After Our Divorce, I Still Wore Your Jacket

Chapter 54 - Chapter 54

The "Wind Wanderer" has been released for a month, with a total box office of over 700 million. The results are not bad, better than expected. There is not much competition in the recent movie market, no foreign hero movies, and no comedy that can attract a lot of money.

The investment in the film is not too exaggerated in terms of salaries, and there are many newcomers. The money is generally spent on scenery and props. Overall, they are making money and not losing money for the investors. For the crew, this is considered a success.

"The Wind Wanderer" has received many good reviews and there is not much to criticize. Some film critics say that the director's style is too restrained and lacks expression. This is a matter of personal opinion and there is no need to argue about it. If you think it's good, then it's good. If you thinks it's not good, then that's your opinion.

The movie was shot with ease, as there were hardly any issues on set besides filming. However, the conditions were truly harsh and challenging for the crew.

After the movie was released, Director Xin arranged a celebratory banquet for the main cast and crew, as well as a few important actors. Since they were all from different cities, it was possible that Fang Shaoyi might not attend, but his relationship with Director Xin made it a must for him to be there.

Coincidentally, Yuan Ye's new book was also being released, with book signings in several major cities across the country, and the two happened to be going to the same place.

Yuan Ye proactively booked their tickets, it was time for him to demonstrate his enthusiasm. When Ji Xiaotao asked if he should come along, Yuan Ye declined, saying, "No need, you have your own things to do, Tao-laoshi."

"You come along," said Fang Shaoyi to Ji Xiaotao before he could even speak.

Yuan Ye looked at Fang Shaoyi, thinking he was being deliberately difficult and showing off his arrogance again. But whether Ji Xiaotao followed or not, Yuan Ye didn't really care. In the end, the three of them went together, and Ji Xiaotao had to buy his own ticket.

Actually, Fang Shaoyi asked Ji Xiaotao to follow mainly because he wanted him to stick with Yuan Ye. Yuan Ye always went out alone, and although the publishing company would arrange for someone to accompany him for book signings and events, Fang Shaoyi was still a bit worried.

Yuan Ye didn't really enjoy book signings and other similar events, but he had signed up for them when he signed the contract for this book. They had been working with the same publishing company for years and had a good partnership, so this time he agreed to do a few events as a personal favor.

As both an assistant and a bodyguard, Ji Xiaotao had his mother worried sick. After the event, Yuan Ye and his work partner went out to eat. Fang Shaoyi called Ji Xiaotao and asked, "Is it over?"

Ji Xiaotao whispered, "It's done, they're eating now."

Fang Shaoyi asked, "Are you with them?"

Ji Xiaotao nodded and said, "Yes."

"Then make sure he doesn't drink too much. If he does, call me," Fang Shaoyi said.

"Okay, got it!" Ji Xiaotao promised. After hanging up, he thought to himself, 'Why can't he just call him directly? What's the point of making me relay the message?'

Fang Shaoyi and Director Xin couldn't possibly attend a celebration banquet without drinking. After all, who doesn't drink at such occasions? As the director and Fang Shaoyi had a close uncle-nephew relationship, there was no need to worry about drinking too much. How could Fang Shaoyi not drink excessively? He had thought of a good excuse beforehand, planning to say that he couldn't handle alcohol and push it away. But in the end, he couldn't refuse.

As a result, Yuan Ye didn't drink a single sip, while Fang Shaoyi got drunk instead. After the celebration, Ji Xiaotao called and asked if Fang Shaoyi needed a ride, but he declined, telling them to rest instead.

His voice sounded a bit hoarse, and after hanging up, Ji Xiaotao turned to Yuan Ye and said, "We're in trouble. He's had too much."

Yuan Ye thought for a moment and said, "You go rest, I'll go over."

Ji Xiaotao was very self-aware and went back, while Yuan Ye headed to the hotel by taxi. When he arrived, the atmosphere in the private room was good, and Yuan Ye didn't enter and only waited at the door. If he went in, he would also have to drink, and if they both got drunk then how would they go back? It was better if he hid here.

