Death Progress Bar

Chapter 81 - Date Part 1

Upon receiving the text message, everyone at the club immediately sprang into action.

In the medical room, Uncle Long furrowed his brow as he drafted a list of dietary restrictions. He handed it to Shi Jin and instructed, "You can eat outside, but absolutely no touching these things. And no drinking alcohol, understand?"

"I understand, I understand. I'll remember," Shi Jin nodded vigorously, taking the list and tucking it into his pocket. "Anything else I should be aware of?"

Uncle Long thought for a moment before adding, "Don't stay out too late. Sleep is important."

"No problem, I'll be careful," Shi Jin continued nodding, then asked, "Can I go now?"

Uncle Long's furrowed brow twitched, knowing that he was anxious. Without saying much, he turned around and took out some heat-reducing and motion sickness medicine from the drawer, stuffing them into his hand, and said, "It's hot outside, remember not to stay outdoors for too long. Young Master Jun may not be able to handle it, and also...have fun."

Shi Jin flashed a brilliant smile, packed up all the medicine, and said, "Thank you, Uncle Long. I'm leaving now."

"Go ahead, go ahead." Uncle Long waved his hand in a dismissive manner and turned to walk towards the inner room.

Shi Jin saw this and turned around, striding eagerly towards the outside.

Uncle Long heard the footsteps and turned his head again, watching Shi Jin's figure disappear at the door. His furrowed brow relaxed, revealing a hint of a smile. "A date...young people are really something."

......

When Shi Jin returned to the dining room, Lian Jun had just finished his soup.

He rushed over to help Lian Jun in his wheelchair and said, "Let's go, Number Two has already brought the car out."

Lian Jun chuckled at his eager expression, which resembled that of a primary school student looking forward to a field trip. He leaned back in his wheelchair and let Shi Jin push him quickly.

"Are you happy to get revenge on Rong Zhouzhong?" he asked.

"Very happy!" Shi Jin didn't hide his excitement at all. He wished he could run with Lian Jun's wheelchair and said, "Rong Zhouzhong deserves a good beating. I can't wait to shove the centipede pillow in his face."

Lian Jun's lips curved slightly, infected by Shi Jin's enthusiasm. Suddenly, he too was looking forward to it.

As the car left the club, Shi Jin repeated the address where Rong Zhouzhong would be celebrating his birthday and then pulled out his tablet, asking, "Do you want to play two rounds?"

"Sure," Lian Jun replied, completely unaware of the small conspiracy between his subordinate and his lover, and also took out his tablet.

The sound effects of mahjong continued for about half an hour when suddenly Shi Jin's phone rang. He looked at it and frowned, saying, "It's my older brother. Young Master Jun, can you finish this game for me? I need to take this call."

Lian Jun also saw the incoming call notification on Shi Jin's phone and nodded, taking his tablet.

Shi Jin moved to the car door to answer the phone and said, "I'm ready."

"The preparations are complete," Number One's voice came through the receiver, deliberately lowered. When Shi Jin heard the news, his eyes lit up, but his face immediately turned unhappy. "Wasn't the celebration in the afternoon? Why did it change to the evening? I've already left...forget it, I'm not going." He hung up the phone without another word.

Lian Jun turned to him and asked, "What's wrong?"

Shi Jin frowned and replied, "Something came up with Rong Zhouzhong, and the birthday party was moved to the evening. We went out for nothing."

Seeing his disappointment and unhappiness, Lian Jun remembered his excitement earlier. He furrowed his brows and leaned over to hold his hand, comforting him, "Don't be upset. It's just moved to the evening. We didn't go out for nothing. How about I accompany you to other places first?"

That's exactly what he needed! Shi Jin was ecstatic in his heart, but his face still looked gloomy. He shook his head and said, "No, it's almost time for your nap. Since we have nothing to do this afternoon, let's just go back and make up for your nap."

Hearing this, Lian Jun felt even more heartbroken. He made up his mind to cheer Shi Jin up and turned his head to look out the window. He asked Number Two, "Is there any place nearby that we can go to have fun?"

