Chapter 155 - Chase! Part 1

On the third day, the meeting arrived. As soon as Shi Jin stepped into the conference room, he noticed that his progress bar had increased again, reaching 650.

He calmly scanned the people in the room, his gaze pausing briefly on Yuan Peng before moving on. He then walked to his seat and sat down.

Today's meeting was particularly important. It involved re-registering organizational information and collecting a new list of approved candidates for legal criminal organisations.

The leaders of each organization were noticeably more cautious and serious. Shi Jin also put on a serious expression, sitting upright and not flipping through any materials or playing with his phone.

The meeting began and everyone cooperated with Zhang Zhuoyuan to re-register the organizational information. Then, as usual, they each received a blank piece of paper from Zhang Zhuoyuan. Afterwards, Zhang Zhuoyuan announced a half-hour break for everyone to carefully consider their list.

Shi Jin took his blank paper and left the meeting room. He approached Fei Yujing and Li Jiuzheng and whispered to them.

After the half-hour break, Shi Jin returned to the meeting room and wrote something on his blank paper. He then handed the paper to Zhang Zhuoyuan.

The other leaders of the organizations were all surprised by this. Since the official meetings began, every year at this stage, they would simply give up on recommending anyone. But this year, Shi Jin actually wrote something on his blank paper and handed it to Zhang Zhuoyuan.

"Is this finally the start of recommending a new organization for registration? Why now? Is Annihilation planning to expand its influence? Which new organization will be recommended?" Questions kept popping up, disrupting the previously calm atmosphere of the meeting. Everyone secretly glanced at Shi Jin, trying to guess which organization he would recommend. Some even couldn't resist the urge to sneak a peek at Zhang Zhuoyuan's notes.

Meng Qing and Qi Yun exchanged a knowing look, then each submitted their own blank paper.

The blank papers were quickly collected and Zhang Zhuoyuan and his assistant sorted out the recommended list, made copies, and distributed them to everyone. The meeting was adjourned.

Shi Jin strolled leisurely with the list in hand, while the other leaders of the organization watched him leave. They lowered their heads and glanced at the list, unable to help but speculate which organization Shi Jin would recommend.

After lunch, Meng Qing called Lu Shan and others for a conference call.

"Lu Shan, you understand Annihilation better. Which organization on this list do you think Annihilation would recommend?" Meng Qing asked for Lu Shan's opinion first, showing that she valued her input and hoping to appease her in case she was still upset about yesterday's incident.

Lu Shan played along and appeared to be pacified. She lowered her voice and replied, "Based on my understanding of Annihilation, I don't think he recommended a new organization to Zhang Zhuoyuan this time. His actions this morning were meant to disrupt us. In fact, he has been doing the same thing for the past three days - making different moves or revealing important information to arouse our speculation and discussion, leading us to follow his rhythm. I think we should be more rational now, shift our focus away from what he reveals or does, and concentrate on analyzing the reasons behind his actions in order to uncover his true intentions."

Qi Yun actually admired her calmness and focus, but... "No, it's true that Shi Jin recommended an organization to Zhang Zhuoyuan this time. I calculated the number of organizations with recommendation quotas and found that it matches the number on the list perfectly," he pointed out.

After thinking for a moment, he continued, "But Lu Shan is right. We have been too concerned about Shi Jin's movements these past few days. Anyway, let's first discuss the organizations we have recommended to avoid accidentally hurting our companions. This is currently the most important thing for us."

"Qi Yun is right," Yuan Peng responded first, then mentioned the name of the organization he recommended.

Meng Qing frowned when Qi Yun quickly took the lead in speaking, but didn't say anything and followed suit by mentioning the organization she recommended. Lu Shan followed closely behind, and finally, it was Qi Yun's turn.

After some exchange, four organizations on the list were eliminated, leaving nearly twenty remaining. Lu Shan took the initiative to speak up, saying, "If Shi Jin really recommended an organization, knowing the way Annihilation and Lian Jun operate, it's likely to be a lesser-known small group or a relatively low-key medium-sized organization. The overall strength of the organization may not be strong, but their geographical location or business structure is definitely impressive.

