Death Progress Bar

Chapter 78 - Inspection (Bug Catching)

After returning to the club from the orphanage, Shi Jin was feeling down for quite some time. Seeing this, Lian Jun temporarily put aside his work and played mahjong with him on his tablet.

That night, Shi Jin slept restlessly, constantly dreaming. Sometimes it was the way Jian Chenghua spoke, and other times it was fragments of the original owner's memories. Various scenes floated around, disturbing his peace.

Half awake, he felt as though his body was being held in a warm embrace, with a gentle force patting his back. He wanted to open his eyes, but the dream held him back, preventing him from fully waking up.

Gradually, those floating scenes dissipated, turning into a peaceful darkness that put him at ease. As he woke up from his slumber, Shi Jin opened his eyes and saw Lian Jun sleeping soundly right beside him.

Remembering the feeling he had in his half-awake state, his eyes softened and he leaned in to embrace him, wrapping his arm around his back and gently tracing the prominent bones of his spine. A warm, fuzzy feeling swelled up inside him.

Once Lian Jun was fully recovered, he vowed to fatten him up until his spine was no longer visible. But what would a plump Lian Jun look like? He squinted at his handsome face and imagined it with a few extra pounds, causing him to burst out laughing.

Even if he did become a chubby guy, with his good looks, he would still be a very attractive one.

"What are you laughing at?" Lian Jun's tightly closed eyes suddenly opened, clear and bright, not at all like someone who had just woken up.

Shi Jin was taken aback for a moment, but then his smile grew wider and he wrapped Lian Jun in his arms like an octopus, rubbing his hair and back like he would with a child, and cheerfully said, "Good morning, my love!"

Xiao Si couldn't help but echo happily in Shi Jin's mind, "Good morning, big love and little love!"

Shi Jin laughed even more happily.

Lian Jun was caught off guard and was rubbed the right way by Shi Jin. Although he didn't understand why Shi Jin was so happy, he couldn't help but smile and put on a serious face, reaching out to grab Shi Jin's wandering hand and saying, "What are you doing? Let's have a cucumber feast today."

A cucumber feast, a term he hadn't heard in a long time.

As soon as Shi Jin's memory was pulled back to the time when they had just met, he couldn't help but laugh out loud. He furtively reached out and pulled Lian Jun's clothes, saying, "Great, let's start the cucumber feast now." After speaking, he tugged on Lian Jun's clothes.

Men can't resist teasing in the morning.

Lian Jun hurriedly held back Shi Jin's mischievous hand, looking at Shi Jin's messy hair and silly, mischievous smile as he slept.

With his other hand, Lian Jun couldn't help but reach around and press on the back of Shi Jin's neck, tilting his head up to kiss the corner of Shi Jin's mouth, which was slightly crooked in a mischievous angle, sealing all of their sweetness and recklessness between their lips.

......

The detailed condition of Lian Jun's body has always been kept confidential to the public. Outsiders only know that Lian Jun is disabled due to poisoning, but they do not know that he can still walk.

In order to prevent Lian Jun's physical condition from being known by outsiders, his physical examinations are always conducted in a private hospital, and this time is no exception.

Since Uncle Long arrived in B City, he had been busy arranging a place for Lian Jun to have his physical examination. Today, he finally got the place ready and can take Lian Jun for the examination. However, he found a small problem.

"You guys..." Uncle Long frowned and looked at Lian Jun and Shi Jin, who were sitting side by side on the sofa, one motionless like a mountain and the other turning his head nervously. His eyebrows twitched as he said, "What did I say before? You should have a light diet and avoid sexual activity, but you guys..."

"I swear, Young Master Jun and I didn't do anything," Shi Jin turned his head and explained with a sincere expression.

Uncle Long glared at him fiercely and said, "I don't believe you. Just look at your neck... Anyway, let's go. Grab your things and let's head to the hospital."

Shi Jin was shocked by his words and quickly raised his hand to cover his neck, staring at Lian Jun.

Lian Jun remained calm and unmoving, only looking at Uncle Long as he explained, "I know my own body. Don't worry, it won't affect the examination."

"Are you the doctor or am I the doctor? Are you sure it won't affect it just because you say so?" Uncle Long couldn't help but say, seeing Shi Jin looking like he was about to faint.

He reluctantly swallowed the rest of his complaints, instructed them to pack up and prepare to leave, then turned and walked away. After Uncle Long left, Shi Jin immediately rushed to Lian Jun's side and grabbed his collar, "Why didn't you explain to Uncle Long? We were clearly paying attention... Why did you let him misunderstand?"

Lian Jun held his hand and lifted it to his lips, giving it a kiss before asking, "Didn't you feel good just now?"

