Chapter 28 - Chapter 17 Part 1

The school was holding its sports meet these two days, so there were no classes. Once night fell, the late-night snack stalls were all filled with students.

Luo Qingshan sat on a long bench with his legs crossed, not participating in the table's conversation.

The person next to him tapped his glass. "What are you spacing out for?"

Luo Qingshan lifted his chin, picked up his glass, and took a sip. "Nothing. What were we talking about?"

"He's been like this recently, heartbroken." His friend poured him a bottle. "Here, drink. You'll be fine after getting drunk a few times."

"Don't pour him any more. Who's going to help him back if he gets drunk later?"

"Su Nian, of course."

Su Nian was sitting right across from Luo Qingshan. Hearing this, he couldn't help but shoot Luo Qingshan a glance.

Luo Qingshan didn't even look at him, just shaking his head. "I don't need anyone to help me. It's just beer, I won't get drunk."

After a while, Luo Qingshan suddenly blurted out, "Yan Zhun didn't come?"

Everyone at the table was from the same department. They were all stunned to hear this.

"Are you drunk?" a friend looked at him in surprise. "When has Yan Zhun ever come? Only that one time for your birthday."

"I did invite him," Lin Kang said, pouring himself a drink. "He said he was busy and couldn't make it."

"Holy shit." A friend who was casually scrolling on his phone gasped after seeing a certain Weibo post. He turned his phone around for everyone to see. "Is this Yan Zhun?"

It was a Weibo post from TZG's Assaulter. The caption was "Grabbing some skewers after training," and the right side of the photo had accidentally captured someone. A boy was leaning lazily against a gaming chair, his side profile exceptionally fine.

Someone in the top comments asked who he was.

The Assaulter replied: My big bro, not a Youth Trainee, don't guess randomly.

TZG could be considered the number one esports team in the country. Especially in the last two years, they've blossomed in both PUBG and League of Legends, creating a huge buzz. Almost every guy who played games followed them.

"It really is..." Lin Kang withdrew his gaze, shaking his head and clicking his tongue. "To have someone from TZG call him 'big bro', Yan Zhun is truly something else."

"Yeah, if I were like him, why would I still be studying? I'd have gone into esports to make money long ago. With that face of his, even if he didn't play well, he could still make money from girlfriend fans." The friend remembered something and nudged Luo Qingshan's arm. "Hey, haven't you played with Yan Zhun before? Is he good?"

For some reason, Luo Qingshan didn't feel like answering.

He stared at the photo for a few moments, took a drink of wine, and smiled. "So what if you're amazing at games?"

"Bro, it's 2020, and you're still saying things like that? Do you know how much pro players' annual contract fees are, how much prize money they can get from one championship, how big a cut they get from an endorsement?" Lin Kang was amused. "If Yan Zhun had gone pro back then, he definitely would have been a huge success."

"What, you have the ability to see the future?" Luo Qingshan scoffed. "There are so many skilled people out there, it would never be his turn."

"You don't get it, TZG's Coach even came to our school to corner him. I saw it several times..." Lin Kang mulled it over. "What's with you today? You're talking strangely."

Luo Qingshan lowered his head in silence for a moment, then shook it. "It's nothing."

Midway through the drinking session, Luo Qingshan felt it was boring and left early.

He found an excuse to refuse Su Nian's company and returned to the dorm alone. On the way, he couldn't resist taking out his phone to message Pei Ran, only remembering after typing out the message that Pei Ran had blocked him.

The dorm was pitch-black and empty. Luo Qingshan turned on the light and glanced at Yan Zhun's bed.

Besides the computer and headphones, there was no other clutter on the desk, as dull and uninteresting as its owner.

Returning to his own seat, Luo Qingshan turned on his computer out of habit.

He sat there in a daze, the scene he saw in the lounge flashing through his mind—Pei Ran sitting on the bed, unconsciously clutching the sheet due to the pain, while Yan Zhun held the back of his knee with one hand, lowering his head to blow on it.

It looked as if Yan Zhun was kissing Pei Ran's leg.

A message notification interrupted Luo Qingshan's thoughts. It was from a friend he knew from gaming, asking if he wanted to play PUBG. They were a team of three looking for one more.

Since he couldn't sleep anyway, he logged into the game, opened his Steam friends list, and immediately saw the in-game "BabyRan".

Luo Qingshan frowned.

Pei Ran didn't actually like playing this game much because it ended too quickly, offering little gaming experience. In the past, Luo Qingshan had to coax him for a long time before Pei Ran would agree to log on.

But recently, Pei Ran seemed to be playing it often.

Luo Qingshan pondered for a moment, ignored the team invitation that popped up on the right, and exited to check Pei Ran's match history.

Then he discovered that Pei Ran had indeed been playing this game a lot recently, and had even logged on every single day during the seven-day break.

And his match history was very impressive, so impressive it was a bit strange.

Pei Ran's kill count was often 0, with an occasional one or two kills, and his total damage wasn't high either.

However, looking down the line of his match history, there were surprisingly many "Top 10" and "Chicken Dinner" marks.

Luo Qingshan's Adam's apple bobbed. He clicked into Pei Ran's detailed match history and saw his teammate's ID.

In almost every single match, there was "111GOD".

The only time 111GOD wasn't there was in the match he had invited Pei Ran to some time ago—and after that game ended, 111GOD appeared again.

Luo Qingshan was in disbelief, clicking open the match history game by game to confirm.

Until he scrolled to the squad match he had played with Yan Zhun and Su Nian.

Luo Qingshan kept his jaw clenched until his cheeks ached before he gradually relaxed.

He sat quietly for a moment, then snatched the phone from his desk and found his roommate's chat window in his WeChat contacts.

[Luo Qingshan: You're playing PUBG too? Who are you playing with? Let me join.]

It was unknown how long it took before the other side replied.

[Yan Zhun: No.]

[Luo Qingshan: No way, so heartless?]

On the other side, Lin Xuhuan's shouts echoed through the base: "Baby Ran! Baby Ran, run! There are so many people behind you! Jump while you run!! Quick, come to me, come to me! I'll protect you—hey, wait, why are you going to my big bro?!"

Yan Zhun watched the person running towards him, smiled lightly, and only after wiping out the enemy team did he pick up his phone to type.

[Yan Zhun: Yeah, no room for you.]

-

Yan Zhun stayed at the TZG Base for several consecutive days.

This group of people was addicted and insisted he stay and play training matches with them for a few more days. Seeing that the room they arranged for him was large and quiet enough, Yan Zhun reluctantly agreed.

On their day off, Lin Xuhuan dragged him out for dinner.

TZG's base was very close to Yan Zhun's school, just across the road—mansions in this area were cheap, and there weren't many entertainment facilities nearby to distract the team members, making it perfect.

Passing by a computer shop, Yan Zhun casually glanced inside, and his steps immediately came to a halt.

"About how much would the repair cost?" Pei Ran asked, looking at his computer.
