Chapter 56 - Chapter 55 Part 2

The caregiver was a tidy-looking man in his forties. Apparently he had been a caregiver for over ten years and was very familiar with all the hospital procedures and regulations, as well as being skilled in caring for patients.

But Chu Yi always felt a bit uncomfortable.

Especially when changing Yan Hang's clothes.

When the new hospital gown was brought, Yan Hang's IV drip had just finished. The caregiver said it was a good time to change clothes. Chu Yi was about to help sit Yan Hang up when the caregiver had already expertly pulled out a crank at the foot of the bed and cranked the bed up with a few swooshes.

Chu Yi was stunned. He had no idea the bed could do that.

Then came taking off the clothes and putting on new ones. He couldn't get a hand in at all as the caregiver finished it in a few moves, even wiping down Yan Hang's body while he was at it.

Compared to the caregiver, he felt like a useless person.

Changing the pants was even more unpleasant.

Chu Yi could only try hard to join the "lend a hand" activities to make the pants changing time a bit shorter.

"Ah," Yan Hang leaned against the bed and let out a breath after changing clothes, "The surgery site is quite far away, how come even the hair had to be shaved."

Chu Yi was stunned, not knowing how to respond.

Actually, this had been a lingering question in his heart ever since pulling down Yan Hang's pants, he just didn't have the nerve to ask.

"Surgeries are all like this, the disinfection area is quite large," the caregiver smiled, "No worries, it grows back quickly, it's just a bit prickly..."

"Damn," Yan Hang laughed and turned his head to look at Chu Yi, "Doggy."

"Ah," Chu Yi came back to his senses from the shock, "Huh?"

"Go back to pack, eat and sleep," Yan Hang said, "Come back tomorrow."

"Okay." Chu Yi responded and glanced at the caregiver again.

"Don't worry," the caregiver said, "Of all the patients I've cared for, none have been unsatisfied with me."

When Chu Yi walked out of the hospital, he suddenly felt a bit dazed, standing by the road not knowing which way to go.

A gust of cold wind blew by and he remembered, he had never been to this side of the hospital before. Yesterday he had followed the ambulance here, so he didn't know which way to go in the first place.

He looked left and right, wanting to find a bus stop to check the signs.

But just turning his head left and right, he suddenly felt dizzy and staggered, having to brace himself against a tree to steady himself.

This reaction made him a bit panicked, not because he might be quite ill, but afraid that if he was too sick to get up tomorrow, what would he do?

As a stingy person, he leaned against the tree and struggled intensely for a minute before walking to a taxi parked by the road and getting in.

When he arrived at the entrance of the neighborhood, Chu Yi felt he must really be a bit muddled from the fever. He had forgotten to ask what kind of cell phone Yan Hang wanted before buying one. After hesitating for a long time, he decided to take the initiative for once and buy Yan Hang a new model of the same brand and series as his original phone.

Yan Hang quite liked his own phone and praised it all day, saying it took great photos.

This was the first time in Chu Yi's life that he had entered a phone store.

It was also the first time he spent over four thousand yuan at once. And because he didn't take Yan Hang's card, he used his own money. After paying for the phone, he basically had no money left.

Clutching the small leather coin purse in his pocket, he felt a sense of interdependence.

When he opened the door to Yan Hang's house and smelled the familiar scent inside, Chu Yi's whole body relaxed.

But as soon as he relaxed, he truly felt that he might be quite ill.

Dizziness, cold sweat, feeling unsteady on his feet.

He quickly took out Yan Hang's little medicine box, rummaged through it, and found... a box of ibuprofen. Thanks to Grandma's long-term painkiller training, he knew this could reduce fever, so he took one.

Not even bothering to put away Yan Hang's clothes, he charged the phone, took a shower and got into bed, hugging Yan Hang's pillow and starting to sleep soundly.

He must have indeed been tired, as he felt he slept through day and night. When he woke up, his whole body was soaked in sweat.

The phone placed beside the pillow was flashing. He quickly grabbed it to take a look.

There were a few missed calls from an unknown number, as well as several missed calls and text messages from Cui Yi.

"Uncle Cui," he first returned Cui Yi's call, "I just slept, fell asleep."

"I guessed so," Cui Yi said. "Are you back? Still have a fever?"

"I'm back, and no, no fever." Chu Yi felt his own forehead, getting a handful of sweat.

"Keep sleeping, it's still early." Cui Yi said.

"Mm." Chu Yi responded, glancing at the time and realizing it was only 11 o'clock. He had thought he slept until the next day with that nap.

"It must be your younger brother calling back," the caregiver uncle walked to the bedside with the ringing phone. "You take it."

"Thanks," Yan Hang took the phone and answered, "Chu Yi?"

"I was sleeping, didn't hear it." Chu Yi's voice carried the nasal tone of just waking up.

"Tired, huh," Yan Hang chuckled. "Did you eat something?"

"...I ate." Chu Yi hesitated for a moment.

"What did you eat?" Yan Hang immediately asked.

"Food." This time Chu Yi answered very quickly.

