Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

I missed you.

I really missed you.

Yan Hang, I missed you so much.

Every time he passed by the house where Yan Hang used to live, Chu Yi would always glance in that direction, but never crossed the street to walk by the door again.

Later, the house was rented out again to a family of three. Every time he passed by, he could see a very small child going back and forth in a baby walker by the door.

The presence of Yan Hang and Uncle Yan faded.

The harder it became to find traces of them, the more intensely he missed them.

He was afraid that if he thought about it a few minutes less one day, he would forget.

He missed Yan Hang terribly.

He was also afraid that he could only keep missing him like this.

Now, walking on the road together with Yan Hang for real, hearing Yan Hang's voice, being able to lightly bump into Yan Hang's arm with a slight sway, and even request pick-up artist magic tricks.

Only then did he slowly return to reality.

He found Yan Hang.

Yan Hang didn't leave, he was still here.

Yan Hang didn't call him a pervert, didn't avoid him, and didn't become distant with him because of what happened with his dad.

After putting his heart at ease, his longing turned into a pure, genuine missing without any other emotions mixed in.

But he had never said such mushy words before.

In his view, there were only two situations where one could say something like that - if Liang Jingru's "Courage" delivery arrived, or if it slipped out unintentionally.

It must have slipped out unintentionally for him.

He didn't know what he wanted to say before he opened his mouth.

After saying it, he was quite surprised.

Chu Yi, what nonsense did you just say?

Yan Hang smiled and just lightly patted him on the shoulder twice, not saying anything.

He felt that Yan Hang probably didn't know how to respond to those words.

The community Yan Hang lived in was quite high-end, with the security guards at the entrance standing very straight.

Chu Yi had seen this community on the map before, but the map only went up to the roadside at the entrance and couldn't go inside.

Now, following Yan Hang inside, it felt very magical, peaceful and familiar.

There were also many trees and flowers in the community, and quite a few people were taking a stroll along the paths at this time.

"The environment is really nice." Chu Yi said.

"Yeah, I'll take you to see a little friend in a bit." Yan Hang said.

"What little friend?" Chu Yi asked.

Little friend?

How little of a friend?

Yan Hang had lived at their place for a few months before and never even spoke to the neighbors. Now he knew the neighbor's kids?

They walked all the way to the mountainside at the very back of the community. Yan Hang stopped and pointed to a building next to them: "I live right here, at the very top."

"Oh." Chu Yi looked up but couldn't tell which window it was.

"Uncle Cui lives in that building," Yan Hang pointed to another building next to them and took out his phone, "I'll give him a call to come down and get the milk tea."

"Mm," Chu Yi nodded, not having forgotten the earlier topic, "What about the little friend?"

"Come," Yan Hang dialed the number while walking over to the flower bed on the side, "Milk tea delivery is here."

After hanging up, Yan Hang turned on the flashlight on his phone and shined it into the flower bed. Chu Yi followed him, not knowing what he was doing.

"Found it!" Yan Hang said softly, pulling him to his side and pointing to the spot illuminated by the light in the flower bed, "Over there, can you see it?"

What little friend is lying in the dirt of the flower bed!

Chu Yi was extremely shocked and quickly stared over.

After staring for about five seconds, something in the grass on the dirt moved. Chu Yi was startled: "It's a rat!"

And quite big!

He had known Yan Hang for a few months and missed him for a year, but never imagined Yan Hang liked big rats!

"Are you blind?" Yan Hang looked at him.

"Probably s-scared blind?" Chu Yi also looked at him.

"Take another look," Yan Hang said, "What is it?"

Chu Yi turned his head. The lump in the grass moved again. This time he could tell it wasn't a rat, but didn't know what it was. It was bigger than a rat.

"It's a hedgehog," Yan Hang said, "A little hedgehog."

"Ah!" Chu Yi was a bit surprised, "A hedgehog? You're raising it?"

"No," Yan Hang turned off the light on his phone, "Uncle Cui saw it last month by the main gate. There are a lot of kids over there, so he caught it and brought it to the mountainside. Now it lives in this area."