Shi Jin was taken aback, but he still tried to argue, "But you didn't! You clearly held it in! It's the same every time you get a massage, I'm afraid you'll hurt yourself by holding it in!"

"After the check-up," Lian Jun leaned in and gave him another kiss, soothingly saying, "Alright, let's get ready to go to the hospital. We have a lot of tests to do today."

After the check-up? What check-up? Why did it feel like he only said half of what he meant?

At first, Shi Jin was confused, but then he suddenly realized that Lian Jun meant he could relieve himself after the medical examination. His heart skipped a beat, but he quickly composed himself, held Lian Jun's face, looked at him seriously, and gave him a kiss before standing up straight and saying, "You said it yourself, no backing out. I'll go get the things."

Lian Jun touched his face and watched as Shi Jin packed his things, a smile deepening on his face.

......

The group left the club in two cars. Shi Jin played mahjong with Lian Jun in the car until he was interrupted by Number Two's announcement that they were almost there. When he looked outside, he was shocked, "Why did we end up in the university town?"

"Because the hospital I arranged is over here," Uncle Long replied from the passenger seat, giving him a cold stare over his shoulder. "Do you have a problem with that?"

Shi Jin immediately recognized the importance of the situation and replied, "No, no... But why did our hospital end up in the university district? Isn't it a bit too lively here?"

He had thought that the location for the examination arranged by Uncle Long would be like the Nightfall, in a good geographical location but relatively quiet.

Number Two explained, "B City is different from other cities. We can't openly open a hospital here, so we have to use a cover. The environment here in the university district is relatively simple and convenient to conceal."

Shi Jin seemed to understand but not quite, his gaze wandered outside. Suddenly, he remembered when he was shot in the shoulder and was taken to a private clinic in the university district by Li Jiuzheng. He furrowed his brow with unease and nervously looked at the road outside.

Speaking of which, surely he wouldn't run into Li Jiuzheng again here. After all, among the long list of Li Jiuzheng's senior brothers, there were several who had opened clinics/taught as professors/practiced medicine/become bosses in B City, and their activities definitely included the university town!

Xiao Si comforted him kindly, "Don't worry, coincidences like that are rare in this world."

Shi Jin thought about it and agreed. He shifted his gaze back to Lian Jun and continued playing mahjong.

......

The convoy drove around the university town, finally hugging the wall of a certain old medical university and turning into a nearby affiliated sanatorium, driving straight in.

Shi Jin was stunned and asked in shock, "Is this what you call a cover-up? You directly put up a sign saying it's affiliated with a university? That's too much!"

"This is not just a convenient cover-up, it's completely hidden!" Number Two explained with a plain face, "Hanging the label of a university affiliate can get you many policy benefits. Young Master Jun spent money to build a new campus for this university just for the label. And because this nursing home was established through proper channels and without any official connections, even if the authorities know that we own it, they can't do anything about it. They can't interfere."

Shi Jin: "..." Money really can buy anything.

"You're going to lose the game," Lian Jun lightly patted Shi Jin on the shoulder.

Shi Jin snapped out of his thoughts and turned to look at Lian Jun. He leaned in close, sticking to him tightly - this smart and handsome baby was his, and he would protect him well.

......

As the car entered the gate of the sanatorium, the surroundings quickly became peaceful. Shi Jin looked at the lush greenery on both sides of the road and the beautifully designed buildings hidden among the greenery, and sighed, "The environment here is really good."

"If you like it, we can stay here for two days," Lian Jun suggested thoughtfully.

Shi Jin quickly shook his head and said, "No, let's just finish the check-up and go back immediately. Even though the environment here is good, it's still a hospital. It's not as comfortable as home."

Home.

Lian Jun liked how he described the place where they lived together and said, "Okay, let's go back home after the check-up."

......

The car stopped in front of a comprehensive building at the deepest part of the sanatorium. A doctor in a white coat was already waiting at the door and hurried over to help open the door when the car stopped.

These people seemed to be Uncle Long's subordinates, speaking to him with respect. Uncle Long took the documents they handed over and asked about the preparation of various inspection equipment while flipping through them. After confirming that there were no problems, he personally pushed Lian Jun into the comprehensive building and headed straight to the location of the first inspection project.

Lian Jun's physical condition was quite special. In addition to some routine inspection projects, he also had to undergo some special and time-consuming inspections that required large and special equipment.

Shi Jin accompanied Lian Jun for the morning routine check-up, had lunch, and was about to continue accompanying Lian Jun for the afternoon special check-up after finishing his meal. However, he was kicked out by Uncle Long because the afternoon check-up was more detailed and only doctors and patients were allowed inside.

He had no choice but to stay outside, slumped on a bench outside the examination room, staring blankly at the progress bar of Lian Jun.

