Chapter 111 Part 2

"What is it? Can't say in front of handsome Zhao Ke?" Gu Fei saw Li Yan standing at the station exit, and Gu Miao squatting next to him with a scowling face.

- Yeah, I just came out to him, I'll tell you about it later, go eat first

Gu Fei was extremely surprised. Jiang Cheng had only officially moved into the dorms for less than half a day, and he had already come out to his roommate? What kind of speed was this new era?

Gu Fei saw the station exit, leaned sideways against the wall, and planted a hard kiss towards the speaker, sending an audio clip.

Gu Fei ignored him and bent down with open arms.

Gu Miao hopped up from Li Yan's feet, hauling her skateboard as she rushed over and threw herself into his arms. The skateboard banged hard against his legs twice.

"Ow," Gu Fei sucked in a breath, hugging her, "How many times have I told you, put stuff down first when you're holding something."

Gu Miao hugged her skateboard in one arm and dragged him around by the other, heading for the exit.

"Where's Liu Fan?" Gu Fei asked Li Yan.

"In the car, no parking," Li Yan said. "Just parked at the curb so he didn't get out."

"Got it," Gu Fei acknowledged.

"How is it?" Li Yan looked at him.

"How's what?" Gu Fei glanced back.

"Jiang Cheng...their school," Li Yan said.

"Fancy university all right," Gu Fei said. "Really prestigious."

Li Yan laughed. "Okay then."

Walking from the open plaza in front of the station towards the curb, Gu Miao suddenly stopped.

"What is it?" Gu Fei also stopped.

Gu Miao turned back to look at the train station, then turned in a circle surveying their surroundings.

"You've been here before," Gu Fei squatted down. "This is the train station."

Gu Miao put down her skateboard and pushed off a couple times, slowly gliding forward.

Gu Fei followed behind her.

"She shouldn't cry out, right? She's been here herself," Li Yan said somewhat worriedly, watching her.

"Yeah," Gu Fei also glanced back at the station. "This is where she first ran into Jiang Cheng."

"Right," Li Yan watched Gu Miao's back and sighed. "Ah."

Liu Fan's car was parked a few meters in front of the bus stop. When Gu Miao got to the sign she paused for a bit again, then went forward and pulled open the car door to get in.

This was the place.

Gu Fei looked at the low stone platform next to the sign where he had first seen Jiang Cheng, when Jiang Cheng had sat with his back to him.

At the time, he didn't expect that he would have so many memories with this boy who had picked up Gu Miao and was sitting on the platform waiting for him, so he hadn't paid much attention to Jiang Cheng's appearance.

But he could still clearly remember Jiang Cheng turning around with a somewhat bewildered yet impatient expression.

Now this boy was at the prosperous campus of his university, several hours away by train.

Gu Fei felt extremely reluctant to part, but what left his mind blank even more was the feeling that no matter how reluctant he was, he didn't even dare reach out to grab and hold onto Jiang Cheng.

He got into Liu Fan's beat up little car and sat in the back with Gu Miao. Gu Miao leaned against him, staring out the window blankly.

This was a common state for her, when in the car she would keep staring outside.

Not out of curiosity, just to confirm that she was still in her own world.

Sometimes Gu Fei felt the little girl was amazing - it was like she had a radar to accurately determine the distance from the center of her little world.

Perhaps it was out of fear.

Just like when he was little, he could sense his dad's presence without needing to hear or see him. When his dad was still downstairs he would be gripped by extreme terror.

It was pretty incredible.

At dinner today, the whole gang managed to gather. They had all arrived at the private room early.

When Gu Fei got there they had already ordered.

"When are you reporting in, Da Fei?" Luo Yu poured him a drink.

"Tomorrow, I think," Gu Fei said. "Right?"

Luo Yu glanced at him. "Pay a little more attention to your own stuff, at least you got into a school."

"Mm," Gu Fei responded.

"So obedient today?" Chen Jie said with a smile.

"Still in a daze," Liu Fan said. "Just sent that guy back. He'll probably be disoriented for two or three days at least."

"Get lost," Gu Fei said.

"Let's eat, eat, eat!" Li Yan picked up his glass and clinked it on the table a few times. "To us bunch of guys finally having not just one, but two college students among us. Cheers!"

Gu Fei picked up his glass, clinked it, and drank.

Although he didn't talk much when hanging out with this group, he was never spaced out. These were friends he had known for years, and he was always relaxed around them.

But today felt a little different.

The people were the same, the atmosphere was still the same, but he just couldn't fully relax.

It was because of Jiang Cheng.

Not having Jiang Cheng by his side, not being able to turn and see Jiang Cheng like usual, felt very unfamiliar to him.

He didn't regret starting this relationship with Jiang Cheng, even though he had anticipated experiencing this longing. He didn't regret it one bit.

But enduring this feeling was not easy.

Jiang Cheng would give him occasional updates about life at school—he ate, went to the supermarket, met his roommates, they were all nice and didn't bother him. His roommates took him around campus, and he didn't get lost...

After sending Gu Miao home, Gu Fei watched her draw for a while before going to the rental apartment.

Tonight he would be home to have dinner with Gu Miao. He planned to stay there for the time being. People are different, he supposed. For him, when he wanted to be alone, being in a space devoid of anything to remind him of Jiang Cheng did nothing to soothe him. He needed to return to a space full of traces of Jiang Cheng, to be surrounded by signs of Jiang Cheng everywhere, in order to feel at peace.

Everything in the rental looked the same as always, as if to say that aside from some clothes and his keys, Jiang Cheng hadn't taken anything with him.

Standing in the living room now, he could almost convince himself that walking into the bedroom, he would see Jiang Cheng there.
