Picking Up Stars

Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

The high-speed train arrived at the station at 1 AM. Before that, they had to stay on the train, either sitting, sleeping, or standing in the rest area. The more than ten hours were indeed difficult to endure. In the last few hours, Qin Fang felt uncomfortable no matter how he sat, as if all the bones in his body were about to gather into a pile.

During the day it was still okay, but at night many people were asleep. The train was about to reach its final destination, and less than half of the passengers remained. The carriage they were in was particularly empty, with only a dozen or so people visible at a glance, almost all of them asleep.

The train was very quiet, even a bit stuffy. Nothing could be seen outside the window, only reflections on the glass.

Qin Fang turned his head and asked Xing Yan, "Are you all going home tonight? I'll book a room."

Xing Yan didn't let him book, and said with his eyes closed, "No need."

"I won't go back with you tonight, Yan-ge, it's not very convenient." Qin Fang didn't want to disturb Xing Yan's family. Tonight he planned to find a random place to sleep, and tomorrow he intended to find a hotel he liked to settle in.

Xing Yan remained in the same state and said in a low voice, "No need to book."

Qin Fang was not very willing to go to other people's homes, which might be related to himself. Qin Fang always felt like an outsider in the Jian family, so he never liked to stay at other people's homes, regardless of whether the other party was warm or politely distant. The feeling of being an "outsider" would make him a little irritated.

Moreover, going directly to someone's home in the middle of the night without bringing anything was not very polite.

Qin Fang smiled and said to Xing Yan, "No thanks Yan-ge, I'll..."

Before he finished speaking, Xing Yan interrupted him, "Shh..."

"Stop." Xing Yan opened his eyes and looked at Qin Fang, "You, just come with me."

Xing Yan's signature cold look appeared on his face again. Qin Fang didn't say anything more. He hesitated for a few seconds and finally nodded, "Okay."

The train arrived at the station twenty minutes earlier than expected, slowly sliding onto the platform before 1 AM. Qin Fang walked out of the carriage with his backpack. The temperature outside was instantly a dozen degrees higher. It felt like stepping out of a boundary, surrounded by stagnant, hot air mixed with the unique messy smell of the train station.

But it felt so comfortable to be able to stretch out.

For Qin Fang, this was an unfamiliar city. The only thing he was familiar with in this city was the person in front of him.

When Xing Yan looked back at him, Qin Fang smiled at him handsomely. This feeling was fresh and relaxed.

The three people from the first-class carriage also got off. Si Tu had a mask on his face, Zhou Siming had a sleepy look with his backpack, and Han Xiaogong's hair was casually tied up, looking a bit messy, but with a lazy and casual aura.

"My tendons are about to gather together," Han Xiaogong stretched his neck with one hand, then looked around and murmured, "Old place, we meet again."

Xing Yan also had his backpack on his back. Looking at his phone, he said to them, "Let's go out, I called a car."

As they walked towards the exit, Si Tu took the initiative to talk to Qin Fang and asked, "It must be quite tiring to sit on the train for so long, right?"

Qin Fang pursed his lips and said, "It's okay, sleeping a few times is about right."

Si Tu smiled slightly and said to him, "It's very beautiful here."

Qin Fang hadn't even left the train station yet and had no concept of whether it was beautiful or not. He nodded, "I've heard about it."

Si Tu said to him again, "Welcome here."

Xing Yan called a business car. Qin Fang followed them into the car without asking where they were ultimately going. There were few cars on the road in the city after midnight, making it seem empty. The car drove for about half an hour, as if they had come to the other side of the suburbs from the train station.

The driver spoke with a bit of an accent and asked Xing Yan, "We're almost there, should I just drive to the location you set?"

Xing Yan answered him, "Yes, just follow the navigation."

"Are you college students going home for vacation?" The driver was also bored driving at night and tried to chat with them.

Han Xiaogong replied, "Yeah."

Finally, the car stopped at the entrance of a residential alley. Xing Yan, who was sitting behind Qin Fang, said to him, "Get out of the car."

Qin Fang got out without asking much and just followed them. This should be an old area in the suburbs, with many landed apartments and small buildings, which were probably not common in the city.

When walking into the alley, the sound of dogs barking in the yards could be heard every few houses, and the occasional chirping of crickets by the roadside. These sounds didn't seem harsh in the quiet night, but rather made it more tranquil.

Zhou Siming, who was walking at the very front, stopped in front of a gate, turned on his phone's flashlight, shining it on the keyhole, and opened the gate with a key.

Qin Fang glanced at Xing Yan, and Xing Yan gestured for him to go in.

"I feel like you guys are going to sell me." Qin Fang joked and walked in.

Xing Yan turned his head and asked him, "Are you afraid?"

"Terrified," Qin Fang said deliberately, "I feel like once you lock the door, I won't be able to escape."

Zhou Siming, who was at the front, muttered, "Idiot."

Qin Fang ignored him, too tired in the middle of the night.

To add some sense of fear for Qin Fang, Han Xiaogong locked the gate behind him, making a loud sound as the lock hit the iron gate.