"The little friend you mentioned is it?" Chu Yi looked at him.

"Ah," Yan Hang smiled, "You thought it was a kid?"

"Yeah." Chu Yi started laughing.

"Where would I get to know kids," Yan Hang led him back to the bottom of the building, "I haven't even gotten a clear look at what my neighbor across the way looks like."

Cui Yi walked out from the building. When he saw Chu Yi, he paused: "Is this Chu Yi?"

"Yes," Yan Hang nodded and introduced Chu Yi, "This is Uncle Cui."

"Hello, Uncle Cui." Chu Yi greeted him.

"Didn't you say he was 1.4 meters tall?" Cui Yi sized up Chu Yi.

"1.4, meters?" Chu Yi turned to look at him.

"It's just a metaphor," Yan Hang sighed. He had indeed told Cui Yi that Chu Yi was very short, only about 1.4 meters, "It's to describe him...before..."

"Before he only came up to your waist." Cui Yi said.

"Ah..." Yan Hang helplessly turned his head away. He knew now, in the future when talking about someone behind their back, he couldn't be so casual.

"Are you staying at Yan Hang's place tonight?" Cui Yi asked Chu Yi.

"Mm." Chu Yi nodded.

"Then let's have breakfast together tomorrow. I should treat you to a meal now since you're Yan Hang's friend," Cui Yi said, "But he won't let me."

"T-thank you, Uncle Cui." Chu Yi said.

After getting the milk tea, Cui Yi went back into the building. Yan Hang led Chu Yi towards the building he lived in.

"1.4 meters d-doesn't only come up to your waist, right?" Chu Yi said from behind him, "How m-many meters tall are you, bro?"

"How are you still so talkative." Yan Hang was amused.

"Usually I'm not, this talkative," Chu Yi stood next to him and glanced at the elevator, "I've never ridden this kind of elevator before."

"Never ridden an elevator?" Yan Hang looked at him.

"I've ridden the kind you stand in." Chu Yi said.

"This kind isn't for lying down either," Yan Hang said as the elevator doors opened. He walked in, "You have to stand in this one too."

"I meant the kind with ste- ste- ste-" Chu Yi sighed, "Forget it."

Yan Hang looked at him with a smile.

"That... kind... of... escalator..." Chu Yi thought for a moment and said it again in a drawling voice.

"I know." Yan Hang said with a smile.

Yan Hang's house was a small apartment, very small, but well decorated, more upscale than the one they used to rent at their place before.

There was also a small balcony facing the mountain, which Chu Yi was a bit envious of.

His own dorm had eight people, and he didn't even get the top bunk closest to the window.

"You go wash first? You're all sweaty from running," Yan Hang opened the wardrobe, "I'll find you some clothes."

"Mm," Chu Yi looked at Yan Hang, "Are you working now?"

"Working," Yan Hang took out a set of his own sportswear, "At a hotel's western restaurant, it's pretty good, I originally wanted to try for the back kitchen, but now I might get promoted to team leader."

"Ah," Chu Yi suddenly got a bit excited, "That's awesome."

"But I want to go to the back kitchen," Yan Hang smiled and handed him the clothes, "You wear this set, now that you've grown, it won't be too big."

"Yeah, before when, I was 1.4m I only, reached your waist." Chu Yi said.

"Are you done?" Yan Hang clicked his tongue, "You were all pitiful when eating earlier, recovered so quickly?"

"Kids are all like this." Chu Yi smiled, hugging Yan Hang's clothes and preparing to go take a shower. He had been running around outside all day today, and the climate here was much more humid than back home. He really wanted to take a shower now.

"I'll find you some underwear." Yan Hang pulled open the drawer again, took out a box and opened it, taking out a pair of underwear from inside.

Chu Yi took one look and paused: "This..."

"Children's style," Yan Hang shook the red and white striped underwear in his hand, "How youthful."

"Do you have a m-middle-aged and elderly style?" Chu Yi asked.

"No." Yan Hang threw the underwear at him.

"Why did you buy this kind?" Chu Yi looked at the underwear.

