Chapter 153 - Kill Him Part 1

The moonlight was chilly as Shi Jin sat on the single sofa by the window, staring at the progress bar in his mind that belonged to Lian Jun. He was feeling low and absent-minded.

What was Lian Jun doing now? Had he already gone to sleep?

Shi Jin held the satellite phone in his hand but didn't call back.

Xiao Si was puzzled and said, "Jin Jin, if you want to talk to your baby, you can just call him. I'm sure he's thinking of you too."

"I know, but what if he's resting? I don't want to disturb him," Shi Jin replied.

After speaking, he noticed that Lian Jun's progress bar suddenly dropped by one point. He sat up straight in surprise after confirming that the progress bar had indeed dropped by one point. Then he exclaimed in excitement. Ever since Lian Jun fell into a long coma, his progress bar had been stuck at 500, only going up and never dropping below that number. But now, the progress bar that he had wished to see drop to zero had miraculously changed to 499!

What did this mean? It meant that Lian Jun's condition was improving! Even if it was only by one point, it was still progress towards getting out of danger.

Shi Jin couldn't contain his excitement and quickly dialed Uncle Long's number on his phone. After confirming that Lian Jun was awake, he then called Lian Jun's number.

The phone was answered immediately, and Shi Jin held his phone tightly, too overwhelmed to speak.

"How was the meeting today? Did anyone give you a hard time?" The gentle voice of Lian Jun came through, like a spell being broken.

Shi Jin breathed a sigh of relief and happily replied, "It went smoothly. No one gave me any trouble. And you, did you oversleep today? Did you eat well?"

"I didn't oversleep, had three good meals, and even watched some TV in the afternoon," Lian Jun's voice sounded much stronger than the last time they spoke. Shi Jin was overjoyed and continued to ask, "What did Uncle Long say? Can you maintain your current condition? Have any new symptoms appeared?"

"No, the toxin's active period has passed. Uncle Long said there won't be any new symptoms. And you, did you eat and sleep well on the ship?"

After boarding the ship, Shi Jin's daily routine had been thrown off balance. Feeling a bit guilty, he changed the subject and asked, "Lian Jun, can we switch to video chat? I want to see you."

There was a moment of silence from Lian Jun's end before he replied, "Sorry, I can't. I'm a bit busy right now."

Shi Jin assumed that Lian Jun must be receiving treatment or not feeling well, making it difficult for him to video chat. His mood sank again, and he replied softly.

Suddenly, Lian Jun spoke up, "The ring."

Shi Jin was taken aback, "What ring?"

"The one you gave me. I really like it," Lian Jun's voice carried a smile as he said, "I want you to put it on me in person."

Shi Jin looked at the ring on his hand and smiled, saying, "After the meeting is over, I'll put the ring on for you again... It's late, you should rest early. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

After hanging up the phone, Shi Jin sighed with reluctance as he looked at his phone. He really wanted to go back and see Lian Jun...

"Jin Jin! The progress bar for the baby is steadily dropping! It's at 498!" Xiao Si suddenly exclaimed with excitement.

"What?" Shi Jin was shocked and quickly looked at the progress bar in his mind. After seeing that Lian Jun's progress bar had indeed dropped to 498, he stood up in one swift motion and spun around in excitement and happiness. "What's going on? Why does it keep dropping? Did Uncle Long come up with a new treatment method? Is Lian Jun getting better?"

Xiao Si was grinning from ear to ear and exclaimed loudly, "Definitely! Our precious baby is going to get better!"

After a meaningless conversation between the two of them, Shi Jin rushed into the bathroom to take a quick shower before throwing himself onto the bed.

"It's already at 497... I should sleep early. Maybe when I wake up, Lian Jun's progress bar will have dropped to 400... Sleep, sleep!" Shi Jin took a deep breath and suppressed his desire to keep staring at the progress bar. He forced himself to close his eyes and went to sleep with high hopes.

......

Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, Lian Jun's face turned pale as he put down his phone and finally couldn't help but groan in pain. Uncle Long frowned and stood to the side, unable to bear saying, "Why do you have to do this? Can't you just slowly treat it? You insist on using this instrument. Although it can quickly stimulate the remaining toxins in your body and then rapidly use medicine to eliminate them, the process is too torturous and burdensome on the body. I brought this for you to thoroughly detoxify and consolidate the effectiveness of the medicine, not for you to torture yourself like this..."

"It's okay, Dr. Shao said I can use this now, and it's not too uncomfortable," argued Lian Jun, but his drenched body and head didn't lend much credibility to his words.

Shao Jianping carefully adjusted the instrument's values and said, "Mr. Lian, please don't speak and conserve your energy. Hold on a little longer, and try not to faint."

Lian Jun heard this and quickly closed his mouth, adjusting his breathing and gritting his teeth. Uncle Long watched with a growing sense of frustration. While he knew that it was technically possible for Lian Jun to use this device, as someone who had watched Lian Jun grow up, he was more inclined to recommend a conservative, long-term treatment plan that would spare him unnecessary suffering.

Thinking this, he couldn't help but glance over at Shao Jianping, his forehead veins bulging. It was all Shao Jianping's fault, always playing with big things and saying strange things to Lian Jun! Were all doctors like this, just listening to their patients and not knowing how to properly treat them?

