Chapter 22 - Replaying a Board

The bright moon rose high, the tide surged in the sea, and the night on the island was cool and tranquil.

The fragrance of the Qionglin flowers wafted through the Liuli Heavenly Pavilion, and the fireflies scattered in dots.

"Swordmaster Ye, it's a fine night; it's a shame for you to sit alone." The young master in brocade clothes fanned himself and appeared behind Ye Jiuya with ease: "Why don't I accompany you to review the moves?"

In chess, there is replaying a board; in martial arts, there is replaying the moves.

It's not a complete replay, but rather an evolution of techniques based on that match. Various sects often use this as an opportunity to ponder and advance their skills after sparring.

If the spectator replays the moves, not only must they remember the techniques of both sides without the slightest error, but they must also have considerable insight.

"However, we should agree beforehand to only use sword techniques, not sword intent or energy - my cultivation is really shallow and can't withstand yours." Chen Weichen said with a smile.

Ye Jiuya glanced at him: "Alright."

They walked out of the sea of Qionglin flowers and came to the grass in front of the forest. The flower petals that had just fallen on their shoulders fluttered and fell as they walked.

Chen Weichen put away his fan and attacked Ye Jiuya.

Ye Jiuya blocked horizontally with his sword sheath.

The sword sheath and the fan handle collided. Chen Weichen slid to the side and suddenly opened his fan, aiming at Ye Jiuya's neck. When the sword sheath was about to strike upward to knock the fan out of his hand, he abruptly closed the fan and struck downward, borrowing the force to leap up. His figure was like a fluttering falling flower in the forest. In an instant, he opened the fan again and slashed it in reverse, the fan surface bringing out a whooshing white shadow.

Chen Weichen had no sword intent or sword energy, but as the moves flowed like clouds and water, although not reaching the level of the opening and closing of three thousand worlds, he indeed had the shadow of Lu Lanshan's "one transforms into myriad". Later, as he gradually entered the state, with the opening and closing of the folding fan, various changing moves emerged endlessly, unpredictable and ever-changing.

In this way, they dismantled the moves one by one, turning a sparring match that was originally completed in a few breaths into the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.

After the replay was completed, Chen Weichen opened his Huaiyou fan with a whoosh, looking at Ye Jiuya with a smile full of meaning, as if he could only see this one person in his eyes.

However, Ye Jiuya seemed not to see it and turned to the west: "Follow me."

Chen Weichen looked warily in the direction he was going: "I won't go."

Ye Jiuya gave him a light glance.

Chen Weichen retreated a few steps, looking very innocent.

Unfortunately, although Young Master Chen was very natural when replaying the moves just now, he was really no match for Ye Jiuya when actually facing him.

Ye Jiuya used his energy to head west, forcibly taking Chen Weichen along.

Young Master Chen struggled in vain, looking like a dispirited sick chicken being carried away to be chopped up.

To the west was Yanxia Heavenly Pavilion, where a huge stone mirror stood.

The Heart Tempering Mirror.

Next to it was a stone tablet recording the origin and use of the Heart Tempering Mirror.

It said that this mirror was a strange stone from the sea, discovered by the ancestors of the Sword Platform while guarding the Guixu realm, and was then moved to the island as the sect's treasure.

This mirror was originally called the Mirror of Observing the World. Standing in front of this mirror, one's soul would be completely exposed, revealing heart demons and obsessions. If it was an evil spirit or ghost, its true form would be fully revealed. Regardless of one's cultivation level, nothing could be concealed in the slightest.

Later, the people of the Sword Platform used it to help disciples resolve their heart demons and purify their state of mind, so they renamed it the Heart Tempering Mirror.

Chen Weichen was very apprehensive.

He really didn't know what he would look like reflected in the mirror.

In the end, like a condemned criminal about to be executed, he closed his eyes, steeled his heart, and stood in front of the mirror with Ye Jiuya.

Ye Jiuya beside him remained silent for a long time.

Chen Weichen was very afraid and didn't dare to open his eyes.

He now deeply regretted trying to get close to Ye Jiuya by dismantling moves with him.

In the way of the sword, the lower level uses force to wield the sword, the middle level uses technique to wield the sword, the upper level uses intent to wield the sword, and the highest level can use anything as a sword.

Using a folding fan to review sword moves was not something an ordinary person could do.

This cleverness, however, had only made the beauty suspicious again, leading him to be pushed in front of the demon-revealing mirror.

Finally, he heard Ye Jiuya say, "Open your eyes."

He carefully looked into the mirror.

Ye Jiuya was still Ye Jiuya, only with a faint cold sword energy floating around his body.

There was nothing in the mirror in front of Chen Weichen.

Only moonlight, the sea island, and the surging waves.

Young Master Chen was overjoyed: "Swordmaster Ye, now do you believe me? My background is clean and clear; I'm not a ghost, demon, or monster, just an ordinary person."

"Even cultivators have heart demons and obsessions that can be seen, but you don't have any," Ye Jiuya looked at him, "An ordinary person?"

"Perhaps it's because I knew from a young age that my lifespan is limited, so it's best to be carefree and enjoy the moment. I've let go of things and don't have any heart demons or obsessions," Chen Weichen winked at him, "Or perhaps it's because you are reflected there, Swordmaster Ye. Since the person in the mirror is the one in my heart, there's nothing else for it to show."

Although Chen Weichen had never concealed it in the past, this was the first time he confessed seriously.

Ye Jiuya frowned slightly, "The one in your heart?"

"Of course the one in my heart," Chen Weichen narrowed his eyes and smiled, "Otherwise, did you really want me to acknowledge you as my master?"

Ye Jiuya looked at himself in the mirror and said, "How much do you remember?"

Chen Weichen knew he was asking about his past life.

"I remember most of it," he deliberately emphasized at this moment, "Only the things related to Swordmaster Ye are particularly clear."

"He and I had no such entanglement." Ye Jiuya said lightly.

"I know," Chen Weichen's voice lowered a little, "He was naturally good, but I'm not him. If he was allowed to forget his feelings, then I should be allowed to have feelings. Ye Jiuya, I was born remembering you; I have remembered you for nineteen years. Since I've met you in this life, there's no escape."

"After his physical body disintegrated, his spirit and soul scattered. You happen to have a similar spiritual root to him, and you were born at that time. Perhaps some of his soul entered yours, so you remember." Ye Jiuya said, "Lord Canlong and I are going to open the Platform of Life and Creation to gather his soul. At that time, his soul in your body will leave, and you will be free from this trouble."

Chen Weichen laughed softly, "Longing is not really a trouble, but you yourself-"

He looked at the cold sword energy around Ye Jiuya in the mirror, "A persistent obsession is the real trouble."

After a long time, Ye Jiuya said, "I don't feel troubled."

Chen Weichen sighed, "Suit yourself. When he comes back to life, you will resolve your obsession, and I will die - I only hope that Swordmaster Ye will remember me a little when you think of it in the future. Then I can die without regret." Ye Jiuya looked at Chen Weichen, feeling that even though he thought he had seen through this person's background, there was still a layer of impenetrable fog, leaving him unable to tell if it was the truth.

In the end, he only said, "It is merely the extraction of a soul fragment; it will not harm your life."

Chen Weichen: "I don't believe it. It is my fate to die within a year, and it seems I am also fated to think of you until I die, never to be free."
