be unfortunate," Ye Wenlin said.

Fu Luo asked blankly, "Why?"

Ye Wenlin looked down at the sender on his phone screen - he had already removed Fu Luo's previous wanted criminal-like student ID photo from her contact avatar, replacing it with that silent profile shot in front of the tombstone. In the photo, the bright dawn made him feel particularly dazzling.

The man, usually flippant, stood with his back ramrod straight. After a moment, the corners of his mouth moved, sketching out a fleeting bitter smile.

"Because there is no dawn in space."