"There's yogurt in the fridge," Yan Hang said. "If you don't feel like eating, just drink a can of yogurt."

"Oh," Chu Yi said. "I bought, bought you a phone, but don't, don't know if you like, it's... it's... wait, let me look..."

"I like it," Yan Hang said. "Even a basic phone is fine."

Chu Yi laughed, "Not a basic, basic phone, over four thousand."

"You bought it with your own money?" Yan Hang asked.

"Mm." Chu Yi responded.

"Then I won't pay you back." Yan Hang said.

"I'll post, post it under your Weibo," Chu Yi said. "Shocking! Washed-up mask-wearing food blogger, blogger did this, for a, a phone!"

Yan Hang covered the wound on his waist and laughed a few times, "That long string of words must have been hard for you."

"Not hard," Chu Yi said. "As long as you have perseverance, you can always finish saying it."

"Shut up." Yan Hang gritted his teeth to control his laughter.

The phone belonged to the caregiver uncle, so Yan Hang didn't chat with Chu Yi for too long. Besides, it was already very late for the hospital. The TV had been off for over an hour, and the patient in the next bed should also be asleep. He chatted randomly with Chu Yi for a bit before hanging up.

Hearing the uncle lying down on the small caregiver bed beside him, Yan Hang let out a soft sigh.

He probably wouldn't be able to sleep again tonight. His mind was quite occupied, and while his mood couldn't be described as low, it indeed wasn't very good either. Only when hearing Chu Yi's voice could he be slightly distracted.

As soon as the call ended, he instantly fell into gloom and extreme boredom.

It's not that he wasn't used to spacing out alone like this, but spacing out sleeplessly without being able to move was very uncomfortable.

He didn't fall asleep all night. Perhaps his IQ hadn't been cut in half after all, as his mind slowly started to become clearer.

In addition to more clearly feeling the discomfort of the wound and the soreness all over his body, he suddenly had a judgment about the person who had ambushed him.

This judgment even made his heartbeat speed up a bit.

Cui Yi had said that back then there was more than one person involved. If Old Ding was one of them, regardless of how he died, his accomplices might have noticed something.

That unsteady walking person, the age difference could roughly match. So let's assume he was that accomplice.

But an accomplice wouldn't merely do something to him just because he noticed or knew another accomplice had died, because even killing him would be meaningless for this person's predicament.

It could only be that this accomplice was forced into a corner with no other choice...

Forced by whom? Who would be threatened if he was injured?

Yan Hang slowly raised his hand and pinched the spot between his brows. He had never dared to think about his father's current situation - dead, or alive, where, doing what.

But now he suddenly had a guess.

Although everything was based on assumptions, he still couldn't control this sudden thought that came to him.

That old fox Yan Zhiyuan probably hadn't died.

When Chu Yi walked into the hospital room early in the morning carrying a travel bag, he could tell at a glance that Yan Hang hadn't slept last night. His complexion wasn't good, looking more fatigued than yesterday.

"...Where did you get that bag?" Yan Hang looked at him.

"Your closet." Chu Yi said.

"There are several travel bags in my closet," Yan Hang said. "Grabbing any of them would look better than this one."

"Is this one ugly?" Chu Yi looked at the bag in his hand. It was just an ordinary bright blue canvas bag, the most suitable size for the few things he needed to bring.

"It's not ugly." Yan Hang said.

"Here's your phone." Chu Yi took out the phone from the bag, and the caregiver uncle came over to put the bag in the cabinet beside them.

"Help me put in the SIM card." Yan Hang smiled.

While Chu Yi was fiddling with the phone, the door to the hospital room was pushed open, and a head poked in, glancing around before saying in a low voice, "Yan Hang?"

"Why are you here?" Yan Hang was stunned.

"Manager Tang said you were robbed," a girl walked in, holding a large bouquet of flowers, followed by several others. "We came to see you. Sister Wang drove us here."

Chu Yi recognized that these were Yan Hang's colleagues who had sung at the Mid-Autumn Festival. He stepped aside, making room by the bedside.

"What happened?" An older sister placed a gift bag on the bedside table. "They said you had a shady past, but now the rumors can't continue. Getting robbed and ending up in the hospital... Are you seriously injured?"

"It's nothing." Yan Hang smiled.

This must be Sister Wang, whom Chu Yi had heard Yan Hang mention before. She was the leader of another group and a very nice person.

"Is it really nothing or are you just saying that?" The girl holding the flowers seemed very familiar with Yan Hang and reached out to pat his face. "You look terrible."

Take your hand away!

Away!

Chu Yi's eyes widened. He had been leaning against the wall, but now he suddenly stood up straight.

For two days, apart from wiping his face, he hadn't touched Yan Hang's face at all! What was this girl doing?

Casually reaching out her hand!

It was as if Yan Hang heard his inner roar. His gaze suddenly passed through the crowd and swept over Chu Yi's face, smiling at him.

This smile was very gentle, especially gentle. All of Chu Yi's emotions instantly dissipated. He leaned back against the wall, feeling a little weak in the legs.