Number Two pretended to think for a moment and replied, "Yes, there's a comprehensive shopping mall up ahead, a swimming pool further back, and a hotel a little further ahead. Where would you like to go, Young Master?"

After thinking for a moment, Lian Jun said, "Let's go to the shopping mall."

"Okay," Number Two replied, turning the steering wheel towards the shopping mall.

Shi Jin immediately pretended to object, saying, "There are too many people in the mall, it's not safe. Why don't we go to the hotel instead? You can take a nap."

"It's okay, we'll go watch a movie. I'll have someone clear out a screening room for us, so safety won't be a problem," reassured Lian Jun. He then called out to Number Two.

Number Two immediately understood and quickly made a phone call to Number Nine.

Number Nine answered the phone within seconds and acted along with Number Two.

Shi Jin listened to their conversation and cooperatively adjusted his mood, looking towards Lian Jun and intentionally asking, "Does this count as a date? Going to watch a movie together and all..."

Lian Jun hesitated for a moment, looking at the anticipation and joy in his eyes. His heart softened and he nodded, saying, "Next time, I'll plan a proper date for you."

"I'll be waiting," Shi Jin smiled and squeezed Lian Jun's hand. He turned his head to look out the window at the bustling cityscape, revealing a slightly cunning smile.

Everything was going according to plan, perfectly.

......

They arrived at the mall quickly. Under Number Nine's remote arrangement, the mall staff had been waiting at the entrance of the parking lot. As soon as they arrived, they greeted them and led them to the designated parking area. They took a private elevator to the fifth floor cinema.

"We've arranged for people to be stationed in the cinema lobby. Young Master Jun can move around freely without any problems. It's very safe," the mall manager reported. Lian Jun was very satisfied with the quick response of the staff at the mall. He nodded and turned to Shi Jin, asking, "Do you want to go straight to the movies now or do you want to wander around somewhere else first?"

"Let's go straight to the movies," Shi Jin replied, grabbing his wheelchair and happily rushing towards the bustling crowd, heading towards the ticket booth.

Number Two followed two steps behind them, scanning the disguised brothers scattered among the crowd, suppressing a laugh and continuing to follow Lian Jun and Shi Jin as if nothing had happened.

The movie theater was bustling on the weekend. Shi Jin excitedly pushed Lian Jun to the ticket booth, found the shortest line, pointed to the popular movie recommendations above the booth, and asked, "Which one do you want to see? Let's buy couple seats."

As the excitement of their sudden action subsided, Lian Jun looked around at the bustling crowd and instinctively frowned. "Next time, don't run around like that. It's very dangerous," he said.

"It's fine. The person in charge just said we can move freely," Shi Jin replied, patting his chest. "And even if something happens, I'll protect you."

Lian Jun wanted to say that they shouldn't let their guard down, but seeing Shi Jin's excited and happy face, he couldn't bear to dampen his spirits. So he suppressed his discomfort and turned to glance at Number Two. As soon as Number Two made a face that said "I understand, I will arrange things properly," he actually felt very relaxed.

The mall had already been planned out for today, and the majority of people on the fifth floor were those who could defend themselves, not just ordinary people without weapons. Safety was definitely not a problem.

Thinking that he was already on guard, Lian Jun withdrew his gaze and looked around the environment again. After the discomfort faded away, a hint of novelty slowly emerged.

From childhood to adulthood, he had always been isolated from ordinary people and surrounded by layers of protection. Doing things like queuing up to buy tickets and choosing a movie among ordinary people, like he was doing now, was like a fairy tale to him. The surroundings were bustling with strangers, a clear signal of danger. But as he breathed in the aroma of popcorn and listened to Shi Jin's cheerful introduction to the movie, he suddenly felt at ease.

There was a sense of security in the stability of his life.