"However, I still don't recommend that we pay too much attention to Shi Jin's recommendation this time, because it's not very meaningful. Even if Annihilation adds another small group to their roster, it won't have a significant impact on the situation."

"I don't think so," Meng Qing denied her statement, putting on the airs of a senior. "I've been operating for decades, and I've seen countless disputes. In my experience, the more detailed the situation, the more attention it needs. The background of Shi Jin is complex, and his position is unclear. The organization he recommends must be thoroughly investigated. What do you think, Yuan Peng?"

Suddenly called out, Yuan Peng was stunned for a moment, then immediately stood on his side, supporting him to continue digging deeper. As the member with the weakest voice in the alliance, he needed this opportunity to speak.

Lu Shan couldn't help but sneer.

In the end, under Meng Qing's leadership, Yuan Peng's flattery, and Qi Yun's silence, Lu Shan's opinion was once again ignored, and everyone "unanimously" decided to dig deeper into the organization recommended by Shi Jin.

Lu Shan listened coldly to their discussion, filled with mockery in her heart. As expected, arrogant people were the easiest to handle. As long as she took the initiative to eliminate the correct option, Meng Qing would automatically lead everyone in the wrong direction.

......

The afternoon meeting began, and Zhang Zhuoyuan began announcing the information of each recommended organization in order according to the list, allowing everyone to vote and discuss whether to hang the organization's sign.

The atmosphere in the meeting room became tense, and everyone was on high alert, ready to face this battle without gunpowder.

"The information for the first organization has been announced, and everyone can express their opinions now," Zhang Zhuoyuan announced according to the procedure.

Shi Jin was the first to speak up. He pulled out a document from under his arm and said, "I don't think the organization called 'Empty Nest' is suitable for registration. I used my lunch break to have my second brother look up some information. Look here, the city where this 'Empty Nest' organization is located has had frequent disputes over high-interest loans in the past year. Members of this organization have repeatedly been taken to the police station for violent debt collection and personal injury. Recently, they have even been involved in a murder case. Such an illegal business structure and unscrupulous behavior, I don't think it's suitable for registration."

Everyone turned to look at Shi Jin, their eyes fixed on the document in his hand, their expressions stiff. When it was his turn to speak, Shi Jin was the first to criticize the list. He had even prepared the necessary information in such a short amount of time. His approach was so different from that of Lian Jun, who seemed to be indifferent to everything.

"A murder case?" Zhang Zhuoyuan immediately became serious. He took the information from Shi Jin and flipped through it. Then his expression darkened and he made a decision on the spot to disband the organization. With a stern face, he said, "The leader of this organization who recommended it should contact me separately later. I need to know why you recommended this organization."

The atmosphere in the conference room suddenly became heavy. Everyone was surprised that Shi Jin was able to easily disband an organization from the list. Yuan Peng's face darkened as he glared at Shi Jin with a sinister expression, his hand tightly clenched.

Yes, this Empty Nest organization was the one he had recommended. Snake Fang was in desperate need of money, so he had arranged for a few illegal small groups to be formed, engaging in high-interest lending. This Empty Nest was the best and cleanest one among them, and his original intention was to expand the organization through listing. However, he never expected that Shi Jin would uncover all the news and cases that he had already suppressed.

It was only noon, how did Shi Jin manage to uncover all of this? Or did Shi Jin already know that he was going to recommend the Empty Nest, so he had prepared in advance? Could there be a traitor within Snake Fang?

The more he thought about it, the more his hatred for Shi Jin grew in his heart.

As Shi Jin glanced at his progress bar suddenly jumping to 700, he raised an eyebrow in amusement.

Guess what? Even if you try, you'll never guess that these materials were actually voluntarily provided by Zhang Zhuoyuan. Who else, besides the government, could dig up all the suppressed news and cases in such a short amount of time? It's truly foolish to think otherwise.

