On nights when Feng Chi was in a bad mood, he liked to sit on the branches of the giant sycamore tree and gaze at the night sky. This night, as he sat on the branch, looking at the bright moon, he suddenly felt inspired and took out his phoenix zither, ready to play a tune. Just at that moment, he heard intermittent zither music.
Feng Chi: "..." What a familiar, unpleasant sound. He had been tortured by this noise for nearly the entire afternoon. Just now, that discordant melody still lingered in his ears, disturbing him so much that he couldn't sleep at night and came out to look at the moon to change his mood.
But now that annoying sound was back again.
He peered down through the dense branches and leaves of the sycamore tree and, sure enough, saw Lu Linsheng sitting at the base of the tree. Although it was far away, Feng Chi could still clearly see Lu Linsheng and Bai Ling sitting there, one playing and the other listening.
As the young heir of the Phoenix Clan, Feng Chi of course knew about the arrival of these two guests. Although he had a proud temperament and didn't like to pay attention to people, he still had some pity for Bai Ling, the last orphan of the White Dragon Clan... He shouldn't have had that bit of pity, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed on a whim to teach Lu Linsheng to play the phoenix zither, resulting in his ears going deaf for an afternoon.
The noble and proud young heir Feng Chi had extremely good musical talent and couldn't stand such messy sounds. For Lu Linsheng's normal human level of musical talent, he was simply disgusted to the extreme. After patiently teaching for two hours, he released the man.
Playing like this, who could bear to listen? Feng Chi thought.
"Clap clap clap! Good, well played, much better than before, even more pleasant to hear than that young heir we saw earlier!" Feng Chi heard the white dragon under the tree say.
Feng Chi: "..." What the heck, are your ears deaf? Dragons really are this shameless, every one of them can tell blatant lies with their eyes open. To chase someone they like, they have no sense of propriety and can say any false words.
Feng Chi felt insulted. Holding his phoenix zither, he almost couldn't resist smashing it down to knock some sense into that dog couple under the tree who actually slandered him like this.
"Okay, they are guests, forgive their stupidity, don't stoop to their level." Feng Chi took a deep breath and muttered to himself. Immediately after, he heard Lu Linsheng start playing the zither again under the tree.
This place was unbearable. He hugged his beloved phoenix zither and went back to sleep, but ended up not sleeping well all night. Even in his dreams there was that unpleasant noise, which made him a bit irritable when he got up early in the morning.
When he went to see the Phoenix Queen, he couldn't help but ask her: "Those two people, when are they leaving? Have them leave early." He really couldn't stand this noise pollution.
The Phoenix Queen looked at him in surprise, then pulled a long face and scolded: "Look at what you're saying, guests are guests. Even if we can't shelter Bai Ling to avoid calamity, we can't be so heartless and unrighteous. You look like you can't wait to avoid them, is this how I taught you?!"
Feng Chi, scolded harshly by his own mother, felt utterly aggrieved. He was too lazy to explain, snorted, and walked out angrily. Before he got far, he ran into Lu Linsheng. He looked at the other party vigilantly, "What are you here for again, I'm not teaching anymore, I'm very busy."
Lu Linsheng took out the phoenix zither Feng Chi had casually given him yesterday. "A string broke," he said. "Please help me replace it."
This kind of silk string was tough, made from the belly thread of a kind of lone mountain fish. It was impossible to break without using the strength of several hundred pounds. He looked at Lu Linsheng suspiciously, "What did you use this string for, did you go fishing for Kun Peng?"
Bai Ling came over and saw the two of them sitting together. Feng Chi had a look of disgust as he put a new string on the phoenix zither, briefly explaining how to change it. Lu Linsheng just looked at the phoenix zither in his hands, his face expressionless - except for Bai Ling, he was like this to everyone.
Could this be... making friends?
Bai Ling asked Lu Linsheng, who laughed and said, "Of course not." For him, friends didn't exist in this world. In fact, the flesh and blood of creatures like phoenixes was quite appealing to him.
If it wasn't for Bai Ling, he might have eaten the phoenixes here. He probably couldn't eat that Phoenix Queen inside, but this little phoenix he should be able to eat.
In a sense, Lu Linsheng was more similar to demons than to humans, but unlike demons, he had reason and could control the devouring desires in his body. If he ate the phoenixes here now, it would cause trouble for Bai Ling, so he wouldn't eat them. There were things to eat everywhere, and there would be opportunities in the future too.
