Death Progress Bar

Death Progress Bar

Chapter 98 - The Young Master with a Sports Car

When going to police school, there was no need to bring too much luggage as the necessary items would be provided by the school. Shi Jin packed his essential documents and some personal belongings into a small backpack, and that was enough.

After dinner, Lian Jun didn't go to his study but instead stayed in the room with Shi Jin to play mahjong.

"I won't be able to play games for at least two months. It's so frustrating," Shi Jin said while shaking his head and sighing, looking like he was saying goodbye to his beloved mahjong.

Lian Jun made a move with his fingers while placing a card down, glanced at Shi Jin, and then pulled out another card unexpectedly. Shi Jin immediately wailed and shouted, "Why did you play that card? It's worth two points for both sides. We're done for!"

Lian Jun remained expressionless, as if he hadn't heard Shi Jin's cries. "Never mind, I give up. What's the point of cheating anyway?"

Shi Jin sighed and threw his tablet aside, then turned to lean against Lian Jun. He stuck his head under Lian Jun's arm and smiled, "Baby, let's go wash up and go to bed."

Lian Jun looked down at him, unmoved.

Shi Jin leaned in closer and whispered, "Do you want to wash together?"

Lian Jun lowered his head and looked at him for a few seconds before suddenly throwing his tablet aside and kissing him.

Shi Jin was delighted by his teasing and quickly locked away Xiao Si in the little black room. He pulled Lian Jun up and kissed him as they walked towards the bathroom.

......

The school that Shi Jin applied to was located in the university city of B, which was only a little over an hour's drive from the club. It was actually quite close, but because the police academy students had to leave campus for military training, even though the school was close to the club, it was still difficult for Shi Jin to come back during the two months after he reported for duty.

Lian Jun had no way of visiting him either. To make matters worse, the people at the club couldn't even personally escort Shi Jin to report to school. After all, no country's officials are so magnanimous as to allow people with a shady background to openly enter official schools that train regular soldiers.

Even if it were Lian Jun, it wouldn't be possible, or rather, precisely because he was Lian Jun, it was even less possible. Lian Jun's relationship with the Annihilation and officialdom seemed cooperative, but they also mutually feared each other. Lian Jun could secretly help Shi Jin get into the police academy, but he couldn't cross the line of stepping on the officialdom's "power reserve" in an obvious way. Doing so would release some bad signals and affect the situation of both sides.

"In B City, too many people are watching me. Regardless of whether there is a possibility of being discovered, I must try my best to avoid the spread of information like 'the leader of the Annihilation gang frequently enters official police schools.'" explained Lian Jun. He then put some cash and high-calorie snacks into his backpack, saying, "So this time, I can only send you to the university city. I can't personally take you into the school."

Shi Jin could sense the sadness hidden beneath Lian Jun's calm facade. He leaned over and kissed him, saying, "It's okay, I can go to school by myself. We'll keep in touch when I enter the school, and I'll livestream for you."

Lian Jun looked up at him, no longer hiding his reluctance. He reached out and touched his face, saying, "You don't need to livestream. Take care of yourself after you enter school. I've arranged for others to send you to school. Other students have their families to send them, and you must have someone too. When Number One and the others went to school, I also arranged for Mr. Feng to personally send them there."

"Okay, I'll listen to your arrangements." Shi Jin held his hand and kissed it, then hugged him.

Lian Jun hugged him back, stroking his back and closing his eyes. He let out a soft sigh. It should have been him comforting Shi Jin, who was leaving home, but now it had become Shi Jin comforting him, the older lover who had failed in his duties.

But he really couldn't bear to part with him. The longer they were together, the more reluctant he was to be separated from this person.

......

After lunch, Shi Jin bid farewell to the Numbers and, accompanied by Lian Jun, Number One, and Number Two, got into the car and headed towards the university city.

Once they were in the car, Lian Jun became quiet and stopped repeating the "things to know for going to school" that he had already reminded Shi Jin of many times. Instead, he held Shi Jin's hand and gently rubbed it, as if trying to remember his breath and body temperature.