"This box has solid colors and also striped ones, the exposed pair is black, so I bought it, but when I opened it at home, I found there were also two zebra print ones," Yan Hang said, "Go wash, zebra is still better than your red underwear right."

Yan Hang could still remember his red underwear, Chu Yi didn't know if he should feel touched or embarrassed. To be honest, he was still wearing red underwear today.

He hadn't spent much of the money he saved, only bought a few sets of clothes. For things like underwear, if there were no holes he couldn't bear to buy new ones.

The red underwear was bought at the vegetable market, three for ten yuan.

The quality was not bad.

This "quality was not bad" referred to not fading.

Many things bought at the vegetable market would fade, the face towel would scrape the face after a week of use, white clothes would disappear after being washed together with clothes from the vegetable market a few times...

Chu Yi stood in the bathroom, not knowing what he was thinking about, his thoughts wandering far.

He put the clothes on the rack and looked at the things in the bathroom.

They were all quite high-end, he couldn't tell what all those bottles and jars were, some didn't even have a single Chinese character on them.

Chu Yi sighed at how uncultured he was, then went over to look at each bottle closely.

"Chu Yi." Yan Hang suddenly knocked on the door twice.

"Ah?" Chu Yi was startled and covered his crotch with his hand before realizing he was still fully dressed.

He went over and opened the door.

"Shampoo, body wash." Yan Hang took out two bottles for him and put them on the sink.

"What are those?" Chu Yi pointed to the bottles on the shelf.

"They're all shampoo and body wash," Yan Hang said, "They weren't good to use so I just left them there."

"Being, rich is d-different huh?" Chu Yi said.

"Yeah," Yan Hang said, "Envious?"

"Envious." Chu Yi laughed.

Yan Hang always used things in a very rich way, and they were all things he had never seen before, like that bottle of enchanting fragrance he had been hiding and couldn't bear to spray.

Sometimes when he thought about it, he would feel unconfident. How could someone like Yan Hang, handsome, free-spirited, smart, good at English, with a pretty fashionable life... be friends with him.

A very uncultured country bumpkin, even though he practiced martial arts every day.

He took off his clothes and turned on the shower head.

The water temperature had already been adjusted. The weather wasn't cold yet, and the water temperature was slightly warm. As it slid over his body, he immediately felt all his pores open up.

Chu Yi leaned against the wall and buried himself under the spray from the shower head.

After rinsing for a while, he took some shampoo and poured out a bit. It had a very faint fragrance, the same shampoo as Brother Xiao Tian.

Then he picked up the body wash, getting it again.

Although getting the same products didn't really mean anything, he still felt happy.

After showering, Chu Yi took his washed clothes and walked out, wanting to ask where to hang them. He saw Yan Hang sitting on the bay window in the living room smoking.

He was probably lost in thought with the cigarette in his mouth. When Chu Yi came out he didn't turn around, likely not having heard him.

Chu Yi stood in place looking at him.

Yan Hang had his head tilted, facing the window. The red glow of the flashing neon lights outside shone on the side of his face, dancing, making Yan Hang look exceptionally still.

Chu Yi stood for a good two minutes without daring to make a sound.

"Done washing?" Yan Hang suddenly said.

"Ah!" Chu Yi was startled. He originally thought he was secretly observing, but the sudden reversal made him very embarrassed. He plopped down on the chair beside him.

"Why did you wash the clothes too?" Yan Hang turned his head to look at him, "Just throw them in the washing machine and wash them together."

"Used to it." Chu Yi stood up.

"Hang them on the balcony," Yan Hang put out his cigarette and jumped down from the bay window, reaching out to take his clothes, "I happen to have a bunch of clothes I haven't hung up."

"Oh." Chu Yi responded, turned and went back to the bathroom, took the previously washed clothes out of the washing machine and put them in the basin, then carried them out.

"The soul of a servant persists," Yan Hang sighed, "Go ahead."

Yan Hang probably washed a few days' worth of clothes together. There was a big pile, and adding Chu Yi's own, there were almost not enough hangers.

After hanging up the clothes and returning to the living room, Yan Hang went to take a shower.

