After Our Divorce, I Still Wore Your Jacket

After Our Divorce, I Still Wore Your Jacket

Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Over the years, Yuan Ye had never relied on his looks to get by, so he had never paid much attention to this aspect. In fact, he was the epitome of a rough and tough guy, always wearing simple clothes like jeans, sweatpants, T-shirts, and hoodies. He wouldn't even touch a dress shirt for formal occasions.

But to his surprise, after the show aired, Yuan Ye gained a group of fans who were attracted to his appearance.

Many young girls loved his type, and only those with a pretty face and a short buzz cut could pull it off. With a slight tilt of his thin eyelids and a hint of disdain and mockery in the corner of his mouth, he exuded a bad boy vibe, or rather, a bad uncle vibe. Others couldn't quite replicate the wild and rugged look of this bald-headed uncle, nor could they match his piercing gaze that seemed to see through everything.

They just weren't sharp enough, so they weren't as alluring.

In fact, Yuan Ye is just lazy. His hairstyle hasn't changed in years, not because he's trying to be cool or anything, but because he's been sporting the same look since he was five or six years old and has just gotten used to it.

When he washes his face every day, he just splashes some water on his hair and that's it. He doesn't bother with styling or even using a hair dryer. It's just easy and comfortable.

But being a fan of Yuan Ye is quite painful. Outside of the show, it's impossible to catch a glimpse of him. He doesn't do any endorsements or advertisements, and his Weibo account is only used for basic promotion. Other celebrities in the same position would be taking airport photos with fans, posting daily life updates, and giving their followers something to look at.

But Yuan Ye is completely elusive, and forget about trying to meet him at the airport. It's just not going to happen. The new fans had nowhere to go, so they started commenting under the Weibo post: "Do we have any organized groups? Big brothers, please take me with you! I can do anything, I'm a professional level 100, 555555*."

*T/N: 555555 is pronounced as 'wu', and is slang for a crying sound.

The old fans replied below: "There are no organized groups, and even if there were, they would all be grown in the wild. The handful of us are all book fans. Just relax here and get used to it."

Some old fans even chatted below, saying that they were like an freshwater had entered their old river, becoming more lively.

After the show was recorded, Yuan Ye disappeared completely. Fans could only watch the show and the behind-the-scenes footage online. Many interviews were offered to him, but he declined them all. He didn't want to say too much and make mistakes, and he didn't like talking about himself.

When he wanted to say something, he wrote it in his books. He liked to express himself through writing, not speaking. Now even Ji Xiaotao sometimes can't find him, it takes a long time for him to reply to a message.

After talking with the station, Geng Jinwei found out that the program group doesn't have any new tricks for now. Actually, it was all just small pranks to increase the show's popularity, and Director Lin had some grievances in his heart, so he occasionally caused trouble. He had targeted Yuan Ye knowing he wouldn't say much. He wouldn't do anything more, and he wouldn't even dare to mention the divorce.

If this matter were to be exposed, it would not benefit the program group in the slightest, and if they have no bottom line, who would want to work with them in the future?

It took almost a week for Fang Shaoyi to finish filming the final scene, which was also the ending of the movie. The director and the screenwriter couldn't agree on the fate of Fang Shaoyi's character. The director wanted him to live, while the screenwriter wanted him to die in battle.

As a result, the previous scenes were filmed along two different storylines with subtle differences. For this final scene, they had to shoot it from different angles and compare them during editing to decide on the final outcome.

The movie is called "Wind Wanderer" and it tells the story of half the life of a jianghu hero. When he was young, he traveled the world with his sword, but later got involved in the conflicts of the jianghu and lost one eye over a cup of tea.

Many years later, as war breaks out, the jianghu is no longer what it used to be. Personal grudges and national hatreds intertwine, and he was faced with choices: to live or to die, to choose the jianghu or the people?

The final scene was the climax of the entire movie. Hundreds of extras were on set every day, and it took nearly three hours for Fang Shaoyi to apply his final makeup as a wounded character. With so many extras, it was difficult to control the scene, and even the explosion of the city wall failed once, taking at least three days to repair.

Director Xin personally came down to direct and command the scene with a megaphone, but his voice was hoarse. The artificial rain continued to pour down on them. Fang Shaoyi's makeup had to be made very sticky and solid to prevent it from washing off.

After the scene, it took him over an hour to remove his makeup and take a shower. This scene was too difficult to shoot, and the pressure was high for the props and explosion teams. If they didn't control the timing properly, they would have to redo the scene again.

The director asked the cinematographer, "It's already three o'clock. Can we finish one more take before it gets dark?"

The photography director shook his head and said, "It's no good after 4 o'clock. It takes at least 40 minutes for all the machines to start up, and there's not enough time."

Director Xin frowned deeply, but there was nothing he could do. Filming was like this, sometimes smooth, sometimes not, and they had to endure it all. The director said, "We're done for today. Everyone go back and rest well. Let's try again tomorrow."

Ji Xiaotao was waiting on the side, holding a coat. As soon as the director said they were done, he went over to help Fang Shaoyi put on his coat. His clothes were completely wet and he was already freezing.

Fang Shaoyi waved his hand and said it was unnecessary.

Ji Xiaotao said, "I think if they blow up the city wall one more time, it'll be ruined again. We'll have to wait another three days for it."

Fang Shaoyi took off his costume and went back to the makeup room shirtless. The props and blood on his clothes had dried up and couldn't be used again tomorrow. They had to use new ones every day. The team had made over ten sets of costumes and props, and it took two days to wear them out to look old. Nobody knew when they would finish shooting, and they had to keep making them.