After his grand entrance, Shi Jin resumed his quiet demeanor and refrained from poking at other potential organizations. His unpredictable behavior had left the other leaders on edge, but they soon relaxed.

However, their guard was quickly raised again as leaders from larger organizations, especially Yuan Peng, unexpectedly began to attack and take down several groups with a show of force.

The atmosphere in the conference room sank to an all-time low. The leaders recommended by the organization were baffled and frustrated. They couldn't understand why this year's leaders had suddenly become so strict. They had rejected all the recommended organizations that would have easily passed in previous years, and seemed to have no intention of giving any other organizations a chance to develop.

As the list was being reviewed, more than half of the organizations had already been rejected. Everyone was on the verge of laughing out loud because not a single backup organization had passed. Oh wait, there was one that had passed, but it was obviously recommended by one of the major organizations as a sub-organization. It was no surprise that they had passed!

The atmosphere of discontent slowly brewed as Shi Jin calculated his timing. Just as Yuan Peng was about to bite down on another organization, Shi Jin spoke up, "Senior Yuan, aren't you going a bit too far? I know you want to take down the organization I recommended, but by firing indiscriminately and leaving no room for anyone else, don't you think it's unfair to other hardworking organizations? As for me, even though I also want to take down the organization you recommended, I wouldn't cast a wide net and attack randomly. Instead, I would conduct thorough investigations and strike with precision."

The leaders of the various organizations, who were secretly annoyed, couldn't help but look at him in surprise when they saw him stand up for everyone. As soon as the words "precise strike" were uttered, Yuan Peng's face immediately turned sour. The expressions of Meng Qing and Qi Yun also changed slightly, but Lu Shan directly retorted, saying, "We only did what we always do every year. What is Deputy Leader Shi's intention in labeling us like this?"

Qi Yun saw Lu Shan speak up and thought to himself that this was not good. She shouldn't have spoken up. In this kind of atmosphere, Shi Jin had already gained the upper hand in people's hearts, and there was no benefit to arguing with him. Moreover...

He flipped through the list and felt that something was not right. When they decided to take down the organizations recommended to them, they immediately screened the list and only planned to target the most suspicious ones, without intending to "open fire" indiscriminately. However, strangely enough, all the organizations they suspected were concentrated in the first half of the meeting, which led everyone to feel like they were under a blanket attack.

It seemed like they had fallen into a trap, and Shi Jin was deliberately provoking them.

"I just hope that the seniors can be a little more tolerant towards the juniors. We all have to live our lives, being too arrogant will only make people dislike us," said Shi Jin with a hidden meaning.

Suddenly, he pulled out a document and said, "Director Zhang, I don't think the Three Provinces organization recommended by Tarantula is suitable for listing. According to my investigation, although Three Provinces seems to be just a transportation organization on the surface, they are actually involved in smuggling, trafficking in prohibited goods and people."

Everyone was stunned, only to realize that Director Zhang had just announced the next recommended organization, and that organization was Three Provinces.

"Is this the organization recommended by Tarantula?" Everyone looked towards Lu Shan with suspicion.

Lu Shan's expression darkened as the recommended organization was exposed. She turned her head fiercely towards Shi Jin. Shi Jin confidently handed the documents to Zhang Zhuoyuan and called out, "Director Zhang."

Zhang Zhuoyuan snapped out of his thoughts and glanced at Lu Shan before reaching out to take the documents. He quickly flipped through them and his expression darkened. He couldn't help but say, "I have emphasized repeatedly that the recommended organization must not have any involvement in serious crimes or loss of life. Do you all just ignore my words?"

Lu Shan retorted, "Three Provinces had only a few violations in the past. After I took over, they changed their business structure. Shi Jin is just nitpicking."

"Can a past record of an organization's wrongdoing be erased just because there's a new boss? That's not how it works," Shi Jin argued back, refusing to back down.

"Enough, the qualifications of the Three Provinces are revoked. Everyone quiet down and discuss!" Zhang Zhuoyuan made the final decision and revoked the Three Provinces.

Lu Shan slammed the table in anger.
