Picking Up Stars

Chapter 44 - Chapter 43

Qin Fang's grandfather's cemetery was far from the city.

When he was alive, he had chosen the location himself, selecting his own gravesite several years in advance, in a scenic spot with beautiful mountains and clear waters.

In recent years, Qin Fang wouldn't make plans to go with his father. If they happened to go together, they would, otherwise he would go on his own.

This year, Qin Fang once again didn't go with his father. He didn't leave very early, estimating that by this time his father had probably already left.

There were flowers in front of the tombstone, his father had indeed come.

Hua Tong bowed towards the tombstone. Qin Fang squatted down, placed the flowers in front of the tombstone as well, looked at the photo on the tombstone, and smiled. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket, wiped the photo, and then said, "Grandpa, Xingxing'er is here."

The old man in the photo was smiling very dashingly, an especially photogenic handsome old man.

"Did you miss me?" Qin Fang used the handkerchief to wipe the tombstone clean front and back, while saying, "I missed you too."

"Are you making money?" Qin Fang asked his grandfather with a smile, "An outstanding entrepreneur again?"

Hua Tong, hearing this, silently laughed behind him. Qin Fang's conversations with his grandfather were always very interesting.

Qin Fang would chat with his grandfather for a while, but not for too long. He had said before that if the old man could really hear him, he would worry if Qin Fang talked too much.

Hua Tong had accompanied him here many times and was very familiar with the routine.

Qin Fang said, "This year I met a new friend, I'll let you take a look if there's a chance. Meeting him was quite unexpected, and getting along until today is even more unexpected."

After finishing wiping the tombstone, Qin Fang folded the handkerchief inside out and put it back in his pocket.

He continued squatting and said, "My dad probably already told you, you have another grandson, three now. So the oldest is still the most favored, right? The second and third will never have the chance to enjoy the treatment I had back then, so they have to fight to be first in everything."

Hua Tong squatted down to help arrange the flowers, listening to Qin Fang talk to his grandfather.

As usual, Qin Fang didn't chat too much, resting for a while and talking for a while, for about half an hour. When he was about to leave, Qin Fang touched the tombstone and still smiled at the photo, "I'm leaving, if you miss me, come to my dreams."

Hua Tong bowed again and said, "We're leaving Grandpa, we'll come see you again next time!"

In earlier years, Qin Fang often secretly came by himself, taking a taxi over. He would sit in front of the tombstone, just like when his grandfather was still around and the two of them would quietly stay together.

Later when he grew older, he felt that state didn't make people feel at ease, so he didn't come often anymore. When he did come, he would bring Hua Tong, so it wouldn't look lonely, like he had brothers and friends.

On the drive back to the city, Hua Tong didn't say much, probably thinking Qin Fang was in a bad mood and afraid of annoying him.

Qin Fang asked him, "Where are you spending the New Year?"

Hua Tong said, "At my grandma's place, what about you?"

"Don't know yet, I'll see." Qin Fang said.

Hua Tong asked, "Come with me? The two of us can find an old house to stay in, or play cards with my brothers and sisters."

"No," Qin Fang smiled and said, "Your brothers and sisters don't want to play with us, how can you not realize that."

Hua Tong laughed a couple times, that was indeed the case.

His hometown brothers couldn't get along with them. Before, they felt the two of them didn't know anything and it was no fun to play with them. Later, they just got used to not playing together. Plus, Qin Fang didn't go there often and wasn't familiar with them.

Before getting out of the car, Hua Tong said to him, "Anyway, if you haven't figured out where to go, just find me."

"Got it." Qin Fang said.

Hua Tong waved his hand backwards, opened the door and jumped out of the car. Qin Fang returned to the old house in the suburbs.

The small building was still the same, it couldn't possibly change. As soon as Qin Fang opened the door, he saw the motorcycle inside. He took a photo and sent it to Xing Yan.

Xing Yan knew he went to the cemetery today and called him. Qin Fang answered.