Several makeup assistants had to remove Fang Shaoyi's makeup before he could leave. When they removed the layers of blood and makeup from his face, it felt like sandpaper rubbing against his skin, which was very uncomfortable and damaging to his skin. The assistants were careful not to use too much force and gently rubbed his face.

Fang Shaoyi sat up straight, maintaining good posture. There was someone rubbing on his face, and another squatting and rubbing his legs below, with several water basins on the ground. The process of putting on and taking off makeup took five hours a day, which was quite exhausting.

Fang Shaoyi's voice was slightly hoarse as he said to them, "It's okay to rub harder, you'll finish work earlier if you finish removing the makeup earlier."

One of the girls rubbing his face whispered, "I dare not rub too much, it's too damaging to the skin if I do it like this every day. Fang-laoshi, please take care of it when you go back too."

Fang Shaoyi closed her eyes and responded with a soft "Mm," waiting for them to finish removing his makeup.

Ji Xiaotao brought a small heater over to shine at Fang Shaoyi. There was no makeup room on the outdoor set, only tents that were the same temperature as outside, damp and cold.

Fang Shaoyi was only wearing shorts, with the rest of his body exposed. It was not good for anyone to go through this kind of ordeal every day.

Lately, Ji Xiaotao had been quiet. He knew that Fang Shaoyi was tired and didn't want to disturb his rest. But he couldn't resist taking a photo of Fang Shaoyi with his eyes closed, removing his makeup. After some hesitation, he decided to send it to Yuan Ye.

Fang Shaoyi opened his eyes and looked at him, whispering, "Don't post it on Weibo."

Ji Xiaotao nodded and replied, "I won't post it on Weibo, I sent it to Brother Ye."

Fang Shaoyi frowned at him and said, "You're messing around."

"I'm not messing around, I feel upset," Ji Xiaotao whispered.

Recently, Yuan Ye has been in contact with him quite a bit, unlike the year before the program when they rarely spoke. Ji Xiaotao couldn't quite figure out what was going on between them. If these two never spoke again, he didn't want to get involved in the middle.

However, after the program was filmed, Yuan Ye and him have been in constant contact. Yuan Ye's attitude hasn't been cold either, and they even joke around with each other. Ji Xiaotao feels like there might be a turning point.

Then, Fang Shaoyi said to him, "Take it back."

Ji Xiaotao tried to and said, "It's too late."

Fang Shaoyi didn't say anything else, just frowned and closed his eyes.

When Yuan Ye replied to him, it was half an hour later. Fang Shaoyi still hadn't finished, but he was almost done. He sat there with his eyes closed, looking like he was asleep.

Yuan Ye asked, "What kind of movie is it?"

"Last scene, still not done after a week," Ji Xiaotao replied.

Yuan Ye: "Where's the makeup being done."

Ji Xiaotao: "In the tent."

After a few seconds, Yuan Ye replied: "F*ck."

Ji Xiaotao sent him a picture of a small heater and said, "I did my best, but this is all I could come up with."

"Mm," Yuan Ye responded.

Ji Xiaotao didn't dare say more, afraid that Fang Shaoyi would disapprove. He didn't want to overdo it and ruin the effect. This was enough. Ji Xiaotao didn't reply anymore, unsure if what he did was right. He knew he shouldn't meddle in their relationship, but he was familiar with the two of them, so he took a chance.

Later, Yuan Ye sent another message: "Can't you guys go back and do it? Have the makeup assistant come to your room to remove it."

Ji Xiaotao quickly replied, "Brother Yi said it's not convenient. Plus, those things are made of flour and oil. We have to take a car to go back, with these on we can't back."

Fang Shaoyi opened his eyes at some point and asked, "What did you say."

Ji Xiaotao replied, "Brother Ye asked why we don't go back to remove it."

With many people around, Fang Shaoyi didn't say much and only told him, "Don't say nonsense."

"Okay, I didn't say anything else," Ji Xiaotao said.

The makeup assistant next to them looked up and smiled, whispering, "I also watched <In Time>. You and Yuan Ye-laoshi have a really good relationship. Is Yuan Ye Teacher not very easy to get along with?"

Fang Shaoyi replied, "No, he's pretty good."

That night, the director came to Fang Shaoyi's room and chatted with him for a while. Although Fang Shaoyi's contract had already expired, it was normal for filming to take longer than expected, and it was also a director he was familiar with, so it was nothing.

Besides, Fang Shaoyi had previously taken some time off to record a variety show, which caused some trouble for the crew even though they rushed to finish the scenes.

The director said to him, "You've worked hard. This scene is difficult to shoot."

Fang Shaoyi smiled and replied, "Everyone has worked hard. Good things come to those who struggle."

The director then asked him with a smile, "Will there be any issues with your schedule after this? Did Old Jiang give you a hard time? Should Uncle give him a call?"

Director Xin and Fang Shaoyi's father's relationship was like this. While he referred to him as 'Director' during filming, privately he called him "Uncle". Fang Shaoyi shook his head and said, "No, don't worry about it. Take your time with the shoot. Director Jiang won't rush you."

"If he does, just let me know and I'll talk to him," the director replied.

Fang Shaoyi nodded with a smile and chatted briefly with the director before seeing him off.

As soon as the director left, Ji Xiaotao jumped up from his chair and handed Fang Shaoyi his phone. "Bro! Brother Ye just called!"

Fang Shaoyi raised an eyebrow and looked down at his phone, which showed a missed call from Yuan Ye. The contact name was still saved as "Monkey", which now seemed a bit comical.

Fang Shaoyi put his phone aside and didn't plan on answering it. He figured Yuan Ye wouldn't call again. But to his surprise, the phone rang again after only ten minutes.

It was still "Monkey".

Fang Shaoyi was a bit surprised, but he pursed his lips and answered the call.
