Chapter 131 - Longevity Noodles Part 1

In the car, Li Jiuzheng said something that made Shi Jin feel very familiar: "This is a car I borrowed from my second senior brother."

Shi Jin replied, "...Mm." Does your second senior brother know that he has so many cars?

The car continued on in silence.

After fifteen minutes, the car stopped in a small community affiliated with a medical college in the southern part of the university town. Shi Jin was confused and asked, "Aren't we going to eat?"

Li Jiuzheng replied, "Yes, we're going to my place to eat. I'll make you some longevity noodles." He got out of the car first and magically pulled out two bags of ingredients from the trunk.

Shi Jin followed and was stunned for a moment before asking, "You can cook?"

Li Jiuzheng answered seriously, "A little bit." He was so serious that it seemed a bit stiff. Shi Jin fell silent, pretending not to know that the culinary idiot in the original owner's memory was actually Li Jiuzheng. He walked up and took the shopping bag from his hand.

"I can do it myself..." Li Jiuzheng reached out to take the bag back.

Shi Jin avoided his hand and said, "You have both hands full, how will you open the door later? Let's go. If you want to cook for yourself, the lunch break time will be a bit tight. We need to hurry."

Li Jiuzheng withdrew his hand and looked at Shi Jin's natural and gentle demeanor as he spoke. He suddenly narrowed his eyes and smiled, leaning in close to Shi Jin's side.

Shi Jin's hair stood on end, and he barely suppressed the urge to step back, asking, "What's wrong?"

"You're so considerate, Xiao Jin," praised Li Jiuzheng, leaning his head against Xiao Jin's shoulder and giving him a playful bump. Without giving him a chance to push him away, Li Jiuzheng immediately walked away with light steps towards the residential building ahead, calling out, "Come on, our home is on the top floor with a great view."

Shi Jin couldn't keep up with Li Jiuzheng's sudden change in mood and train of thought. He rubbed his bumped shoulder and followed along.

The hospital-affiliated community was not very large, with only two buildings. Perhaps because most residents were at work, the community looked a bit deserted. Li Jiuzheng led Shi Jin all the way inside, pressed the button for the top floor in the elevator, and openly stared at Shi Jin through the elevator doors.

Shi Jin couldn't pretend to be blind and asked, "What's going on?"

Li Jiuzheng smiled and replied, "I just think Xiao Jin looks really good."

Shi Jin conceded in his heart and politely returned the compliment, "I think Fifth Brother looks even better."

"Really?" Li Jiuzheng touched his own face and said seriously, "But I don't like my appearance very much."

Shi Jin remembered the words Li Jiuzheng had said at his mother's grave, and noticed the emotions in Li Jiuzheng's eyes sink as he spoke. He furrowed his brows and playfully knocked Li Jiuzheng's head, saying, "Whether you like it or not is your business, and whether I like it or not is mine. You can't control everyone's taste."

Li Jiuzheng had never been knocked on the head like this before and was stunned for a few seconds. He then foolishly pressed his own head with his hand and turned to look at Shi Jin.

"Fifth Brother, the elevator has arrived," Shi Jin pointed to the slowly opening elevator door. As Li Jiuzheng regained his senses, he took a few silly steps out of the elevator and made a gesture of invitation towards Shi Jin.

He said in a trance-like state, "Please, come in. Our home is Number 3602. Don't forget..."

Shi Jin followed along and found the door to Number 3602. He took a step ahead and stopped at the door, looking at Li Jiuzheng.

Li Jiuzheng was still standing by the elevator, staring at him with a bewildered expression. He seemed unable to process the scene before him. The elevator doors closed with a soft sound, startling him back to reality. His vacant gaze slowly regained its luster, and he smiled before quickly walking over to Shi Jin.

As he fumbled for his keys to open the door, he said, "Xiao Jin, we're home. I'll make you some longevity noodles to eat."

Shi Jin looked at his slightly trembling hands and slightly reddened ears, sighed in his heart, and reached out to take the key that he couldn't insert into the lock, helping him open the door.

As the door opened, warm air rushed out through the crack, revealing a cozy and comfortable foyer and living room behind the door.

This time, Shi Jin was stunned. In the original owner's memory, Li Jiuzheng was someone who didn't care much about his living environment, living wherever he pleased, and had a strong preference for cool colors, instinctively rejecting warm styles. His office in Rong City was decorated in a depressing manner, with black, white, and gray tones, as cold as a coffin, and was one of the original owner's most terrifying nightmares.

But this house exudes warmth and comfort everywhere, from the light gray short-haired carpet to the soft and spacious fabric sofa, from the cartoon-shaped doormat to the wooden furniture, from the sunflower abstract painting hanging on the wall to the beige curtains. There is really no trace of cool colors, everything is warm, even the edges of the furniture are polished into rounded arcs, without any sharpness.

This doesn't seem like the kind of house that Li Jiuzheng would live in. No one in the Shi family would decorate their house like this.

However, Shi Jin doesn't dislike this decorating style. To be precise, he kind of likes the sofa that looks very comfortable to lie on.

While Shi Jin was looking around the house, Li Jiuzheng was also sizing him up. It was easy to read the expression on Shi Jin's face - the surprise and slight liking in his eyes were evident. Following his gaze, Li Jiuzheng looked at the new sofa and slowly relaxed his tense nerves.