"Since we're already in the university city, why don't you go to the hospital for a physical check-up later?" Shi Jin changed the subject and made a positive suggestion.

After returning from the vacation resort, Lian Jun's progress bar had dropped a few more points and was now at 493. It was only a matter of time before it would drop below 490. Shi Jin suggested that Lian Jun undergo a thorough check-up and compare his current physical condition to his previous one to estimate how much the progress bar would drop. Then, Lian Jun could officially start taking the medicine.

Upon hearing this, Number One, who was in the driver's seat, glanced at Lian Jun through the rearview mirror and tactfully praised Shi Jin's proposal, "Young Master, do you want to call Uncle Long now?"

Meanwhile, Number Two, who was in the passenger seat, had already taken out his phone and was ready to dial as soon as Lian Jun gave the green light. Lian Jun didn't really have the intention of getting a check-up, but seeing Shi Jin's hopeful expression and remembering that this was the last request he made before going to school, he nodded and said, "Alright, we can go get a check-up on the way."

"Awesome!" Shi Jin expressed his happiness straightforwardly, giving Lian Jun a kiss before leaning against him.

Lian Jun hugged him, suppressing his reluctance, and kissed his ear.

......

Uncle Long drove very fast. Just as their cars had just pulled into the sanatorium, Uncle Long's car whooshed past them and stopped behind them. Number Three got out of the driver's seat helplessly and said to Number Two, who was raising his eyebrows and looking over, "Don't look, I definitely went over the speed limit. Remember to have the logistics department give me a ticket."

Number Two mercilessly mocked him. The group entered the inspection building and Uncle Long led them to prepare various instruments, leaving everyone in the lobby on the first floor to wait. Shi Jin glanced at the time, calculating how much longer he could accompany Lian Jun, when he saw someone unexpected walk in from outside.

"Fifth Brother?" He rubbed his eyes to make sure it was really Li Jiuzheng who had entered, then quickly turned to look at Lian Jun.

"I invited him here," Lian Jun had been keeping an eye on him and when he saw Shi Jin's gaze, he immediately slid his wheelchair over and explained, "He's familiar with the university city and has the cleanest background, so he's the most suitable person to take you to register. I'm sorry I didn't ask for your opinion before making the decision."

As Shi Jin remembered what Lian Jun had said to him, "Other students have family members to send them off, so you must have someone too," his heart warmed. He knew that Lian Jun was just overly concerned about him, which was why he arranged for this. Shi Jin shook his head, indicating that it was nothing.

While they were talking, Li Jiuzheng had already seen them walking over. He stopped in front of Shi Jin and greeted him, "Xiao Jin, I'll take you to school." He even smiled brightly, and his naturally melancholic temperament seemed to have dissipated, replaced by a very comfortable and gentle demeanor.

The change in him was so obvious that Shi Jin was stunned for a moment before he raised his hand to greet him.

"Let's go register now," Lian Jun said, suppressing his reluctance and taking the initiative to speak up. "If we go too late, we won't have time to organize our things. Get to bed early tonight and don't affect tomorrow's physical examination."

Shi Jin turned his head to look at him and saw the patient expression on his face. He sighed inwardly, bent down to hug him, whispered something in his ear, then stood up straight and waved to the others, gesturing to Li Jiuzheng before walking out first.

Li Jiuzheng nodded to the others and quickly followed suit.

Lian Jun watched as Shi Jin's figure disappeared outside the building. He rubbed his ear, which had just been teased by Shi Jin's breath, and suddenly laughed. He couldn't believe Shi Jin had said something about getting better soon so they could do something inappropriate when he returned from military training. It was so out of character for him.

As he laughed, his expression slowly faded. He lowered his head to adjust his emotions and put on a mask of calmness, gesturing for Number One to push him to the treatment room.

......

The police academy was not far from the sanatorium in a straight line, but in reality, one had to go around several schools, making the distance quite far. Walking was clearly not a wise choice. Li Jiuzheng took Shi Jin through the side entrance of the neighboring medical university and then led him to his car.

