Chapter 28 - Chapter 20 Part 1

On the afternoon of the second day of the sports meet, You Keke ran to Class Three's area to find Ding Xian.

Ding Xian was sitting alone by the rostrum, her legs bent, an exercise book on her lap as she wrote a sports meet announcement draft to be submitted soon. You Keke sat down beside her and greeted her openly: “Hi~”

Ding Xian turned to look at her and quietly replied: “Hi~”

You Keke suddenly smiled and naturally started chatting with her: “Why are you sitting here alone? Where’s the girl who was with you that day?”

Ding Xian bit her pen, turned her head back, “They’re playing cards over there.”

You Keke followed her gaze. Kong Shadi was sitting with a group of boys, her arm draped over Song Ziqi’s shoulder, noisily playing cards with them. Across from her was Zhou Siyue, dressed in a red basketball uniform, revealing clean arms and calves, with smooth muscles and a mischievous smile.

They were playing 'Double Buckle'. Kong Shadi and Zhou Siyue were partners, constantly bickering and turning on each other while playing, resulting in several consecutive losses. Song Ziqi was having a blast on the side, even egging Kong Shadi on, “Good job.”

Kong Shadi was already in a bad mood, and losing several more rounds made her very annoyed: “Go away, aren't you annoying?”

Zhou Siyue, however, was very relaxed about winning and losing. His expression remained calm, and he occasionally joked with Song Ziqi.

Kong Shadi was a very competitive girl and had never lost so badly. She thought it must be because of Zhou Siyue's carefree attitude, so she impatiently said: “Zhou Siyue, can you play seriously?”

Zhou Siyue was unexpectedly targeted, but he wasn't angry. He looked at her calmly: “To be fair, if I played seriously, they wouldn’t stand a chance.”

Song Ziqi knew this.

Zhou Siyue rarely lost at cards. He could remember the cards, and by the end of the game, he knew exactly what cards each of the four players held.

Kong Shadi snorted, adopting a 'I don't believe you' attitude, "You can remember cards? Then show me."

Originally, this wasn't a big deal, but because he used to be naughty, he would play cards with Song Ziqi, Jiang Chen, and a group of others for no reason. Later, Jiang Chen kept losing money playing cards and started stealing money from home. His father, Father Jiang, caught him red-handed, only then realizing that the boy had lost money gambling and was using family money to cover his living expenses.

Later, Father Jiang found Father Zhou and subtly conveyed the matter. Zhou Siyue received a good beating that night.

He was made to promise not to play cards with Jiang Chen again. Later, they unintentionally learned that the boy could remember cards. Fearing overcorrection would lead the child astray and develop a gambling addiction, they told him he could play for entertainment occasionally, but he was not allowed to remember cards.

Some things, once you've tasted the sweetness, are irreversible.

Everyone has greed. The most terrifying thing is that such thoughts often appear when you are at your wits' end.

Just then, the broadcast sounded from the rostrum.

“Students participating in the 100-meter final, please report to the inspection point for registration.”

As soon as the announcement finished, the class monitor waved to the Class Three students below the rostrum, “Tell Zhou Siyue and Liu Xiaofeng to come down quickly.”

Song Ziqi hurriedly started collecting the cards, “Alright, alright, the 100-meter final is starting. Let's go accompany Siyue to the race first.”

Kong Shadi threw her cards down, “I’m not going.”

Zhou Siyue smiled, “Alright, stay wherever it’s cool.” After speaking, he glanced at Liu Xiaofeng, who was already waiting, and said: “Let's go.”

“Okay.”

The two walked towards the steps where Ding Xian and You Keke were sitting.

You Keke suddenly drew in her legs and tucked her hair behind her ear. Her entire back inexplicably tensed up. The atmosphere was strongly infectious, and even Ding Xian felt inexplicably nervous.

The sun was inexplicably dazzling. Ding Xian felt she could vaguely see some fine hairs on the boy's legs, and in a daze, she caught a scent of hormones.

“Wait a minute.”

As the two approached the steps, they heard Liu Xiaofeng call out.

Zhou Siyue: “What is it?”

“I’m going to see if my announcement draft is finished.”

“Announcement draft?”

Liu Xiaofeng scratched the back of his head a little unnaturally: “Yeah, your deskmate said she’d write an announcement draft for me. I’ll go remind her not to forget.”