When they ended their meal, Yuan Ye seemed to have just arrived. The director saw him and Yuan Ye quickly greeted him with a smile, asking, "Are you guys done already? Did I come late?"

The director smiled and asked, "Little Yuan is here? Then why don't we do another round?"

"No need," Yuan Ye shook his head, "I came to pick him up."

The director turned around and looked at Fang Shaoyi, patted Yuan Ye's shoulder, and talked to him for a few words before leaving. The crew walked ahead, and Yuan Ye approached Fang Shaoyi and asked him in a low voice, "How much did you drink?"

Fang Shaoyi's eyes were not as clear as before, he had definitely been drinking, but his walking and demeanor didn't show any difference. He didn't answer, just shook his head.

Yuan Ye secretly held his hand and walked beside Fang Shaoyi, supporting him. All the leaders had someone to pick them up, and if not, the hotel would send them. Yuan Ye didn't need to worry about that. Public figures didn't have the habit of talking outside, everything that needed to be said was said at the dinner table. Once they left, a simple goodbye was enough, no need for anything else.

They didn't let the hotel car take them, Yuan Ye hailed a taxi and gave the driver their address. The driver was a middle-aged man who didn't know them, and the ride was quiet.

Fang Shaoyi let out a sigh of relief and slumped back in his seat,     breathing heavily and reeking of alcohol. He looked like a drunkard. The driver glanced back a few times and cautiously said to Yuan Ye, "Don't let him vomit in the car..."

"Don't worry, I won't," Yuan Ye replied.

It had been a long time since Fang Shaoyi had drunk so much, and even longer since Yuan Ye had seen him like this. When he got drunk, Fang Shaoyi was usually quiet and didn't cause any trouble. He might just go straight to sleep when he got home. With his eyes closed, he reached out his hand and Yuan Ye naturally placed his own hand in Fang Shaoyi's grasp.

Fang Shaoyi held onto his hand and slept the whole way. Yuan Ye looked at their hands a few times and Fang Shaoyi's peaceful sleeping face, thinking to himself how well-behaved he was.

After returning to the room, Fang Shaoyi was feeling a bit more sober. He took off his clothes and even took a shower. He didn't make a fuss and just did whatever Yuan Ye asked him to do. After Yuan Ye finished all his tasks, he took a shower and when he emerged, Fang Shaoyi was lying quietly in bed, sleeping soundly.

Yuan Ye placed a bottle of water by his bedside, afraid that Fang Shaoyi would wake up thirsty. Suddenly, Fang Shaoyi spoke up, mumbling and asking him, "Are you still not sleeping?"

"Coming," Yuan Ye glanced at him and replied, "I'm coming."

Actually, Fang Shaoyi wasn't really asleep yet. After returning to the room, he wasn't as tired as before. Yuan Ye was just dragging his feet and not coming to bed, so Fang Shaoyi had to urge him to sleep.

Under the influence of alcohol, his usual cool demeanor disappeared, and he couldn't maintain his intentional attitude. He was surrounded by someone he didn't need to be wary of, and he let down all his guard.

Yuan Ye patted his back like a child and whispered, "Sleep tight, my baby."

Fang Shaoyi furrowed his brow and suddenly blurted out, "Why is your heart so cruel?"

Yuan Ye was first stunned, then laughed and asked him in a low voice, "Where did that come from?"

Fang Shaoyi still frowned and told him to "shut up."

Yuan Ye blinked silently, then reached out and lightly tapped Fang Shaoyi's forehead, laughing softly and saying, "You're the one who's truly cruel."

Fang Shaoyi dodged his hand and said, "You deserve it."

"Yes, I deserve it," Yuan Ye patted him again. "I deserve it, don't frown."