After Number Two and Number Five finished their shift and had dinner, they strolled by and saw Shi Jin looking like he had lost his soul. They were speechless for a few seconds, then walked up to him and pulled him up, saying, "It's just a physical check-up. Look at your expression... Come on, let's go outside and improve your mood. You don't want Young Master Jun to come out after the check-up and see your miserable face, do you?"

Shi Jin was a little reluctant to go, but he couldn't resist Number Two's strength and was forcibly dragged away.

The two of them arrived outside the comprehensive building and stood foolishly in front of a flower bed, looking at the sun for a while. Finally, Number Two couldn't help it anymore, raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead, and said, "It's really hot today."

Shi Jin looked at him expressionlessly, tugged at his arm that was still being held, and wanted to go back to the building.

"Don't go, Number Five and Number Nine are guarding inside the building. If we go back, we'll just be staring at each other, how boring." Number Two firmly held onto Shi Jin's arm and thought for a moment.

With a sudden flash of inspiration, he said, "Why don't we go to the neighboring university for a stroll? Your college entrance exam results will be out soon, I'll take you there to experience the university atmosphere in advance, how about that?"

Shi Jin didn't cooperate at all and replied, "I don't want to go."

Number Two said fiercely, "You have to go even if you don't want to. I have more experience than you, so you have to listen to me."

Shi Jin rolled his eyes directly, turned around and wanted to leave, but Number Two used a grappling hand to pull him back and dragged him towards the side door that connected the sanatorium and the university.

......

As Number Two pulled and dragged Shi Jin into the neighboring university, like a magician, he pulled out a map from his pocket and said as they walked, "Take a look at this university, it's an old and prestigious one, it has produced countless outstanding talents, the academic atmosphere is great, the campus is spacious, the cafeteria food is delicious, and most importantly, it has a cooperation with Young Master Jun. It's simply the best choice!"

Shi Jin glanced at him sideways.

Number Two continued with a stiff smile, "You don't have to be locked up like in the police academy here, you have complete freedom. Smell the air, it's especially fresh here, filled with the scent of academia and youth."

"I only smell the scent of formaldehyde," said Shi Jin, showing no mercy and crushing his friend's little scheme. "Give it up, I won't change my mind. I want to go to the police academy, I won't study medicine, not in this lifetime. Number Two, I misjudged you. You betrayed me and became a mouthpiece for Uncle Long!"

The second act of the play was interrupted, and Number Two put the university map back into his pocket, bored. He asked Shi Jin, "Are you really determined to go to the police academy? You don't have any other interests besides not studying medicine. There are so many universities and majors, don't you have any other passions?"

Shi Jin was resolute, "No, besides being a police officer, my other dream is to be a boss like Young Master Jun, but they don't teach that in university."

With a look of "If I believe you, I must be a fool," Number Two said, "Your dream is really unique."

"It's all thanks to the influence of my seniors," Shi Jin humbly replied.

Number Two choked up, knowing that his persuasion plan had completely failed. He released Shi Jin's arm unkindly and pointed to the nearby college convenience store, saying, "Go, this senior wants to eat a popsicle. As a newcomer, you should be aware of your duties."

Shi Jin didn't hesitate to pull out Number Two's wallet from his pocket and headed towards the convenience store without looking back.

Number Two glared and angrily cursed.

Five minutes later, Shi Jin met Li Jiuzheng at the college convenience store's frozen section, and his heart sank. Sometimes, when a person is unlucky, whatever they think or don't think, it just happens.

Xiao Si looked like its system had short-circuited. It had previously comforted itself that there were not so many coincidences in the world, but reality had just given it a big slap in the face.

Li Jiuzheng looked very different from last time. He was wearing a clean and refreshing sky blue short-sleeved shirt and coffee-colored casual pants, with a leather bag slung over his shoulder and a pair of black-framed glasses on his nose. After suppressing his crazy killing intent, he looked like a harmless and inexperienced college student.

But Shi Jin would not forget how dangerous he was. He hated Number Two for dragging him out and himself for being a jinx.

"W-what a coincidence," he spoke first, raising his hand in greeting before slowly retreating and politely saying, "Please take your time browsing, I'll go pay."

After speaking, he turned around and tried to leave.

"Wait a minute." Li Jiuzheng suddenly reached out and grabbed his arm, blocking him between himself and the shelves. He asked, "What are you doing here? Second Brother said you participated in this year's college entrance examination. Are you here to take the exam?"

Why does Fei Yujing talk so much?

Although furious inside, Shi Jin remained calm and checked his progress bar. Seeing that it hadn't increased, he felt a little relieved and replied, "No, I'm just bored and came to take a look. I really have to go now. Can you please let me pass?" He tried to walk out tentatively.

Li Jiuzheng looked at him for a few seconds and then stepped aside.