"You're back?" Xing Yan asked on the phone.

Qin Fang sat on the sofa and replied, "Yeah, I'm back at my base."

From the other end of the phone, it was clear Xing Yan was outdoors. Qin Fang asked him, "Where are you?"

Xing Yan said, "At Wu-ge's place."

"Are you guys going out?" Qin Fang wrapped himself in his coat, leaned back on the sofa, closed his eyes, rubbed his nose and said, "It's too cold today."

"Not going out, I just came over to take a look." Xing Yan probably found a quieter place, the background noise wasn't as loud anymore.

When the two of them talked on the phone, it was still pretty much the same as before, not much change. But Qin Fang really liked talking to Xing Yan. Hearing Xing Yan's voice made him feel like his heart was being held, it was relaxing.

Xing Yan asked Qin Fang about the weather here. Qin Fang said, "It snowed a bit last night, today is especially, especially, especially cold. Wiping my grandpa's tombstone, before I finished wiping I felt like my fingers were going to freeze and break off."

Xing Yan said, "You should try not to go out by yourself recently."

"I know," Qin Fang smiled silently, "Okay."

There wasn't really much to say on the phone. They had to message each other every day now, how could there be that much to talk about.

After hanging up, Qin Fang went upstairs to tidy up the room he would be staying in that night. Last winter he had stayed here too. While tidying up, he remembered last time when Xing Yan came over and couldn't get the blanket, nearly freezing for half the night.

Thinking about it, in just two months' time, their relationship had changed quite a lot.

He had left his phone downstairs after finishing the call. Qin Fang only went downstairs after tidying up.

He had come over on short notice, if he wanted to stay longer he still needed to go back to the Jian family to get some things. There were two messages on his phone. Qin Fang opened them to take a look.

The first was a photo. Xing Yan had probably casually taken a picture of the sky, a very clear and transparent blue color. On the edge of the photo, half of a lush green tree was squeezed in.

It looked very lively and warm.

The second was something Xing Yan said. Qin Fang lightly tapped on that message, imagining Xing Yan speaking without expression, but what he said wasn't necessarily unmoving.

—Come, little cutie, Yan-ge will take you to see the sky

Qin Fang stared at that message. There were many moments when Qin Fang felt fortunate to know this person. The feeling from the earlier phone call returned, as if Qin Fang's heart, originally slightly chilled in the cold wind, was being held in Xing Yan's warm palm, then gently clenched, transmitting warmth tightly and fully.

Qin Fang replied to him: You really make one's heart flutter.

Xing Yan said: I know

Qin Fang looked at these two words and laughed again, this person was too narcissistic.

Xing Yan later sent Qin Fang another message, with only one word: Come

Qin Fang hadn't slept well last night and had gotten up early this morning. Originally, he should have gone to the Jian family to pack his things and then returned to the small building to sleep early, sleeping until late morning the next day.

But the thing young men of this age lack the least is impulse.

When Qin Fang landed at the airport, it wasn't even dark yet. He had slept for three hours on the plane and felt very energetic after getting off. He only had a backpack with him, with so few things it was heartbreaking.

Before falling asleep on the plane, Qin Fang had actually been thinking back along the timeline of his and Xing Yan's acquaintance. Thinking about the time they had known each other, he was always easily led by Xing Yan. He couldn't resist Xing Yan's temptations.

When Xing Yan wanted to hook him, he simply couldn't resist.

It was quite embarrassing to think about these things, Qin Fang thought with a smile.

Han Xiaogong was the first to know that Qin Fang had arrived. It was quite a coincidence. Before Qin Fang had even left the airport, Han Xiaogong sent him a message, originally just wanting to chat casually.

He asked Qin Fang what he was doing. Qin Fang took a photo of the airport and sent it to him.

Han Xiaogong immediately asked: You're here?

Qin Fang: Ah.