He glanced at Shi Jin, who seemed to be adapting well to the environment. He wanted to tell him that they didn't need to queue up for tickets or choose a movie. The cinema had reserved a screening room just for them, and they could pick any movie they wanted. But he decided against it and relaxed his expression, asking Shi Jin, like the couple in front of them, "Which one do you think is good?"

Shi Jin paused for a moment, thinking, before suggesting, "Since this is our first date, how about we watch a romantic movie? Would that be okay?"

Lian Jun smiled and replied, "Of course."

As they walked ahead, their pace quickened and people began to follow behind them. Lian Jun, with his striking appearance and wheelchair, and Shi Jin, who was also quite handsome, stood intimately together, quickly drawing the attention of those around them.

A young girl approached Shi Jin, trying to strike up a conversation and get his contact information. Lian Jun's body tensed involuntarily, his brow furrowing.

Seeing this, Shi Jin turned to the side and casually placed his hand on Lian Jun's shoulder, smiling as he spoke to the girl, "I'm sorry, but this isn't my brother. He's actually my boyfriend, so I can't give you my contact information. He would get jealous. Sorry about that."

As Lian Jun's furrowed brow relaxed, he turned to Shi Jin and grasped his hand, saying, "It's our turn now."

Shi Jin snapped out of his daze, nodded in response, and waved goodbye to the girl before pushing Lian Jun towards the ticket counter.

A wistful sigh tinged with a strange excitement escaped the girl's lips as they walked away, and Lian Jun heard it, his lips curling into a faint smile.

"Next time we go out, I'm going to cover your face," Shi Jin suddenly whispered in Lian Jun's ear as they stood in front of the ticket counter, before straightening up and smiling at the ticket seller. They chose a movie and began selecting seats.

Lian Jun's eyes flickered, unable to see the ticket counter due to their seating position. Instead, he grabbed Shi Jin's drooping hand and asked, "Why?"

"Although the girl was talking to me, she was clearly looking at you. You're a real heartthrob," said Shi Jin, frowning and scolding. He chose the movie, took a picture of the seating chart with his phone, and squatted down to show it to him. "Where do you want to sit?"

Lian Jun's smile faded a little as he saw how considerate Shi Jin was being towards him. If only he could stand by Shi Jin's side like a normal person and pick seats together...

"Where do you want to sit?" Shi Jin asked again, then reached out his hand. "Give me money. You've caused a lot of trouble, so you have to pay for the movie ticket."

Lian Jun snapped out of his thoughts, looked at Shi Jin's pretend-angry face, and smiled again. He pointed to a spot towards the back, then reached for his pocket and found it empty. His expression froze for a moment, then he turned his head slightly and called out, "Number Two."

The invisible assistant, Number Two, obediently took out his wallet and handed it over. Lian Jun took the money and asked, "How much is it?"

Shi Jin suppressed a laugh, took out his wallet and threw it back to Number Two. He then took out Lian Jun's phone and said, "It's okay if you didn't bring money. This is our date, Number Two doesn't have to pay. Do you have a payment app with a linked card?"

Lian Jun shook his head. He never personally paid for anything, he just gave orders and it was done. He had plenty of cards, but no payment app.

"I'll pay first, and you can download a payment app and send me a red envelope later." Shi Jin bought the movie tickets on his phone, then led Lian Jun to the side and helped him download a payment app and link his card, while also sending himself a small red envelope.

Lian Jun let him have his way, and when he saw the red envelope, he asked, "Is this enough?"

"It's enough." Shi Jin opened the red envelope in front of him and showed him his wallet balance. He smiled and said, "The movie ticket is 130, the red envelope is 200, which leaves me with 70 extra. I'll go buy popcorn and drinks."

Lian Jun looked at his balance and couldn't help but pinch his face. "You're satisfied with just 200 yuan. You're so easy to please."

After buying popcorn and drinks, Shi Jin made Lian Jun hold onto the items and took out his phone to take a picture of them. He said it was to commemorate their first date.

Lian Jun looked at the popcorn on his knee and smiled lightly at Shi Jin.

......

