"Unexpected windfall?" Zhao Ke asked.
"Ah," Jiang Cheng grunted in acknowledgment. It really was quite unexpected.
"Not a small amount huh," Zhao Ke turned to look at him. "Crying from excitement."
Piss off.
Jiang Cheng looked back at him.
"Not from excitement?" Zhao Ke asked.
Jiang Cheng didn't reply.
"Before I came over, my sister stuffed 2,000 yuan into my bag," Zhao Ke continued playing his moronic Candy Crush. "She cried from excitement too."
Though Jiang Cheng didn't want to keep talking, he couldn't help laughing.
Zhao Ke started another round of furious clicking without saying anything else.
Jiang Cheng took out his phone and snapped a picture of the red envelope to send to Gu Fei.
- Thanks boyfriend
He didn't want to ask Gu Fei why he had given him money, nor did he want to be overly sentimental and say "I don't need money, why didn't you keep it for yourself". No matter Gu Fei's reasons for giving it to him, and regardless of whether he needed it or not, this money was like a little heater sitting in his heart.
Gu Fei was probably sleeping. He replied after a few minutes.
- Get some layered pork if you're craving it, don't hold back
- Mm, you're catching up on sleep right?
- Not really, drifting in and out. Kid behind me kept crying
- Poor thing
- You're at the dorm?
- Yeah, just me and Zhao Ke, the other two aren't here
- Oh?
- Oh my ass
- Got a good look at what he looks like?
- I forgot since you didn't mention it, I'll check in a bit
They chatted back and forth like this for over an hour until the crying child behind Gu Fei fell asleep and Jiang Cheng told him to go back to napping.
He leaned back in his chair and stretched lazily.
From now on, this is how it would be. Sending messages whenever they had time, and video chatting when they really couldn't stand it...
"Let's go out for a walk?" Zhao Ke finished his Candy Crush battle and stood up.
"Where to?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Only now did he get a good look at what Zhao Ke looked like. Not bad, not as handsome as Gu Fei kept grumbling, but just the kind of guy you'd glance at two or three times in a crowd.
Still not as good as Gu Fei.
"Around campus," Zhao Ke said, looking at his phone. "Check out the cafeteria, supermarket, cafe, library, what they're like."
Jiang Cheng didn't really feel like wandering around. His current mood meant he had no interest in such things. Plus he wasn't familiar with Zhao Ke at all, they had nothing to talk about. Two silent strangers wandering aimlessly around campus would be rather awkward.
"Let's go," Zhao Ke closed his computer and decisively walked out of the dorm.
"Hey!" Jiang Cheng called out, but got no response.
In the end he had no choice but to stand up, tidy his things, and head out.
"Let's find the cafeteria first," Zhao Ke said while looking at his phone. "We can go eat lunch there."
"Mm," Jiang Cheng had no appetite, and the mention of the cafeteria brought no pleasant associations in his current mood, but it was an important place after all, so looking around was fine.
"There are a lot of cafeterias," Zhao Ke said. "Let me see which is most convenient to get to."
"You..." Looking at his phone, Jiang Cheng saw he had actually saved a map of the school buildings labelled with what each one was. "You prepared this?"
"Mm, and all kinds of introductions, makes exploring easier with these on hand."
Jiang Cheng smiled. A Candy Crush player talking about exploring.
"Let's add each other," Zhao Ke waved his phone. "Makes it easier to keep in touch."
"Oh," Jiang Cheng took out his phone.
Sometimes, people often encounter unexpected surprises.
Both Jiang Cheng's lock screen and home screen were Gu Fei, something he had changed to last night without thinking much of it. Only now, with Gu Fei's face appearing on his phone repeatedly in front of Zhao Ke, did he realize he hadn't considered how to handle such awkward situations.
He glanced at Zhao Ke, who was also looking at him.