Fang Shaoyi quieted down and stopped talking, but Yuan Ye took the initiative to speak again. He touched Fang Shaoyi's chin and asked, "Why don't you want to act anymore?"

Fang Shaoyi didn't answer, so Yuan Ye said again, "Don't you believe that I can take care of myself?"

"I believe you," Fang Shaoyi moved forward a bit and buried his face in Yuan Ye's neck. He kissed his collarbone and said in a muffled voice, "I believe you...that's why I'm not willing to let you."

Yuan Ye's heart felt a little sour. He grabbed Fang Shaoyi's hair, turned off the light, and gently massaged his scalp. It felt very comfortable, and Fang Shaoyi soon fell asleep.

After his book signing event for this location, there were still several other places to go. Ji Xiaotao followed Yuan Ye back and forth, which he had done before as a celebrity assistant and occasional writer's assistant. By the time Yuan Ye finished his busy schedule, it was already December, and Christmas was just a few days away.

Yuan Ye had to find time to work on the script with Feng Leizi and the others in between his travelling. He had already submitted three drafts, and he dreaded the thought of them saying, "Why don't you come over and we can talk face to face?"

Whenever they talked face to face, it never ended well. They would talk all night long, and the last time they talked for ten hours straight. Yuan Ye was so tired that he could barely keep his eyes open, but the director's eyes were still bright and he even asked him to have a couple more cups of coffee.

The movie is called "Whisper", a period drama set in the old times. The male lead is a mute, and his younger brother is also partially mute. The younger brother has a significant role and plays a character who is pure and full of vitality. When discussing the younger brother, Feng Leizi casually mentioned a few actors, but the director did not respond.

Then, Yuan Ye had an idea and said, "I actually have a recommendation that fits perfectly."

In fact, Yuan Ye had more than one recommendation. He recommended two people, one of whom is Yang Siran, who had previously acted alongside Fang Shaoyi. Yuan Ye had seen him act before and thought he was very talented. The other recommendation was Cheng Xun, who had a fitting image, but Yuan Ye wasn't sure about his acting skills since he hadn't seen him act much.

However, Yuan Ye was a fan of Cheng Xun and Chi Xing, the two young actors, so recommending him was somewhat of a personal preference. He might recommend them, but it was no guarantee. He had to send their materials to the director for review, for the director to take a look. When Yuan Ye mentioned it, he didn't take it too seriously. After all, this role was important and required careful consideration.

However, Yuan Ye still told Cheng Xun to organize the materials and send them to the director when he had time. Chi Xing was standing next to him and said that Yuan Ye was too biased.

Yuan Ye laughed on the phone and said, "You look too cheerful, you don't have that melancholic temperament."

Yuan Ye hadn't seen Yang Siran in a long time, but because of this matter Yuan Ye asked about him. When Yuan Ye asked, Ji Xiaotao looked helpless and said, "I think he's done for."

"What happened?" Yuan Ye raised his eyebrows. "Isn't the company trying to promote him?"

"I don't know what was going through his head. At the time, we couldn't tell he was so stubborn on set," said Ji Xiaotao. "He can't get along with his agent, but his attitude and temper is good. He just won't do what he was asked to do."

"Why is there such a problem?" Yang Siran was a good kid on set, and pretty well-behaved. Although he had a scandal with Fang Shaoyi, he wasn't the type of young person who was particularly scheming. At the time, he quietly helped Fang Shaoyi vent his frustrations, and Yuan Ye actually wanted him to develop well.

Ji Xiaotao sighed and said, "Brother Geng never spoils anyone. Except for my brother, there's no actor in the company who is so uncooperative. It's been a few months now, and I think Brother Geng is going to give up."

Yuan Ye said, "I have a character in the script I'm working on that would be perfect. Let the company submit his materials and see if they're interested. If we don't give it a shot, we'll never know."

"That's a long shot," Ji Xiaotao replied. "Brother Geng hasn't mentioned him at all in the company. He doesn't bring him up in meetings either. I think he's done with him."