“...”

“Wait for me here for a moment.”

Zhou Siyue impatiently said: “Hurry up.”

When Ding Xian saw Liu Xiaofeng walking over, Zhou Siyue was standing by the railing, turning his head to look at the track, presenting a shiny, sunlit back of his head.

“Is the announcement draft finished? Ding Xian, I’m going to compete now.”

Ding Xian came back to her senses: “Ah, almost, just one more sentence. I’ll go submit it later.”

Liu Xiaofeng was delighted, extremely happy: “Alright, thank you.” He then turned to leave but then asked again uncertainly: “Is it really for me?”

Ding Xian was puzzled, and nodded: “Yeah.”

'It was the old class monitor's assignment anyway.'

Liu Xiaofeng walked away happily.

Ding Xian was bewildered. She picked up a bottle of mineral water nearby and took a couple of sips. You Keke, observing shrewdly, looked at the energetic back of the young man, then at Ding Xian, and clicked her tongue twice, “That boy likes you, you know.”

Pfft—

Half a mouthful of water sprayed out of her mouth.

'Girl, can your mind hold anything else?'

You Keke chuckled as she looked at her, “Just by looking at you, I can tell you’ve never been in a relationship.”

Relationship?

Ding Xian hastily wiped the corner of her mouth with her hand, “Don't talk nonsense, I need to write my draft.”

You Keke laughed heartily: “You’re so innocent.”

Actually, You Keke didn't have an overbearing aura; on the contrary, this girl was easy to get along with, and it was no wonder boys liked her. Ding Xian, emotionally, didn't dislike You Keke.

However, some girls particularly disliked You Keke because of how quickly she changed boyfriends, and many girls even gave her a very unpleasant nickname behind her back.

But that still didn't prevent boys from liking You Keke.

You Keke was somewhat similar to Kong Shadi in certain aspects, but she lived more freely than Kong Shadi.

Precisely because You Keke was like this, Ding Xian felt even more restless.

For the past two nights, she had tossed and turned, unable to sleep, her mind filled with the matter of the love letter. At the time, she was just afraid that Zhou Siyue would see the torn love letter and misunderstand. She also couldn't explain it to You Keke, and she was even less willing to drag Shadi into this matter.

'Perhaps it would have been better to just hand the torn love letter directly to Zhou Siyue and say, 'I'm sorry, I accidentally tore it.''

'That would also be better than the current situation.'

'But what then?'

'Would Zhou Siyue think she did it on purpose or that she was truly 'careless'?'

Indeed, to hide her own little thoughts, she had done something most unethical to You Keke.

“Male students participating in the 100-meter final, please report to the inspection point for registration immediately. Those who have not yet submitted their announcement drafts, please submit them to the rostrum quickly.”

The broadcast repeated itself.

Ding Xian, startled as if from a dream, said to You Keke: “Wait for me, I’ll tell you when I get back after submitting the draft.”

You Keke nodded with a smile, patiently waiting for her: “Okay.”

...

On the sports field, Zhou Siyue and Liu Xiaofeng walked side by side, chatting intermittently.

Liu Xiaofeng had almost no presence in the class and usually had no chance to chat with a math genius like Zhou Siyue. He was quite in awe of him and brought up math within a couple of sentences.

Zhou Siyue was an easygoing person and could chat with anyone. Whatever Liu Xiaofeng said, he would answer.

Liu Xiaofeng seized the opportunity to learn from him: “I heard your competition class has already studied math up to the second semester of Senior Two?”

The sun was dazzling. Zhou Siyue walked leisurely, squinting his eyes, and casually hummed in response.

Liu Xiaofeng exclaimed, “Wow, how is it? Is Senior Two math particularly difficult? I feel like I can’t quite handle this semester’s lessons.”

Zhou Siyue turned his head and glanced at him, “Aren’t you decent at math?”

Liu Xiaofeng was stunned.

'When did the genius ever pay attention to me?'

It had only been less than a month since school started, and he actually knew that Liu Xiaofeng was decent at math. He couldn't help but scratch the back of his head, blushing slightly: “But I still feel like I’m a ways behind you.”

Zhou Siyue chuckled lightly, not taking the bait.

Liu Xiaofeng stammered: “Your... deskmate’s math also seems pretty good.”

“So-so,”

Zhou Siyue replied honestly.