"Is this your new car?" Shi Jin looked at the bright red sports car in front of him, feeling a bit overwhelmed. Li Jiuzheng usually dressed quite low-key, so why was his car so flashy?

Seeing his expression, Li Jiuzheng's hand holding the keys stiffened. "Don't you like it? This...this is my senior brother's car. He said young people nowadays like this kind of thing."

"Your senior brother is lying to you! Only young people who are show-offs would like this car!" Shi Jin suppressed the urge to be honest and didn't want to hurt the fragile heart of the young man. He dryly praised, "It's not bad, this car is pretty good. Look at the streamlined body...it looks expensive!" It was obvious that he was just trying to brush it off.

Li Jiuzheng saw through his insincerity and silently put the car keys in his pocket, looking down with a melancholy expression.

Shi Jin thought to himself, "..." He now strongly suspected that Li Jiuzheng borrowed this car from his senior brother just to take him to school.

Shi Jin quickly praised the car a few more times and even took the initiative to open the car door and sit inside, warmly greeting Li Jiuzheng.

Li Jiuzheng glanced at him and also got in the car, emphasizing, "This really is my senior brother's car."

"Mm, I know. Your senior brother has great taste," Shi Jin weakly agreed. A flashy red sports car pulled up at the entrance of the prestigious police academy, its roaring engine catching the attention of all the passing students and parents.

Sitting inside the car, Shi Jin watched as the senior students in their police uniforms welcomed the new students at the entrance. He felt his scalp tingle and had the urge to cover his face with his hands. Being the younger brother of someone so accomplished was a heavy burden to bear.

"We're here already?" Li Jiuzheng stepped out of the car and glanced at the academy's gate, furrowing his brows. "I don't think it looks as good as the entrance of XX University. It's so tacky."

As Shi Jin stepped out of the car, his foot almost retreated in fear. He quickly grabbed Li Jiuzheng's shoulder and whispered, "Don't make enemies for me. All the senior students at the gate are watching us. They're giving you the evil eye, can't you see?"

Shi Jin then raised his voice and looked at the school gate with admiration. "I love the grand and majestic entrance of this old police academy. It has a sense of historical significance and a special charm. It's so cool!" He then gestured with his eyes for Li Jiuzheng to shut up.

But Shi Jin's words only made Li Jiuzheng more annoyed. He coldly looked at the senior students who were staring at them and asked, "Are you afraid they'll bully you?"

Please, just stop talking!

Just as Shi Jin was about to say something else, a familiar voice suddenly came from a nearby black business car.

"Old Fifth! I knew you were lying to me!" As soon as he heard the voice, Shi Jin's heart skipped a beat and he turned his head towards the direction of the sound.

Rong Zhouzhong stepped out of the business car wearing a hat and a mask, striding towards them with an imposing manner. He stopped in front of the two and then sneered at the car parked beside them, "Old Fifth, is this the gift you said you wanted to give to the little bastard for starting school? This color, do you think the little bastard is a girl?"

Hey! This is gender discrimination! Can't boys drive red cars? Some parents of students who drive red cars have already looked over here! And do you know that you look suspiciously covered up in this hot summer weather?

Wait a minute, this is a gift for starting school? Wasn't it the senior brother's borrowed car?

Shi Jin turned his head in surprise to look at Li Jiuzheng. In the eyes of Li Jiuzheng, there was a flicker of killing intent. The harmless demeanor of the melancholic beauty dissipated in an instant, and he once again became the difficult-to-deal-with, cold-blooded doctor.

He looked at Rong Zhouzhong and said coldly, "Third Brother, do you want me to shout your name here?"

Rong Zhouzhong's expression froze at the words, and he gave Li Jiuzheng a glare before ignoring him completely. He turned to Shi Jin and said, "Let's go. It's too hot outside. Hurry up and get into the school. I don't have time to waste with you."

Shi Jin was very considerate and said, "If Third Brother is busy, we can..."

Rong Zhouzhong's body visibly tensed at the words, and he quickly interrupted him, speaking with a hint of annoyance, "I'm not busy. I cleared my schedule today. I was just...never mind. I'm not good at talking."