Chu Yi stood for a while, wandered around the living room, then sat on the bay window and looked out.

Yan Hang's old habit had never changed, which was to sit on the windowsill and look out.

Outside there wasn't really much to see, just a cluster of tall buildings with the occasional light shining through the windows, and various lights on top of the buildings, some flashing, some not.

The window was open, and the air was noticeably damp. Chu Yi closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.

He liked this smell.

He liked this fashionable city and the people here.

Just as he was about to go out to the balcony to take another look, his phone rang.

He took it out, glanced at it, and saw it was his aunt.

He hesitated for a moment before answering the call: "A-auntie?"

"You're really something! Incredibly awesome! Extraordinarily impressive!" His aunt's voice came through. "All grown up now, eh? A real man!"

"I..." Chu Yi didn't know what to say.

"If I hadn't stopped by your house, I wouldn't have known you went so far away until the New Year, right?" His aunt's voice was quite loud.

"I... was a-afraid... you'd scold me," Chu Yi said softly.

He had come here to study, and basically only his immediate family and people at the boxing gym knew. He didn't dare tell his grandparents or aunt.

Although he had always wanted to leave, he was still afraid of being stopped, especially by those he felt close to - his grandparents and aunt. If any one of them had told him not to go so far, he might have hesitated.

"Scold you? Scold you? What could I scold you for? And you're still afraid I'd scold you, aren't you afraid I'll curse you out now?" His aunt sighed. "This child! Are you all settled in at school?"

"Mm," Chu Yi nodded. "Moved in, the school is p-pretty big, very nice."

"Did you buy everything you need? Paid all the fees?" His aunt asked.

"All... taken care of," Chu Yi said.

"He says everything is sorted out," his aunt seemed to turn her head to talk to his uncle, then turned back. "I'll transfer some money to you in a bit. You're on your own there, don't be too frugal."

"I have money," Chu Yi quickly said. "I found a j-job the past couple d-days."

"You do your job, it doesn't conflict," his aunt said. "I had already prepared a red envelope for you originally. I went to your house today to take you out shopping for some school supplies."

"Thank you A-Auntie," Chu Yi said softly.

When Yan Hang came out from his shower, Chu Yi was still staring at his phone screen, lost in thought over the 5,000 yuan his aunt had transferred to him.

"Wow," Yan Hang leaned over to take a look. "Moneybags, quite loaded huh?"

"It's from my au-aunt," Chu Yi said, a bit embarrassed.

"Don't rush to find work," Yan Hang said. "You just got to a new environment, take some time to adjust first."

"Oh," Chu Yi responded.

Yan Hang went into the bedroom. "Are you going to sleep?"

"I might..." Chu Yi followed him into the bedroom and answered honestly, "not be able to sleep. Too excited."

"Then let's sit here and chat for a bit." Yan Hang sat down on the floor beside the bed, leaning against it.

Chu Yi went over and sat down next to him.

The side of the bed directly faced the floor-to-ceiling window. Outside, the balcony had iron railings that didn't obstruct the view. Sitting like this and looking out, it was the same as standing on the balcony - you could see the tall buildings far in the distance.

"Do you usually look out like th-this?" Chu Yi asked.

"I used to look all the time," Yan Hang said. "Haven't had time lately."

"Busy?" Chu Yi glanced at him.

"Yeah," Yan Hang smiled. "Trying to get certified."

"What certification?" Chu Yi was very curious.

"Interpretation," Yan Hang said. "Uncle Cui wants me to get it. After all, I can't be a waiter forever."

"Ah!" Chu Yi had an indescribable feeling.

Interpretation - for a moment he couldn't even react to what that was. It was too far removed from him.

So far that after he exclaimed, he couldn't find any way to continue the conversation.

"I just looked up your school," Yan Hang said. "It's pretty good. The places the graduates go to work are all decent."

"I didn't even look it up," Chu Yi said, a bit embarrassed.

"You were probably too busy looking up Little Li's BBQ," Yan Hang laughed. "You really are..."

Chu Yi looked at him.

"Weren't you afraid I would have left already?" Yan Hang asked.

