"Uncle Cui?" He answered the call.
"Are you going to see Yan Hang today?" Cui Yi asked, "If you go, bring him some food."
"Oh." Chu Yi responded. Cui Yi probably didn't know that he and Yan Hang hadn't been in contact for nearly a week.
"His fever hasn't gone down," Cui Yi said, "Starting today, we stopped having the housekeeper cook for him. If you go, bring him some food. I won't be back tonight."
"What?" Chu Yi was startled. Yan Hang had a fever?
"Are you not awake?" Cui Yi asked.
"I'm awake," Chu Yi came back to his senses, "Got it, I'll go, go over now."
After hanging up, Zhou Chunyang asked him in a low voice, "What's wrong?"
"Yan Hang has a fever," Chu Yi said, "I have to go, go over."
"Oh," Zhou Chunyang glanced at the time, "Then you go. You're not coming back tonight, right?"
Chu Yi looked at him. This question suddenly became very difficult to answer.
Before, Zhou Chunyang wouldn't have asked this, but after the holiday ended, the school management became stricter. At night, the dorm manager would come to check. If he didn't come back, his dorm mates would have to cover for him.
"Probably, won't be back." Chu Yi said.
"Got it," Zhou Chunyang said, "Then take a taxi over."
Someone was knocking on the door.
Yan Hang heard it, but it wasn't until the knocking became more and more urgent and then disappeared that he came back to his senses and sat up from the bed.
They were knocking on his door.
At this time... the landlord?
When he stood up, he felt a bit dizzy, not knowing if it was because he had been in a daze for too long or because of the fever.
He walked to the door and looked out through the peephole.
There was a person outside, head lowered, pressing on his phone.
Although he couldn't see the face, just from seeing the whorl of hair on the head, he could tell it was Chu Yi.
Yan Hang opened the door in some surprise, "Why did you come over?"
Chu Yi suddenly looked up, "You have a fever?"
"Who told you?" Yan Hang was stunned.
"Uncle Cui." Chu Yi stared at him.
"Why did Old Cui tell you this?" Yan Hang looked at Chu Yi. He was still holding a large bag in his hand. "Come in."
Chu Yi entered the room. As he walked past him, Yan Hang could feel a chill.
"It's cold outside, right?" He asked.
"Not cold," Chu Yi put down the large bag, turned around rubbing his hands while looking at him, "Do you still have a fever?"
"Don't know, didn't take my temperature." Yan Hang said.
After rubbing his hands frantically for a while, Chu Yi very carefully raised his hand and felt Yan Hang's forehead, then tried his own forehead, "You're hotter than me."
"It's fine," Yan Hang sat down on the sofa, "What's all this stuff you brought?"
"Food," Chu Yi opened the large bag and took out several food containers from inside, "I just, bought it... Put it in a bowl, dish it out."
"Mm." Yan Hang responded.
Chu Yi took the pile of food containers into the kitchen.
Yan Hang leaned back on the sofa, able to see his busy figure in the kitchen.
Suddenly, his whole body felt light.
Just like how seeing a message from Chu Yi could make the corners of his mouth turn up when he was feeling down, that heavy, stifling feeling from the past few days was torn open by Chu Yi's arrival.
He felt like he could smell the fresh, chilly air coming in through the cracks of the window.
"What food did you buy?" Yan Hang asked.
"Twice-cooked pork," Chu Yi turned to look at him, and after saying it, seemed a bit hesitant, "Can you eat it?"
"I can, I'm in the nourishment stage now," Yan Hang said, "Don't stand on ceremony with hearty meats, just bring them out."
Chu Yi transferred the dishes from the containers into bowls and brought them out. Twice-cooked pork, fried pork chops, fish-flavored eggplant, steamed egg with meat, and finally a stir-fried cabbage, the only vegetable dish.
"...I can't eat this much." Although Yan Hang really craved meat, even if he was starving for ten days he wouldn't be able to finish this huge pile.
"I'm here too." Chu Yi said.
Yan Hang glanced at him and smiled.
These dishes were probably bought from a restaurant, not the kind casually stir-fried in a fast food place. Yan Hang ate a few bites and felt they were pretty good.
"You..." He wanted to tell Chu Yi to grab a drink, but as soon as he started speaking, Chu Yi's phone beeped.
Chu Yi took out his phone from his pocket, glanced at it, and put the phone down.
"You go..." he continued, but before finishing his sentence, the phone beeped again.
Chu Yi picked up the phone, glanced at it, and put it back down.
"You go get something to drink," Yan Hangfei said quickly.
"Mm." Chu Yi nodded, got up and went to the kitchen to open the fridge.
He had grabbed two bottles of iced tea but hadn't yet reached the table when the phone on the table rang again.
"Who the hell is that?" Yan Hang couldn't stand it anymore.
"Classmate." Chu Yi twisted open the iced tea and placed it by Yan Hang's hand, then picked up the phone and looked at it again.
"From your dorm? They're all in the dorm and still messaging each other?" Yan Hang asked.
"No," Chu Yi said, "from another class."
"Oh." Yan Hang looked at him. Chu Yi could even add friends and chat with classmates from other classes now?
The country bumpkin had made great progress in this regard.
Yan Hang didn't say anything else. He took a sip of iced tea and lowered his head to continue eating.
After just a few bites, the phone rang again.
Ah--
Yan Hang slammed his chopsticks on the table in annoyance. "Can you reply to them? It's endless, beep beep, beep beep, didi, didi, want me to sing you a song?"
"I'm not, not chatting." Chu Yi was startled by him.
"If you don't have time to chat, just tell them." Yan Hang said.
"I don't, don't know how, to say it." Chu Yi rubbed his nose.
Yan Hang was stunned for a moment, then realized. "Girls?"
"Mm," Chu Yi frowned, "Hu Biao gave, gave my number to those, those girls..."
"Those?" Yan Hang asked.
"Mm," Chu Yi sighed, "I don't, don't want to reply."
"...Oh," Yan Hang picked up his chopsticks again, "If you don't want to reply, just mute it. Isn't it annoying?"
"Oh." Chu Yi seemed to just realize and picked up his phone.
"Actually, if you don't want to chat, just block them." Yan Hang said.
"Huh?" Chu Yi was stunned.