Shi Jin breathed a sigh of relief and left without looking back, not bothering to be polite. After smoothly finishing their shopping and leaving the supermarket, Shi Jin suddenly shoved an ice cream cone into Number Two's face and pulled him towards the direction of the nursing home.

"What's with that expression? Did you see a ghost?" Number Two asked, looking puzzled.

Shi Jin replied, "I did see a ghost. Li Jiuzheng was there, and I just ran into him."

"Li Jiuzheng?" Number Two raised an eyebrow and turned to look back at the supermarket. Just then, Li Jiuzheng walked out of the store and looked over in their direction.

Number Two opened his ice cream and took a bite, saying, "Why are you so scared? You already ran into him. If he tries to attack you again, just pull out your gun and shoot him. Get revenge for last time."

Shi Jin's footsteps halted as he realized his current situation. However, it was completely different from the last time he encountered Li Jiuzheng. Not only was he unharmed, but he also had a lethal weapon on him. If he were to really clash with Li Jiuzheng, it might not be him who would suffer.

Moreover, he still hadn't avenged himself for the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Li Jiuzheng last time.

Feeling a little aggrieved, he stopped and turned his head towards the entrance of the supermarket. He saw Li Jiuzheng standing there, looking in his direction. He unknowingly waved at him. But then he turned his head back and said, "Forget it. When will the cycle of revenge end? Let's go. Young Master Jun's examination should be over soon."

"Examinations are never that quick," Number Two muttered, but didn't say anything more. He walked with Shi Jin towards the sanatorium. After a long day of medical examinations, Lian Jun finally finished just before dinner. When he emerged from the examination room, he looked terrible - his face was pale, he was sweating, and his forehead was creased.

Shi Jin was alarmed when he saw Lian Jun's condition and rushed over to take his wheelchair. He noticed that Lian Jun's legs were shaking uncontrollably and immediately began to worry. He turned to Uncle Long and asked, "What's going on? Did the examination not go well?"

Uncle Long, however, had a hint of joy on his face and replied, "Don't be silly. The examination went smoothly. Lian Jun has taken good care of his health this year, and all of his test results are good. Keep it up and strive to reach the standard for treatment as soon as possible."

Despite Uncle Long's reassurance, Shi Jin was still concerned and asked, "But what about Young Master Jun's legs...?"

"I'm fine," Lian Jun held onto Shi Jin's hand and reassured him, "It's just some preliminary stimulation therapy. I'll be fine soon. Let's go home, it's almost dinner time."

Hearing this, Uncle Long couldn't help but furrow his brows and said, "I told you to take it easy and test in segments, but you insisted on pushing yourself. Alright, alright, I won't say anything more. You go back, and I'll stay here to wait for the detailed results. Once we have a preliminary treatment plan, I'll come back."

Lian Jun withdrew his warning gaze towards Uncle Long, squeezed Shi Jin's hand, and changed the subject, "I'm a little thirsty. Can you go get me a glass of water?"

Shi Jin was not foolish. He only needed to hear half of what Uncle Long said to know that Lian Jun must have wanted to end the examination as soon as possible and asked Uncle Long to speed up the process. He felt a little uncomfortable and obediently went to pour water for Lian Jun.

After resting for a while at the sanatorium, everyone said goodbye to Uncle Long and got back in the car to return to the club. Lian Jun's physical discomfort gradually eased after a short rest. His legs stopped shaking and his complexion looked much better. Shi Jin breathed a sigh of relief and gently touched his leg, feeling a little heartache.

But if the examination was already this uncomfortable, how much worse would the treatment be?

"I'm really fine," Lian Jun reassured him and gestured towards the small fridge in the car, saying, "We still have a while before we get back to the club. Are you hungry? Have something to eat."

Shi Jin couldn't eat anything and shook his head, asking, "What does Uncle Long mean by striving to reach the standard for treatment as soon as possible? Is your current physical condition not suitable for treatment?"

"Well, almost there," Lian Jun nodded and replied, "My situation is special. The toxins in my body have been dragging on for too long. If I undergo treatment, it may re-activate the toxins in my body. I must first improve my physical condition a bit before taking medication, otherwise I won't be able to handle it."

Shi Jin didn't expect detoxification to be so troublesome and asked, "So what standard does your body need to reach? Gain five or ten pounds?"

Number Two couldn't help but laugh and said, "Are you trying to feed a pig? Getting fat doesn't necessarily mean you're healthy."

Shi Jin stared at him - who was he calling a pig?!

Lian Jun laughed at Shi Jin's words and replied, "We'll have to wait for Uncle Long's results for a specific treatment plan. Don't worry, you said it yourself, the best treatment takes time."

"I'm not worried," Shi Jin retorted, knowing that his anxious speculations were pointless. He closed his mouth and didn't bring up the topic again.