Shi Jin looked at him with an awkward expression, not knowing how to explain. He remembered the careful greetings he had received from him recently and softened his heart. He lightly sighed and took the initiative to pat the backs of Li Jiuzheng and Rong Zhouzhong, saying, "Alright, thank you for coming. Let's go inside the school. It's silly to stand at the gate and talk."

Li Jiuzheng and Rong Zhouzhong were both stiffened by the pat, obviously not used to being treated so intimately. Then the two of them relaxed again, exchanged a glance, restrained their tempers, and obediently followed Shi Jin's lead into the school.

The three of them walked in a line towards the school, with two handsome guys and a model-like figure wearing a mask, which was completely out of place in the police academy.

"Are they really students here?" A confused parent asked, carefully examining the school's name and double-checking that they were indeed at the entrance of the police academy, and not some film and television school.

"Well, isn't this great?" A new student gushed, holding her face in her hands with a strange, reddish glow. "This place is simply heaven..."

......

While going through the registration process, Shi Jin realized that the two "parents" accompanying him were nothing more than decorations. No, they were even worse than decorations - they were two troublesome burdens.

"What? He can't wear his own clothes? He can't dye our hair or wear jewelry, and has to report in advance if he wants to leave campus on weekends?" Rong Zhouzhong flipped through the school rules manual with an incredulous expression on his face.

As Li Jiuzheng surveyed the dormitory that Shi Jin had just entered, his brow furrowed.

"A six-person room with no private bathroom, communal showers, and school-issued bedding... Xiao Jin, let me arrange for you to be a day student. I have a duplex in the university town that should be enough for you to live in."

"I can't become a day student here. Thank you, but I have to live on campus," Shi Jin replied dejectedly. He could feel the strange gazes of the other students and their parents in the dormitory, and he realized something: all of the siblings in the Shi family were probably problem children.

Shi Weichong and Fei Yujing didn't show obvious signs of being "problematic" because they were older. Xiang Aoting appeared the most normal due to his calm temperament and military training.

However, Rong Zhouzhong and Li Jiuzheng were completely different. Rong Zhouzhong was a second-generation star who had seen the world, while Li Jiuzheng was a young genius who had been mentally abused by his mother since childhood. These two had never experienced the life of an ordinary person, and their traits as problem children were still fully preserved and not diminished in the slightest!

A few of the other brothers might have come over to fulfill their "parental" duties, helping Shi Jin with the procedures and doing some polite things to establish good relationships with his roommates and their parents. But unfortunately, it was Rong Zhouzhong and Li Jiuzheng who came today. In a way, both of them had a bit of a "holier-than-thou" attitude.

How could anyone expect them to act like ordinary parents? It was impossible, not even in their wildest dreams.

Now, in the eyes of the others, he was probably seen as a pampered rich kid.

"Um, my name is Shi Jin. These two are my brothers. They don't know much about the police academy, so they were a little surprised..." Shi Jin tried to salvage his image in the eyes of his roommates. His roommate took a glance at his branded clothes and diamond ring, then looked at Rong Zhouzhong's trendy outfit and diamond earrings, and then at Li Jiuzheng's diamond watch and designer backpack. They all looked at each other coldly and said, "Oh."

Shi Jin thought to himself, "Uh oh, it seems like everyone's attitude has gotten worse than before."

After finally finishing the registration process, Shi Jin quickly sent Rong Zhouzhong and Li Jiuzheng out of the school. He firmly refused the sports car key that Li Jiuzheng handed him and the "pocket money" that Rong Zhouzhong offered, and pushed them into the car one by one before sending them off.

Finally able to have some peace and quiet, Shi Jin let out a sigh of relief. He called Lian Jun and found out that he was undergoing his final check-up, so he hung up the phone tactfully and returned to the dormitory, attempting to interact with his roommates.

Everyone was young, and although the initial impression of Shi Jin was a bit "spoiled", due to the way he conducted himself, after getting to know him, everyone quickly realized that he was actually a very nice person and didn't have any spoiled tendencies. So, they quickly became friends.

