Chapter 139

Chapter 107 Part 3

"Damn," Jiang Cheng froze as soon as he entered the school gate and saw the banners. Beside the main entrance, the display cabinet was also covered in red--banners and red lists were one thing, but the cabinet also had a huge photo of him inside, "Is that me?"

"Ah," Gu Fei laughed as soon as he saw it, "Yes, Jiang Cheng."

"Damn, is that the photo I submitted with my student ID, for the game? Any game photo would've worked! Why did they use this one," Jiang Cheng was instantly very unhappy, "So damn ugly!"

"Not ugly," Gu Fei quickly took out his phone and snapped a series of photos of the cabinet, "Very handsome, only the two of us can make ID photos look this good, no one else can."

"Shameless, complimenting others while praising yourself," Jiang Cheng gave him a look, then thought about it some more, still disgruntled, "Can I ask the school to change the photo? Use one from you?"

"Brother Cheng, since when were you this...vain?" Gu Fei couldn't stop laughing, "Everyone in No.4 knows you're handsome."

Jiang Cheng glared at him silently.

"Fine," Gu Fei said, "Let's go tell Old Xu, I'll just enlarge a photo of you and get it printed to give to the school, how's that?"

"Good." Jiang Cheng said.

Although it was still summer break, supplementary classes had started. From the school gate to Old Xu's office, Jiang Cheng received many compliments, praise, and stares.

It wasn't until this moment, when he took the admission notice from Old Xu's hands, that Jiang Cheng finally had a solid sense that he had really taken the gaokao.

"Let me see...good news! Congratulations on your admission to our university's Law School..." Gu Fei took the admission notice and read it carefully, "Law major, sounds really amazing, Brother Cheng."

"And it really is amazing!" Old Xu was somewhat emotional, "Here, Da Fei, take a photo of me and Jiang Cheng with my phone. Jiang Cheng, hold up your admission notice."

Although Jiang Cheng felt it looked rather silly to take a staged photo like this, he still stood next to Old Xu and held up the notice in front of him.

After fussing with his clothes for a while, Old Xu said: "Okay."

Gu Fei took the photo with Old Xu's phone.

"Teacher Xu, you should get a new phone," he said as he handed the phone back, "Photos from your phone look like they were taken with a landline."

"Always so chatty. I'm about to get a new phone anyway, this is a joyous occasion!" Old Xu thought for a moment, "Or you can take another one with your phone and send it to me."

"Ah..." Jiang Cheng sighed, and had no choice but to hold up the notice again with an awkward grin.

Back in the rental apartment with the admission notice, Jiang Cheng collapsed onto the bed and let out a breath, feeling like everything had finally settled down.

Gu Fei sat beside him with his admission notice, turning it this way and that, unable to put it down. Earlier he had fussed for a long time setting up props to take photos with a camera.

"Little bunny," Jiang Cheng patted his leg, "What on earth are you looking at?"

"Looking at how amazing my boyfriend is," Gu Fei said, "This notice from your R University just oozes prestige."

"Your boyfriend is right here," Jiang Cheng pointed at himself, "How about appreciating the real deal, isn't that better?"

Gu Fei put down the notice and turned to look at him. It was a good long while before he finally smiled: "Brother Cheng."

"Hmm?" Jiang Cheng nudged his leg.

"Have I told you before," Gu Fei said, "You're my pride."

Jiang Cheng stared at him for what felt like two full minutes before speaking: "Come here and let me bite you."

Gu Fei lay down next to him. Jiang Cheng turned over to hold him tightly, and very seriously bit down on his shoulder, using quite a bit of strength that even he could feel. Gu Fei gasped softly.

"Why don't I just give you a knife and let you slice me up, less painful than biting." Gu Fei said.

"You're my backbone." Jiang Cheng said.

Gu Fei's admission notice arrived a bit later. Jiang Cheng only had a few more days before he had to report for registration, and Old Xu finally called: "Your notice is here!"

Jiang Cheng also scrutinized Gu Fei's notice front and back, finally understanding why Gu Fei had stared at his notice for so long that day—it was addicting to go over something related to your boyfriend again and again.

"Chinese," Jiang Cheng held up his phone to photograph the notice, "Very nice, Teacher Gu."

"Li Yan said let's have dinner tomorrow," Gu Fei smiled, "He wanted to go out when the results came out but I didn't agree. Now the notices are here and you'll be leaving soon, so let's have dinner together?"

"Okay," Jiang Cheng felt rather complicated hearing about leaving, but he had already made up his mind, so he didn't dwell on it, "Let's eat, I feel like I haven't seen them in forever this summer."

"Seeing me is enough." Gu Fei said.

"Right." Jiang Cheng leaned in to kiss his nose.

This dinner doubled as celebrating both their admission notices and sending Jiang Cheng off.

Compared to the farewell dinner last time, dinner with Li Yan and the others didn't have any parting emotions at all, just eating, drinking, and boasting, leaving them fulfilled in body and spirit after the meal.

Li Yan and the others had even pitched in to buy Jiang Cheng a very nice luggage set as a gift, with a meticulously tied butterfly knot on top.

Dragging this new luggage back to the rental apartment, Jiang Cheng felt the turmoil of parting all over again.

"What to do?" He looked at Gu Fei.

"What do you mean?" Gu Fei was puzzled.

"I'm a bit...scared," Jiang Cheng held him, "I suddenly don't want to leave anymore."

"Then repeat a year," Gu Fei said, "How about neither progressing nor regressing for another year?"

"Get lost." Jiang Cheng clicked his tongue.

"Don't be scared," Gu Fei smiled and hugged him tightly, patting his back, "Brother Cheng is so amazing, nothing to fear. I'm still here, when you're scared just reach back and you can touch me."

"Mm." Jiang Cheng closed his eyes.

"And I'm going with you to send you off," Gu Fei said, "What are you afraid of? I can take care of your dorm mates first so you won't be scared."

"Psycho." Jiang Cheng had to laugh.

Gu Fei laughed along goofily with him.

Jiang Cheng rested his chin on Gu Fei's shoulder and laughed heartily until he felt his nose go sour. Before he realized it, tears had quietly rolled down his face.

Author's note: More tomorrow.

Also, don't compete over scores anymore everyone. I said this on Weibo before, but I'll say it again here - although it's not directly stated in the story, their background is in Northeast China. With that parameter, his score is very high. Scores differ greatly between provinces, so they must differ too. If I had set their background somewhere with high gaokao scores from the start, Jiang Cheng's score would still be top 10 in province. That's just the premise, so be good and listen to me - he'd be a top student anywhere.