"Never thought about it." Chu Yi lowered his head, looking at the small stone on Yan Hang's ankle.

Yan Hang was wearing a pair of loose shorts, and the small stone could be seen at a glance. He smiled.

"The string is quite sturdy. I was worried it would break." Yan Hang pulled his leg back and flicked the small stone with his finger. "Do you still polish stones?"

"No," Chu Yi traced the small stone with his finger. "Haven't gone to find st-stones in a long time."

"I picked up a few downstairs," Yan Hang opened the drawer of the bedside table next to him and took out a small bag to hand to him. "Do you have time to make me a bracelet?"

"I have time," Chu Yi answered without thinking.

The stones Yan Hang picked were quite beautiful, all white with very faint patterns on them.

"You design it, see how to make it look good," Yan Hang said.

"Okay." Chu Yi nodded, then thought for a moment and asked hesitantly, "Did you bl-block me on WeChat?"

"I haven't used it for a long time. Besides you, there's no one else I need to contact on there. I changed my phone number too," Yan Hang took out his phone. "You sent me a message?"

"Yeah," Chu Yi nodded.

"What did you send me?" Yan Hang started downloading WeChat again.

Chu Yi didn't expect that Yan Hang had not only changed his phone and number, but also stopped using WeChat and even deleted it. He suddenly felt a rush of nervousness.

If he hadn't found Yan Hang this time, he might never have found him.

After downloading WeChat, Yan Hang got up, took an iron box from the bookshelf, and came back to sit down.

When he opened the box, Chu Yi quickly glanced inside and saw something familiar - that fountain pen.

"You still k-kept this pen?" Chu Yi suddenly felt like crying.

"Yeah," Yan Hang took out a SIM card from the box and swapped it into his phone. "But I don't use it, afraid of losing it."

"You didn't throw away the SIM card either?" Chu Yi asked.

"No, and I've been paying for it," Yan Hang turned on the phone.

"You're really rich," Chu Yi said softly.

"In case you tried to find me." Yan Hang smiled.

"Then, then you..." Chu Yi suddenly felt unable to control his emotions, his voice trembling.

Yan Hang turned to look at him.

Chu Yi tried hard to control himself, desperately swallowing his saliva, trying to suppress the strong sourness and swelling between his nose and forehead.

He had already cried once tonight and really didn't want to cry a second time.

It was too embarrassing.

He had come so far on his own to attend school, such a badass guy, crying twice in one night in front of people was simply a disgrace.

In the future, Yan Hang could not only tell people that Chu Yi was only 1.4 meters tall and reached his waist, but he could also say that he cried endlessly at 1.4 meters.

He was now 1.74 meters tall and had been practicing boxing for a year. This persona hadn't even been firmly established in front of Yan Hang before it collapsed.

His nose was so sour that his eyes were squinting.

"What's wrong?" Yan Hang must have already noticed his emotions. He reached back, pulled a tissue from the head of the bed, and put it in his hand.

"You say, in case I'll look, look for you," as soon as Chu Yi spoke, tears flowed out, "then you, without saying a-anything, just leave, don't even, reply to messages, you've even changed, changed your phone, leaving a number, what's the fucking, point!"

"Even if I look, look for you, it's fucking turned, off!" Chu Yi wiped his uncontrollable tears somewhat irritably, "Are you an idiot!"

Yan Hang didn't say anything, just looked at him.

After a while, he said softly, "You're awesome, mutt, you can even curse now? I really didn't fucking see that coming!"

"I'll fucking curse, if I want to, fucking curse!" Chu Yi said, "If you don't like it, suck it up."

"I like it," Yan Hang took another tissue and gently dabbed his face a couple of times, "I'll check right away to see what messages you sent me."

"Selfies." Chu Yi said with a crying tone.

Yan Hang hadn't even clicked on WeChat yet, but when he heard this, he couldn't help but laugh.

"What the fuck are you laughing at," Chu Yi said, "new hairstyle, self, selfies."

Yan Hang stopped laughing, reached out to cradle the back of his head, pulled him over, and pressed him against his shoulder.