If there was a suitable opportunity later, he would of course eat these seemingly not bad foods, even if he was still holding the phoenix zither they gave him in his hands. When it came to eating, he wouldn't feel the slightest bit embarrassed.
That afternoon, the Phoenix Queen called Bai Ling over again and solemnly gave her a set of pure white armor. "This was left behind by an elder of the White Dragon Clan who married into Shenmu Mountain back then. That branch left no descendants, so this armor has been kept in the clan with no one to inherit it. I specially took it out for you, hoping you can escape this calamity."
Bai Ling touched the soft white armor, which could already be called a treasure. It wasn't easy for the Phoenix Queen to decide to give it away. Bai Ling accepted the armor and expressed her thanks seriously, "If I'm lucky enough to avoid this calamity, next time I'll prepare a gift and come visit again."
She didn't stay long at Shenmu Mountain and left with Lu Linsheng soon after.
"Now what, where else can we go?" Old Seashell lamented endlessly. Actually, he also knew that no matter how far they went, it would be in vain. The Demon Dragon was the Dragon God. As long as he wanted to find them, he would quickly discover where Bai Ling was.
Even if this Dragon God had been suppressed for so many years and his power had been greatly weakened, there was a saying in the human world that "a starving camel is still bigger than a horse". No matter how weak the Demon Dragon was, he was not someone the young miss, this little dragon, could handle.
They had to find someone powerful who could protect the young miss.
"Young miss, just listen to my advice. First go to Mount Youfu to apologize and properly beg the Supreme God Xuan Cang. He might be willing to protect you, at least leaving you with your life." Old Seashell began to constantly send messages to Bai Ling, trying to persuade her.
"I know the young miss is unwilling, but now is not the time to be willful..." While Old Seashell was trying his best to persuade Bai Ling, he had no idea that the Supreme God Xuan Cang was coldly watching from the clouds above, waiting for Bai Ling to come begging.
In Supreme God Xuan Cang's mind, Bai Ling wouldn't be able to resist for long and would have to submit to him. He could of course see Bai Ling's hesitation. She was indeed still a young, naive and proud little girl, but little girls have to grow up eventually, and she'll learn her lesson after suffering a bit.
He waited at his leisure, but instead of Bai Ling's surrender, what arrived first was the complete shattering of the Dragon God's seal in the East Sea.
The Demon Dragon had emerged.
Bai Ling felt a strong palpitation. She had been resting, curiously fiddling with Lu Linsheng's phoenix zither, when suddenly her expression froze. The zither fell from her hands and she collapsed to the ground, her entire body shaking from a powerful dizziness.
Lu Linsheng's smile vanished and he immediately supported her, feeling her whole body trembling.
"What's wrong?" He didn't sense anything. Reaching out to stroke Bai Ling's forehead, he saw a pair of dragon horns had grown on her head. She was still a young dragon, so the horns were small with pinkish tips.
Bai Ling leaned against Lu Linsheng's chest, panting. Touching her forehead, she stubbornly pushed herself up and said intermittently, "I have a feeling...the Dragon God...the Demon Dragon is out, very far away, to the east, something shattered." She had been impacted by that force, even her form was affected.
Lu Linsheng stared at the dragon horns on her head without blinking.
Bai Ling was a bit dazed. Scratching where the horns had grown out, she felt itchy. "I feel really bad now, a sense of great danger. Is that Demon Dragon going to come find me so quickly?"
Lu Linsheng's voice was gentle, "Is your head a bit itchy? Let me scratch it for you."
Bai Ling casually said, "Oh, okay."
Old Seashell, who had been extremely anxious, nearly went crazy seeing this scene. He screamed loudly in Bai Ling's mind, "Okay what! Not okay! Tell him to put his hands down, don't let him touch randomly! Is that a place he can just casually touch!"
Bai Ling covered her head in pain, "He's just helping to scratch my head, not my back. Don't yell, you're making my head hurt."
Old Seashell lowered his voice and started sobbing, "The Demon Dragon has lost all reason, his nature is cruel. He remembers it was our White Dragon Clan that did the final seal. Now he'll definitely come find trouble with you, little master. At a time like this, you're not even anxious, flirting with some strange little demon that popped out of a corner, you're still so young..."
Bai Ling felt the old man might have gone mad with worry, even saying such careless things.