The romantic movie was touching, but it was clearly not the cup of tea for Lian Jun, a big shot, and Shi Jin, a mahjong enthusiast. On the other side of the aisle, a girl was already crying, leaning in her boyfriend's arms and sobbing softly. Her boyfriend held her intimately and carefully wiped away her tears, showing great tenderness.

Lian Jun withdrew his gaze and looked at Shi Jin, who was sleeping soundly next to him. He felt a little helpless and a little amused. Following the other boy's actions, he raised the armrest between their chairs and hugged Shi Jin's slumped body, covering his ears to block out the noise.

Number Two sat behind the two, glancing at their embracing figures and feeling lonely and cold as he munched on his popcorn.

......

After the movie ended, Shi Jin stretched lazily and exclaimed, "That movie was so touching."

"You were watching it?" Lian Jun mercilessly exposed him, checking the time and asking, "Do you still want to go somewhere else?"

Feeling embarrassed, Shi Jin wiped his face to regain his composure and thought for a moment before suggesting, "Let's go play arcade games."

"Arcade games?" Lian Jun was puzzled.

"Yes, arcade games," Shi Jin nodded and pointed to the red envelope on his phone. "We only spent a little over forty yuan on popcorn, and we still have over twenty yuan left for our date. Why don't we go play games? I'm really good at grabbing dolls."

Just then, a couple walked past them, the girl holding a few small dolls and happily kissing the boy.

Lian Jun watched them closely and said seriously, "I think...I should be pretty good at grabbing dolls too."

As they watched the couple leave, Shi Jin laughed and said, "Shall we make a bet? The loser must obey the winner unconditionally, and the time limit is today. Are you in?"

Lian Jun met his gaze and took his hand. "The bet is on."

"I'm winning today," Shi Jin boasted, looking smug as he pushed Lian Jun towards the direction of the arcade.

Number Two lazily followed behind, rolling his eyes in disdain. "Childish."

Suddenly, Lian Jun turned around and gestured towards the arcade. As soon as Number Two's expression became serious, he gave a thumbs up to Lian Jun and pretended to take out his phone. He called Number Three and said, "Next stop, the arcade. Let's rig the claw machine and make sure Shi Jin wins."

"No problem," Number Three replied, and the background music changed from foreign language to familiar Chinese with a hint of laughter in his voice. "I'll take care of it."

......

At the arcade, Shi Jin eagerly exchanged his coins and gave half to Lian Jun. "We don't have enough coins, so we need to figure out a way to get more. Can you count cards?" he asked, pointing to a machine that resembled a gambling game.

Lian Jun nodded and followed his lead. He rubbed the coins in his hand and said, "I think I can."

"Let's earn some game coins first," said Shi Jin as he led Lian Jun to the card machine and inserted two coins.

Half an hour later, the two of them arrived at the claw machine with a small basket of game coins and each chose a machine.

"Ready?" Shi Jin asked.

Lian Jun's hand was already on the joystick and he nodded, "Let's go."

The sound effects started and the shutter sound followed.

Number Two leaned against the wall not far away, put down his camera, and muttered disdainfully, "What a childish way to make up for their childhood dreams..."

But after muttering, a smile unconsciously appeared on his face as he looked at Lian Jun playing with such concentration, feeling a sense of parental pride.

Life as an ordinary person is really not bad at all.

......

"Eight, nine... I have nine, how about you?" Shi Jin counted the dolls that were strung together and looked at Lian Jun, asking.

Lian Jun had no expression on his face and said, "A game for swindlers."

"Tsk tsk, clearly it's because your skills are lacking." Shi Jin bent down to count the dolls on Lian Jun's leg and said with a hint of pride, "You only have four, I won. You have to listen to me all day today."

Lian Jun raised his hand and tapped his forehead, saying, "Getting carried away."

Shi Jin grabbed his hand, not caring if they were in public or not, turned his head and kissed him on the lips, saying, "Let's seal the victory first. It's getting late, let's go eat?"

Lian Jun pursed his lips, looked at his face so close, raised his arm and hooked his neck, also giving him a kiss and saying, "Okay, where do you want to eat? I'll have someone reserve a spot."