Han Xiaogong was very surprised: I really didn't hear that you were coming. Is Yan-ge picking you up?

Qin Fang said: Sudden decision.

Han Xiaogong: Yan-ge doesn't know?

Qin Fang replied: Probably.

Han Xiaogong directly sent a location, then called and asked Qin Fang, "Have you called a car? Just come to this address. It's just me here today. Come, I'll wait for you."

Qin Fang said while walking, "I can find it."

Han Xiaogong said, "That's good. Buy a case of water on your way back."

Qin Fang said okay with a laugh.

After Xing Yan sent Qin Fang that "come", the two of them didn't contact each other for the rest of the afternoon. This person didn't return until the evening when it was already completely dark, almost nine o'clock.

The iron gate of the small courtyard was pushed open. The sound of the door lock and door colliding, the sound of metal impact, sounded very familiar.

Only Han Xiaogong's room had the lights on. The other rooms were all pitch black. Si Tu hadn't been around the past two days, and Zhou Siming probably hadn't come back. After entering, Xing Yan didn't turn on the lights and went straight to his own room.

Compared to summer, the temperature here now wasn't excessively high, but after all, coming from the north, it still felt a bit stuffy, and the skin surface was always slightly hot.

Xing Yan pushed open the door to his bedroom and walked in. Before his hand could touch the switch, he was suddenly grabbed around the neck from behind.

Xing Yan's arm was originally raised, but it was just for a moment. His bent arm still stopped and didn't exert force backwards.

Xing Yan stood in place, tilted his head slightly, and asked, "What are you robbing?"

The person behind him got closer and said in a low voice, "...I'll rob whatever you give."

Xing Yan chuckled and said, "Then I won't give anything."

The other party then got even closer. In the darkness, he bit Xing Yan's ear, biting his earlobe. There was a slight stinging sensation.

The darkness was like a fig leaf, covering the young man's surging thoughts, his timidity and embarrassment.

Qin Fang hugged the person, biting his ear lightly and deeply. Xing Yan reached back and touched the back of his head, which was a bit prickly. Qin Fang's breath was all sprayed on that small piece of Xing Yan's ear, very hot and humid.

Of course, Xing Yan wasn't the type to just stand there and let someone bite him. So at a moment when Qin Fang was off guard, Xing Yan suddenly exerted force, slamming Qin Fang against the wall, while his arm restrained him. Qin Fang's head pressed against the switch.

The darkness disappeared in an instant, and the brightness in front of their eyes made their eyes uncomfortable.

Xing Yan covered Qin Fang's eyes with one hand and fiercely leaned in--

"...I still can't breathe." Qin Fang said, slightly panting a few minutes later.

Xing Yan took away the hand covering his eyes. The palm was already damp. The kiss had made them both sweat.

"I thought you would arrive tomorrow at the earliest." Xing Yan said, looking into Qin Fang's eyes.

Qin Fang smiled and said, "I told you, you make my heart flutter."

The distance between the two was still very close. At this distance, it was very difficult to stay calm. After the light was turned on, it made one feel a bit hallucinatory and nervous.

Qin Fang took a deep breath and tapped his head against the wall. After a light "click", the room went dark again. It wasn't so nerve-wracking when you couldn't see.

He and Xing Yan now had no physical contact. Before his eyes adapted to the darkness, he temporarily couldn't see, but he knew Xing Yan was there, and very close. This ungraspable feeling made his skin excited. He didn't know where the next landing point would be. All his nerves were taut.

So when Xing Yan raised his hand to hug him, Qin Fang even felt his skin go numb, as if the boot he had been waiting for had finally hit the ground.

Xing Yan gave him a very powerful hug, patting his back with one hand.

Even though it was originally dark in front of his eyes, Qin Fang still closed his eyes and asked, "Are you trying to comfort me?"

Xing Yan's voice was slightly panting, sounding a bit shaky, and said in a position very close to his ear, "You also make me especially... especially moved."