He pursed his lips and smiled, stepping into the room before Shi Jin. He bent down and took out a pair of plush slippers from the shoe cabinet, placing them in front of Shi Jin and saying, "Come in, it's cold outside."

Shi Jin snapped out of his daze, realizing that his staring at the sofa was a bit too obvious. He coughed awkwardly and stepped into the room, closing the door behind him and handing the key to Li Jiuzheng.

"I'll return this key," said Shi Jin, but instead of taking the key, Li Jiuzheng sidestepped and took the shopping bag from the other's hand. "I'll go get you something to drink. You can sit in the living room for a while." With that, he casually kicked off his shoes, put on a pair of fluffy slippers identical to the ones Shi Jin was wearing, and headed to the kitchen with the bag in hand.

Shi Jin watched him leave, looked at the key in his hand, and frowned hesitantly for a moment before finally putting the key in his pocket.

He had a feeling that if he didn't take the key, he would definitely hear the sound of a breaking glass heart again...

After changing his shoes, he stepped into the living room with a hint of curiosity, taking a quick look around before sitting down on the sofa with a reserved air. He felt the softness of the cushions and was satisfied as he took off his scarf and coat. He picked up a magazine from the coffee table, one that someone had left behind after not finishing it, and flipped through it casually.

A bunch of incomprehensible foreign language and anatomical diagrams appeared before his eyes, causing his hand to pause in flipping through the pages. With a sense of awe as a mediocre student who had accidentally stumbled into the world of the academic elite, he silently put the magazine back.

Maybe he should just pass the time by playing on his phone. He lowered his head to feel for his phone in his pocket.

"Xiao Jin, do you want juice or milk?" Li Jiuzheng poked his head out from the kitchen, holding an apron as if he was about to put it on.

As soon as the image of Li Jiuzheng in a white coat holding a surgical knife flashed through his mind, Shi Jin couldn't help but tremble. He put down the tray and stood up, saying, "Just give me the juice, I'll do it myself."

He didn't want to risk someone drugging his drink. It wasn't entirely his fault for being so nervous, the psychological trauma left by the terrifying doctor Li Jiuzheng on the original owner was just too heavy. It made him subconsciously afraid of this fifth brother.

Li Jiuzheng seemed to instantly understand the deeper meaning behind his words. The smile on his face faded and his voice lowered as he said, "Alright then, you can do it yourself. The juice is in the fridge."

Shi Jin: "......" Broke again, it's broken again.

......

The two brothers stood side by side in the kitchen, one pouring juice into a cup and the other wrestling with a ball of dough.

As Shi Jin caught sight of Li Jiuzheng's precise movements as he kneaded the dough, a storm of surprise brewed in his heart. "You can actually cook?" he asked.

Li Jiuzheng glanced at him sideways, lips pursed tightly as he continued to knead the dough.

This reaction...

"Are you angry?" Shi Jin asked, taking the initiative.

"No, I'm not angry with you," Li Jiuzheng replied.

What a liar, he was clearly holding back his anger.

The current Li Jiuzheng is different from the Li Jiuzheng in the original owner's memory. He doesn't display the icy and terrifying demeanor from his last memory, nor the initial memory of being reserved and difficult to approach. He also doesn't exhibit the madness, pain, and murderous intent from his memory.

Instead, he is proactive, loves to laugh, sensitive, and easy to understand, appearing like an ordinary person. Faced with this Li Jiuzheng, he inexplicably feels unable to be cold or speak harshly.

Shi Jin said, "These noodles seem to be made freshly beforehand. Did you wake up early to prepare for this lunch?"

Li Jiuzheng's kneading motion stiffened, and he suddenly turned to the gas stove, placing a small pot on it as he said, "I didn't wake up early."

It seems that he did wake up early after all. "What's in this pot?" Shi Jin ignored his awkwardness and continued to ask.

Li Jiuzheng tightened his grip on the pot and replied, "It's chicken soup, for cooking noodles... I made it myself, not bought."

Shi Jin was genuinely impressed that Li Jiuzheng knew to use chicken soup for cooking noodles. "You're really amazing," he praised. Being able to cook chicken soup was indeed impressive, especially since the original owner of Li Jiuzheng's memories was a cooking idiot who couldn't even cook instant noodles.

Li Jiuzheng didn't respond, but Shi Jin noticed that his back straightened slightly, looking very happy after being praised.

Was this person really the head of the hospital, a young and talented doctor? He felt more like a young and naive student than Li Jiuzheng. There was a subtle sense of division in Shi Jin's mind. The Five Brother he remembered was like a ghost, cold and terrifying. The Five Brother beside him now was easy to understand but clumsy, like two different people. Could a person really be so different?

"Let's have hot pot for lunch," Li Jiuzheng suddenly spoke up, kneading the dough again. His voice was a little soft, "The time is too short, I only learned how to make longevity noodles, so let's have hot pot for lunch... Next time, I'll make a real feast for you."

Shi Jin was stunned, turning to carefully examine the shopping bag on the table. Inside were indeed all the ingredients commonly used for hot pot. The subtle sense of division in his heart suddenly dissipated a bit - it seemed that Li Jiuzheng was still Li Jiuzheng, and it was really difficult for him to cook.

Despite being a cooking idiot, he had somehow learned to make chicken soup and knead dough. It was true that making longevity noodles was as simple as using some instant noodles and boiling them in water, so why bother going to such lengths? And what did he mean by saying that time was too short? Was Li Jiuzheng learning to make longevity noodles recently?