Both of them had forgotten that they weren't really on a date, but were just killing time before the dinner party at Rong Zhouzhong's later that evening.

As Shi entered the station, he was about to follow his plan to take Lian Jun to their next date spot when his phone rang. He stood up straight and took out his phone, seeing that it was a call from Rong Zhouzhong. His soaring mood was immediately brought down, and he glanced at Lian Jun before answering the call.

"Where are you?" Rong Zhouzhong's pleasant voice came through the phone.

Shi slightly turned his body and replied, "We're outside, what's up?"

"The dinner is at six, and it's already past five. I just wanted to confirm where you are," Rong Zhouzhong explained. His tone suddenly changed, becoming ominous as he warned, "Shi Jin, I'm warning you. If you promised to come and then bail on me, don't think I won't mobilize my fans to track you down."

Shi Jin's heart skipped a beat. He thought to himself that Rong Zhouzhong was really ruthless. After considering for a moment, he said, "Am I that kind of person? Just wait, I will bring a gift and arrive on time." He hung up the phone and turned to look at Lian Jun.

Lian Jun asked, "Whose call was it?"

"It was my third brother's. He just apologized to me and strongly requested that I attend his birthday banquet," Shi Jin replied, squatting down and looking at Lian Jun. He helplessly added, "It seems like we don't need to reserve a spot for you at dinner."

Lian Jun's soaring mood fell slightly, but he regained some composure and reassured Shi Jin, "It's okay. Next time, I'll take you out to eat."

Shi Jin was moved and gave him another kiss.

......

Half an hour later, Number Two parked the car in front of Hejiahuan Restaurant. As soon as Shi Jin got off the car, he spotted a familiar figure waiting outside the restaurant and called out, "Fourth Brother."

Xiang Aoting immediately turned his head and upon seeing Shi Jin, his face lit up and he quickly walked over, saying, "You're here. Are you hungry? Let me take you in first. Big Brother and Third Brother are already here, and Second Brother and Fifth Brother will be here soon."

What? Fei Yujing is coming too? When did he come back to the country?

Shi Jin was surprised but didn't have time to ask for details. He said to Xiang Aoting, "Wait a minute, I brought my family with me. Let me help them out of the car first." He then went to the other side of the car, opened the door, and took out a wheelchair to assist Lian Jun out of the car.

"Hello." After Lian Jun was seated, he politely nodded to Xiang Aoting as a greeting. As soon as Xiang Aoting saw Lian Jun, the smile on his face disappeared in an instant. He furrowed his brows but didn't say anything, nodding in response and gesturing towards the restaurant. "Please come in, the restaurant has been booked by Old Third today, there are no outsiders, you can rest assured."

Shi Jin was very satisfied with the private booking and took out the gift he had prepared for Rong Zhouzhong from the trunk of the car, asking Lian Jun to help carry it. Then he pushed the wheelchair in the direction indicated by Xiang Aoting towards the restaurant.

The bag he used to hold the gift was very casual, just a regular shopping bag with an open mouth. So Xiang Aoting saw the stuffed pillow inside at a glance and curiously asked, "What is this?"

"It's a birthday gift I prepared for Third Brother," Shi Jin answered honestly.

With a helpless smile on his face, Xiang Aoting teased, "We're all college-bound students, why are you still acting like a child? Are you intentionally provoking Third Brother?"

Shi Jin simply replied without saying much.

But Xiang Aoting was serious. After thinking for a moment, he said, "That school is pretty good. I have a few veteran friends who went there after retiring, I'll have them look out for you. Police academy starts earlier than other schools, so you need to go for a physical examination first. Also, don't neglect your exercise during this time, be careful not to fall behind during military training."

Shi Jin thanked him politely, still not saying much. As Aoting noticed his indifference towards him, he let out a sigh in his heart. Seeing the private room right in front of them, he didn't say anything more and took a step forward to open the door for Shi Jin and Lian Jun.