As if sensing his resentment, Shao Jianping suddenly turned his head and looked at him, saying, "Dr. Long, maintaining a patient's psychological well-being is also part of the treatment. Your concern is causing chaos."

Uncle Long was so angry that his face twitched, but he held his tongue and stormed out of the hospital room in frustration.

......

Early in the morning, Shi Jin was disappointed to see that Lian Jun's progress bar had only dropped to 490, a far cry from his expected 400. But he quickly picked himself up and started to tidy up - it's okay, a drop means things are improving! Lian Jun's body was destined to be nurtured slowly and carefully, and there was no rushing it.

The content of the meeting the next day was relatively relaxed, discussing the situation of all illegal criminal organisations in the country. Shi Jin once again entered the meeting room with a pile of materials, burying his head in them as soon as he sat down.

The leaders of each group silently shifted their gaze towards him, eyeing his materials with itching curiosity.

What could be in those materials that Fei Yujing had found? They were so curious that they even wanted to sneak a peek if they could.

Lu Shan, the only one who had the privilege of peeking, noticed everyone's situation. She remembered her conversation with Shi Jin yesterday and couldn't help but roll her eyes in her mind at the foolish organization leaders. They had been played by Shi Jin and didn't even know it.

The information Shi Jin had was indeed data, but not the kind they thought it was. It was just basic introductory information about various organizations and their leaders. Shi Jin was just familiarizing himself with the basic situation and recognizing people on the spot.

Shi Jin had only done what all newcomers would do, and even worse than most. He only remembered to familiarize himself with the enemy's situation right before the battle. But those seniors were all nervous and guessing because Shi Jin had said something ambiguous to Fei Yujing.

She couldn't help but laugh at the thought of it. She couldn't think about it anymore, or she would burst out laughing. Lu Shan covered half of her face and made a disgusted expression, turning her head away from the scene.

The meeting started on time, with Zhang Zhuoyuan pointing out the various illegal criminal organisations that had been active in the country that year, explaining their profiles and crimes. He then began to urge the leaders of the legal organizations present to step forward and help the government eliminate these cancerous organizations.

Some of the organization leaders below responded, some pretended to be ignorant, some tried to take advantage of the situation, and some wanted to push their enemies out to die. Everyone had their own calculations. Shi Jin observed everyone's reactions with his peripheral vision, covered the documents in his hand, leaned back in his chair, and started playing with his phone.

Zhang Zhuoyuan: "..." You might as well just go to sleep!

Meng Qing couldn't help but speak up when he saw the situation in front of him. "Deputy Leader Shi, suppressing and eradicating illegal criminal organisations is also one of our duties. Isn't what you're doing a bit inappropriate?"

Shi Jin's hands didn't stop as he looked up at him and said, "Yes, it's not appropriate. But to be honest, I've only recently become the deputy leader of Annihilation and haven't had a chance to discuss with Lian Jun about our attitude towards illegal organizations. So to avoid saying too much and making mistakes, I have to do it this way. But don't worry, Lian Jun will contact Director Zhang separately about this matter. Annihilation has never forgotten our duties."

The phrase "separately contact" caught everyone's attention, and they pondered over it.

Meng Qing nodded and said, "I see. It seems that Deputy Leader Shi is only responsible for a portion of Annihilation's affairs."

The atmosphere in the room was tense as they all wondered what would happen next. "Well, after all, I'm still a student and I have to go to school. I don't have much time to help Lian Jun with work," Shi Jin replied casually, frowning and muttering to himself, "Actually, I skipped class to come to this year's meeting and didn't even report. Lian Jun might not let me come next year."

Ah? A student? Skipping class?

The leaders of the organization were a bit dumbfounded - how long has it been since they heard these everyday words from the normal world? Ten years? Twenty years?

No, no, that's not the point. The point is, if Shi Jin is still a student, wouldn't it be easy to find out which school he attends and have a detailed grasp of his movements for at least half a year? This is great news! A deputy leader with a fixed location is much easier to investigate and handle than one with an unpredictable location!

Meng Qing was surprised that Shi Jin would so easily reveal his personal information. He looked him up and down, testing the waters as he continued the conversation, "Judging by Deputy Leader Shi's age, he should be in college, right? I heard Deputy Leader Shi grew up in M country, and as far as I know, schools in M country..."

Shi Jin quickly waved his hand and said, "No, no, I went to school in China, I'm studying in the po..."

"Cough, cough, cough, cough!" Suddenly, Zhang Zhuoyuan coughed loudly, making a commotion with the papers in his hand. He shouted, "Quiet down, focus on the meeting, no idle chatter during the meeting."

Shi Jin stopped his phone movements, as if realizing he had said too much. He frowned and glanced at Meng Qing, then turned to the side, lowered his head, and continued playing with his phone. Meng Qing glanced at Zhang Zhuoyuan, who clearly tried to interrupt Shi Jin from speaking.

The word "po" that Shi Jin uttered kept spinning in Meng Qing's mind. He turned his head and looked at Qi Yun.

Qi Yun understood and made a gesture as if he was making a phone call.

The morning meeting ended smoothly. After lunch, Meng Qing and Qi Yun had a phone call.
