Chapter 49

Chapter 28 Part 2

Pei Ran cleared his throat before answering the phone, “Hello?”

Lin Kang anxiously asked a pointless question, “Pei Ran, were you asleep?”

Pei Ran rubbed his eyes, “No, what’s up?”

“Yes, yes, yes!” Lin Kang said, “The car just left, you should hurry and get ready to go to the hospital! It’s the City Hospital!”

Pei Ran asked, completely bewildered, “Go to the hospital for what?”

“You don’t know yet?” Lin Kang said, “Yan Zhun and Luo Qingshan got into a fight!!”

-

Lin Xuhuan was in the middle of a live stream late at night when a call came from Yan Zhun. He didn’t even have time to say goodbye before ending the stream.

The Coach was so anxious he didn’t even have time to call for the driver and got into the driver’s seat himself.

“Which hospital?” the Coach asked.

“The City Hospital, the one on Xian San Street,” Lin Xuhuan said. “Bro, there isn’t even a fly on the road, can you drive a little faster?”

“I’m already about to speed!” the Coach said, then glanced at the side of the street and suddenly slammed on the brakes.

Pei Ran was standing at a bus stop waiting for a ride. At this hour, all the taxis were camped outside entertainment venues and were hard to hail. The ride-hailing app was temporarily down for maintenance, so he had been waiting for a long time without a single car coming.

The Coach figured he was probably also looking for Yan Zhun, so he pulled over, rolled down the window, and said, “Baby Ran, you…”

“Can you take me to the City Hospital?” Pei Ran interrupted him. “Sorry to trouble you.”

The Coach was stunned, “We were heading there anyway, but don’t you have class tomorrow? Why don’t you just go back and rest…”

Before he could finish, Pei Ran had already opened the car door and gotten in.

Coach: “…”

On the way, Pei Ran stared silently out the window.

Lin Xuhuan glanced at him several times and couldn’t help but say, “Baby Ran, don’t worry, my brother has never lost a fight.”

Pei Ran asked, “He’s been in fights before?”

“Of course!” Lin Xuhuan got excited just thinking about the past. “Back then, a Youth Trainee stole my brother’s things. After my brother caught him, he was resentful and secretly broke my brother’s keyboard. To get a substitute spot, he even put laxatives in our water. My brother caught him and beat him to the ground on the spot!”

The Coach glanced at them in the rearview mirror, “Alright, why bring up old matters?”

Lin Xuhuan shrugged and turned to ask, “By the way, Baby Ran, how did you know my brother was in the hospital? Did he call you?”

“A friend told me.”

Lin Xuhuan nodded, rubbing his hands together eagerly, “I wonder who my brother fought this time. He’s been detached from worldly affairs for so long, which dumbass is capable enough to make his old self get physical.”

Pei Ran was silent for a long time, then said, “His roommate.”

“His roommate? The one surnamed Luo?” After saying this, Lin Xuhuan suddenly thought of something, paused, and stared blankly at the person beside him. “Isn’t that person…”

Pei Ran continued his sentence, speaking very naturally, “Mhm, he’s my ex-boyfriend.”

The hospital corridor was filled with the smell of disinfectant.

As Lin Xuhuan searched for the emergency room, he worriedly glanced at Pei Ran, thinking, ‘It’s over, Baby Ran probably isn’t here to see my brother, he’s here to see his ex-boyfriend.’

Pei Ran was dressed thinly in a simple, thin long-sleeved shirt and jeans. His hair was a bit messy, and the edges of his eyes were slightly red, looking as if he had just been woken up.

Lin Xuhuan gulped. They weren’t going to start a fight in a bit, were they? That would be too ugly.

He was good at arguing with people, but not at mediating fights.

With a heart full of thoughts, Lin Xuhuan found the emergency room.

There weren’t many people in the middle of the night. His brother was sitting alone on a bench outside the emergency room, his posture lazy and slumped. There was gauze on his arm and face, and he was staring blankly at the floor.

Hearing footsteps, Yan Zhun turned his head slightly and his gaze met the newcomers’.

Lin Xuhuan rushed forward in one big step, blocking the space between the two.

“Bro, holy shit, how did you get so hurt?! Does it hurt? That bastard… where is that guy? Don’t tell me you lost? Why didn’t you tell me beforehand if you were going to beat someone up…”

His rambling annoyed Yan Zhun and gave him a headache.

He raised a hand and waved it at Lin Xuhuan.

Lin Xuhuan gasped, “What do you mean? Does your hand hurt? I’ll go get a doctor!”

Yan Zhun said in a hoarse voice, “Move aside a little, you’re blocking me.”

Lin Xuhuan: “…”

Lin Xuhuan finally moved aside, his gaze darting warily between the two, already prepared to smooth things over.

Pei Ran’s brows were furrowed the whole time, his head lowered to look at the gauze near Yan Zhun’s wrist.

Yan Zhun let him look, only moving after a moment.

He extended his leg and, under Lin Xuhuan’s intensely nervous gaze, gently tapped Pei Ran’s sneaker.

“I started it,” Yan Zhun confessed his crime, saying in a low voice, “Don’t be angry… Teacher Pei.”