Shi Jin finally breathed a sigh of relief and invited everyone to dinner.

After dinner, the results of Lian Jun's examination finally came out, and the situation was very good. Uncle Long happily announced that if things continued at this pace, Lian Jun would only need another four months of rest before he could try medication, which was two months earlier than the previous estimate of six months.

Shi Jin was overjoyed to hear this news and quickly did some calculations. He concluded that conservatively estimating, when Lian Jun's progress bar reached around 430, he should be able to officially start taking medication.

430...He finished washing up and lay in bed, watching the progress bar in his mind that belonged to Lian Jun, slowly closing his eyes.

......

The next day, the police academy divided and integrated the students by class, and then took them all to the hospital for a physical examination. During the examination, Shi Jin, because of his particularly mature temperament and outstanding appearance among the students, was immediately recognized and given the nickname "Rich Young Master".

Shi Jin never expected things to develop like this, and he had no way to explain himself, feeling more and more helpless. The morning after his physical examination, Shi Jin got into the car arranged by the military district and headed towards the military training camp. Everything seemed too familiar, as if he had traveled through time and returned to his own world from the world of Lian Jun.

He often found himself lost in thought, only to be jolted back to reality and immediately turned to look at the faces of the students around him, making sure there was no familiar face among them before he could relax a little.

All the personal belongings that could prove Lian Jun's existence were left at school. Shi Jin felt his empty fingers and suddenly remembered the existence of Xiao Si in his mind, so he began to talk to it frantically.

Xiao Si was suddenly showered with attention, and it was pleasantly surprised. It immediately responded enthusiastically to the conversation and chatted with the person non-stop. They talked all the way to the military camp, where they got off the car and followed the crowd towards the camp. Due to his low mood, Shi Jin kept his head down and didn't look around like the other students.

Once they arrived at the camp, there was a formation and assembly. The person in charge of the military district and the instructor responsible for the training came to speak to the students. Xiao Si noticed someone staring at him and furrowed his brow. When he looked up, he was shocked to see a pair of familiar sharp eyes staring back at him.

"Fourth Brother?!" he gasped.

"Who's talking?" The counselor standing next to their class immediately looked over. Shi Jin quickly raised his hand to report and apologized, then looked towards Xiang Aoting standing next to the military leader. He glanced at Aoting's army uniform and felt that this world was truly too surreal.

What's going on? Xiang Aoting, who belongs to the Air Force, suddenly appeared in this army camp near B City. What's the commotion about?

As if sensing his confusion, Xiang Aoting suddenly walked over.

Shi Jin widened his eyes and quickly shook his head slightly to stop Xiang Aoting's actions, not daring to imagine the expressions of his classmates around him. Just now, his "Fourth Brother" was spoken with such clarity, surely the surrounding classmates had heard it.

Oh no, now besides being known as the young master, he would also be labeled as someone who got in via relationships. Without hesitation, Xiang Aoting walked over and looked towards the counselor standing next to the classroom, asking, "Which student was speaking just now?"

The counselor glanced at his military rank, saluted him, and then turned to call out for Shi Jin to step forward.

Shi Jin felt hopeless as he responded and walked out to stand in front of Xiang Aoting.

Xiang Aoting looked down at him and pointed to an empty corner, saying, "Go there and stand at attention for half an hour."

It turned out to be a punishment for standing at attention.

Shi Jin breathed a sigh of relief, not daring to look directly at Xiang Aoting's face, and obediently replied before walking towards the empty corner.

Xiang Aoting followed closely behind, looking like he was going to teach him a lesson. As they watched Shi Jin walk away, the students in the same class as him went from looking doubtful and suspicious to looking pitiful and sympathetic. They had initially thought of him as the wealthy young master of the class who suddenly spoke up because he had run into an acquaintance in the military camp.

But now, it was obvious that he had encountered an enemy. He stood at attention as soon as he arrived, and with the sun beating down on him, they wondered if this delicate young master could handle it. And that instructor looked so fierce, it seemed like the young master was in for a tough time.