Qin Fang laughed and said to Xing Yan, "Yan-ge, save me."

Xing Yan walked beside him without making a sound. Instead, Si Tu laughed and asked Han Xiaogong, "Are you bored?"

Han Xiaogong shrugged, "I'm just adding some drama for the handsome guy."

They entered a small courtyard with a two-story building inside. It looked quite old from the outside, with a balcony on the second floor where some old items were piled up.

After Zhou Siming opened the door, he turned on the light on the wall, and everything became clear in an instant.

It was indeed an old house. The living room had a set of sofa and coffee table, with a dining table next to it. The furnishings were quite old but still looked okay.

"Too tired, I'm going to sleep." Han Xiaogong yawned, picked up his suitcase, and went upstairs.

Qin Fang always had the urge to lend a hand when he saw him carrying the suitcase, but before reaching out, he remembered that this was a boy, so he stood still.

Zhou Siming also went upstairs without saying a word. Downstairs, apart from Qin Fang, only Xing Yan and Si Tu were left.

Si Tu glanced at Qin Fang and then asked Xing Yan, "He's sleeping in your room?"

Xing Yan nodded and made an "mm" sound.

Si Tu then said, "Then I'm going to sleep?"

"Sleep in yours," Xing Yan said.

Si Tu smiled and said "good night" to both of them, and said to Qin Fang, "If you want to take a shower, let him heat up water for you."

"Okay," Qin Fang nodded to him, "Good night."

Xing Yan's bedroom was very simple, with two beds, a table, a wardrobe, and a guitar.

Qin Fang followed him inside. Xing Yan said, "Pick a bed."

"I don't care," Qin Fang took off his bag and put it on the table. No one was living in the room and it was quite dusty, but he didn't mind too much. He said to Xing Yan, "Whichever bed you slept in before, I'll take the other one. But why do you have two beds in your room?"

Xing Yan said, "When it rains, the second floor leaks. Those two sometimes come down to stay."

He took out vacuum-sealed bedding and sheets from the cabinet and tossed a set to Qin Fang, asking, "Do you know how to set it up, young master?"

"I do," Qin Fang smiled. "This young master will demonstrate for you."

Qin Fang didn't ask a single question about this house, about these four people, or about their living situation.

The water took too long to boil, so they made do by rinsing with cold water before coming back to lie down directly. Qin Fang couldn't really fall asleep as he had dozed off intermittently several times on the train. Xing Yan slept very quietly, without a sound.

The room wasn't too hot. The curtains weren't drawn, allowing moonlight to spill in, so it wasn't dark.

For a moment, Qin Fang suddenly felt it was quite amazing that on an impulse, he had followed Xing Yan to such an unfamiliar city, staying in an old house with a sense of history but not dilapidated. He never could have imagined all this before.

When Qin Fang fell asleep, it was almost dawn, probably around three o'clock. When he opened his eyes in the morning, the sunlight was already quite strong. He felt for his phone to check the time - 9:30 AM.

Leaving the room, he saw Han Xiaogong sitting cross-legged on the sofa in the living room, watching a movie on a tablet. Seeing him come out, he raised his hand in greeting. "Hi."

"Good morning," Qin Fang asked, "Where are the others?"

"The ones upstairs haven't gotten up yet. The one in your room went out." Han Xiaogong said.

As soon as he finished speaking, the courtyard gate sounded. Xing Yan came back carrying a bunch of things. Seeing that Qin Fang was up, he said, "Have you washed up? Eat after you're done."

"Not yet," Qin Fang smiled at him. "Yan-ge, you worked hard."

Han Xiaogong glanced up, chuckling lightly, "The handsome guy has a sweet mouth."

When Qin Fang finished freshening up and came out, Han Xiaogong was already eating from a box of noodles, his hair tied up again. When Qin Fang looked at him, he curled the corner of his lips at Qin Fang. When he smiled, the corners of his eyes lifted slightly. "Why do you keep looking at me?"

Qin Fang really didn't mean to look at him, just glancing over subconsciously after coming out of the bathroom. Qin Fang shook his head with a smile, "I didn't mean to."

"It's fine even if you meant to," Han Xiaogong tucked a stray lock of hair that was a bit bothersome behind his ear and said to Qin Fang, "Look all you want, I don't mind."

Qin Fang sat down and said, "I really didn't."

"Don't pay attention to him." Xing Yan pushed a breakfast over to Qin Fang. "All the guys in the world are looking at him."

Hearing this, Han Xiaogong just laughed softly, glancing at Qin Fang, then took another bite of food and slowly said, "A lot of straight men start bending for me. Handsome, be careful too."

Qin Fang actually nodded, "You really are quite..."

"Quite what?" Han Xiaogong looked up at him.

Qin Fang hadn't thought of a description, but Xing Yan interjected from the side, "Quite flirty."

Han Xiaogong burst out laughing. Qin Fang also shook his head with a smile, "That's not what I meant."

"It doesn't matter what you mean," Han Xiaogong took a tissue to wipe his mouth, chuckling lightly, "Let's see if you bend or not after this holiday."
